  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello All.....

My name is Lawrence and I'm from the Dallas-Fort Worth area. I been on the site for a month and I really like it here. A lot of good information here. For many years of owning American luxury cars from Cadillac Deville's and Lincoln Town Car(current vehicle) I've decided to take a strong plunge and give the Genny a try. I been reseaching the car for about 1 to almost 2 years now and with the radio systems being an issue everything else seems to be good thus far. I plan to purchase a demo 2013 Genny with 4500 miles, the premium package only(a lot of car for the money) White Satin Pearl with cashmere interior. So I would like to know if there are some things to look for on this car as I plan to keep it for more than 5yrs. Also I would like to know the best site or company where I can purchase the Genny badges, lower chrome door moulding, and H.I.D. lights as the premium pack dont come with them...... Hope to hear from someone soon....

I would blow the cash for a premium plus tech. Aftermarket HID's are pretty low brow and even though the car will have projector lights, adding a HID kit is still not the same as a factory setup. The better nav, seats, and stereo upgrade also come in the tech. package. You should be able to negotiate a pretty sweet deal on a demo or CPO car.

the after market HID lights are great. However take a serious look at a new model. I dont know if all the deals and rebate are still on but you will get the 100,000 mile warranty with a new Genesis (stops at 60,000 for a second owner). I purchased a base model for $27,800 and my brother purchased one with the tech Package for slightly over $35,000

I dont know if those type deals are still out there but I would bet they are

Good Luck - You will like the car what ever you do

KDM on EBay sells badging. got a good deal for my trunk badge, wheels caps and steering wheel emblem. This was a while ago but it was in the range of $51.00 shipped.

Are you saying you bought a brand new Genny for $27.8K???? Something's wrong there.

Thanks alot of y'all replies. I may need to look into demo with the tech package.

Not to mess up your thoughts here, but, I'd seriously consider an R-Spec over the 3.8L. There is so much more for the money with the R-Spec that you cannot get with the 3.8L base regardless of the options you buy. A lot of things just aren't offered on the 3.8L vs the R-Spec. At least compare the two very closely so you don't end up doing like a bunch of others on here who have spent thousands trying to make the base model like the R-Spec and they still aren't there and never will be.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Whilst the RSpec is a fine vehicle, not everybody can either afford to buy/run or needs a V8..
Each of the Genesis models have their own Pro's & Con's. Overall the "G" range
offers great value whatever models you choose..
I find my 2013 Genesis V6 (fully spec'd) is a well rounded vehicle..
It does not have Ferrari acceleration, or Lotus type roadholding" and even the cheapest Prius will leave it in the dust economy wise.. B U T ->
It's a bl**dy good car........... I love it....... When the time comes it may well be the first time ever I replace a car with it's latest sibling""" ;)

The only thing missing from a loaded 3.8 VS a R-Spec that cannot be added (besides the V-8 and stiff ride) is the auto dimming driver's side mirror. Lighted door sills and chrome side trim are cheap and easy to add. After driving both, the stiff ride and expensive 19's, are not missed.

Fast - there are a few more things that you get with the rspec...

1) Larger brakes with four-piston calipers all the way around
2) Retuned suspension with Sachs Amplitude Selective Damping shock absorbers
3) Tauter rear multilink
4) Larger anti-roll bars
5) HID adaptive headlights with dark chrome accents

Brakes yes, but on the 2013's, the differences are a lot less than they used to be. 2-4 are pretty much the stiff suspension that I didn't like, and my car has HID's with AFLS.

If you could squeeze a few more grands you could get yourself a new '13 r-spec for the cheap.;)
Got my r-spec just last Saturday for 39.5k before tx+ttl.
Key word: year end + incentives

Probably only going to get better with the release of the 2015 sometime in 2014. Then they will really be trying to push the 2013/14s out the door. Under $40K for a new rspec is like stealing - crazy good deal!

How so? From what I have read, the brakes are exactly the same on 2012s and 2013s. I drove both and noticed a huge difference.

But bigger than 2010 and earlier, nearly the same as the R-Spec. I didn't feel a noticeable difference in the brakes, they look the same as a R-Spec although the difference is 13.6" VS 13". Earlier cars have smaller brakes. I have no complaints on my late build V-6, maybe the bigger rotors and fluid upgrade or whatever else is changed to solve the early brake problems is the difference, I honestly don't know. I did drive a CPO 2010 when shopping and the brakes and the power were not even close to the 2013 V-6 or (obviously) the R-Spec I drove.

Yes, they are slightly larger but they also have 4 piston calipers on all 4 wheels which = more friction across the pad = better braking and more even wear. I wouldn't consider this nearly the same as the rspec.

Agreed on the power (and pretty much everything else) for the older cars.

Look, I have nothing against the R-Spec. If it had a better ride and I didn't already have something much faster I might have bought one. The fact is, the V-6 has 4 piston calipers in front on a slightly smaller rotor and the rear brakes are the same size. Yes, the rear 4 piston caliper is better, but these aren't race cars, not even a R-Spec.

Given equivalent rubber and the fact that the V-6 is 150-250 lbs. lighter, I would bet the stopping distance isn't all that different. My money is on the features that make the cars better daily drivers, and in that case there is no difference between a loaded V-6 and the R-Spec except the V-6 rides better and is a little better on gas.

I bought the V-6 and took a shot on adding the dimming driver's mirror which I wasn't able to do (yet). If we had better roads in So. Cal., I might have bought the R-Spec anyway, but again, as a daily commuter, I think the 3.8 is the better value for a prospective buyer, especially since the 2015's aren't that far off.
