  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Sold my 2015 C300

ksoze, I started the poll thread about the vibration issue. With around 90 respondents to the poll, more than 25% have an unresolved vibration issue. I've test driven to different cars and both had a noticeable vibration problem that did not go away (which was supposed to go away as the tires warmed up after "flat spotting.") The first test drive lasted a bit over a half hour, the second test drive was for well over an hour. When I find one without a vibration next March, I think I will be very well pleased. This car is very nicely executed in just about every other way.
In addition to my 3.8 AWD (w/ Hankooks), I've driven 3 other Genesis 3.8's as loaners from a minimum of 2 days up to a max of 2 weeks. None have had vibration issues at all! 2 of the loaners were RWD with (1 w/ Michelins, 1 w/ Hankooks) and 1 was AWD (w/ Michelins).

What model are you coming out of? I can't tell from the pic. If it is a 3 series then the G2 will be a NICE step up. If a 5 then it will be on-par. If it is a 7 - then not so much - especially if it is loaded. That being said - if you want the style & lux of a 7 but in a smaller package - without having to pay for a 5... then the G2 is the answer. I spent a lot of time (~1 year) doing apples to apples comparisons between the 5 & 7 vs. the G2 before ultimately deciding on the G2.

Just find one with the tire recall performed (Michelin tires) and you are good to go.

Yes. And the motorcycles are spelled Beemer (or Beamer in more minor circles).
I've got a 335i M Sport that I picked up in Munich by way of European Delivery. It's a really wonderful car, but as I'm aging and my lower back pain worsens, a larger, more comfortable highway cruiser seems to better fill my bill.

Earlier I had an '06 5er that I also picked up in Germany. I loved that car even more. The steering feel was far better, made before the auto companies started switching over to electronic steering systems.

So, I'm looking forward to the second gen Genesis. It's got size and comfort slotted between a 5er and a 7er, BELOW the price of a well equipped 3er. You just can't beat that.

Yes, I'm sure I'll find a good one when the time to buy comes up next March. It's just that my two test drives have me (only a little) nervous.

most companies would NOT have stepped up to change the tires. I think it was hyundais safety and pr concerns that drove them to do so. the owner pretty much gets a free tire replacement in 3 years.

the earlier productions are a steal since u get the perk to get new tires. the hankooks are perfectly fine.

some doods in the middle east who used the hankooks in extreme conditions, had a video on YouTube showing shredded tires. That and people complaining of road noise and vibrations. which caused hyundai to this tire recal. Eithet hankook or hyundai will eat the cost, and it's not a cheap one at that.

Those middle east shredded tire videos were not Hankook's.

I agree that the potential problem was very likely much more severe than just a ride comfort issue when tires are cold, that prompted the recall.

Since Hyundai makes over 3 million vehicles per year, and Hankook is a Korean company, Hyundai probably has some leverage over them if the tires are defective, and probably Hankook gave them some kind of credit for the tires.

Except, it was not a recall! If there was really a serious issue with the Hankook tires, it absolutely would have been a recall - so that theory does not hold water. It appears to be more of a PR move based on customer feedback. Still very curious, but no way it was a serious issue related to safety given that the replacement campaign is completety optional...

Interesting post but I agree an apples to oranges comparison. I have a 2015 Genesis Ultimate and love the car and the value it represents. My "crossover" was from a Cadillac CTS and after owning three of them leased the Hyundai with few regrets My wife has a 2013 Mercedes C300 Sport and we drove the 2015 300 MB as a possible replacement. We did not like it at all. The "value" had declined. Her 300 has sport package, full nav. premium sound, and a 6 banger and was a 46,000 MSRP car. The 2015 replacement C sport has a turbo four, run flats, the goofy i pad stuck on screen, goofy touch pad over a Command selector button, and (worst for us) a goofy gear selector on the steering column. The 2015 comparably equipped was approx 55,000 with 4 instead of 6. When we posted our opinions on the MB owners site I was predictably labeled as an automotive
luddite for not immediately falling in love with the new 300.
Anyway, I digress. The Genesis is a value play against E350, 5 series, and A6. It succeeds well. The C class is a compact luxury car that competes with ATS, A4, and 3 series. I personally feel the MB is a wonderfully engineered and solidly built vehicle. All things considered I think MB makes a better quality car than Hyundai but loses hands down on the value offered proposition. Hyundai has done a remarkable job in offering stylish and value loaded vehicles and they should be pleased with their success.

Of course, reasonable people can disagree, and I do. In my humble opinion, I don't believe my 2015 C300 was solidly built at all, and I would further disagree that it is a better quality car than my new Genesis. What is remarkable to me, and what motivated my original post, was the fact that the Genesis is SO much more solid, SO much quieter, and SO much substantial than the C300.

Kudos to Hyundai, which built for me the Mercedes I had originally hoped to buy.

I think the 2nd genesis should be considered a full on luxury sedan rather than "the value" choice. I think the design appeals strong enough to have identity. The car really is a simple uncluttered design.

Can't speak to the 2015 C300 except to say we opted not to buy one so not a vote of confidence. My wife had C300 and C350's before (well equipped) and I can say that they were rock solid- never heard a rattle. We leased these cars and with high residuals and factory incentives they were a pretty good deal.
(also leasing G2 Ultimate as company vehicle and was glad to see HDai more aggressive in their leasing)

I don't think I would be tempted to buy a MB outright partially because of ridiculous cost of maintenance.

I love my G2 and am a vocal advocate. It is a great value. I am a little concerned at the rattle (apparently from sunroof) which was not present in the first few months of ownership which is becoming loud and objectionable.

My comments are not to disparage the G2 at all but feel they (hyundai) will have to prove to me over time the car is built nearly as well as MB's.
Only other 'complaints' are no fogs on 3.8 and no led DRL/turn signal.

At some level to even be in the same quality ballpark for 2/3 the price is quite a feat. Also love the styling of the car.
