I am a few months away from purchasing my first Genesis. I have seen several other genesis with black soot on the bumpers. Is the soot problem something that is only found on the GDI engines?
I rented a 2013 3.8 the other day and noticed that after about 300mi of driving that the exhaust was black and the bumper from the exhaust to the trunk lid was filthy. I am sure it didnt help that the car was white.
I liked the v6, but as I currently have a Camry XLE v6, I want to go to a v8 car with RWD. I love the idea of the 5.0 R-spec, but I am wondering if the soot problem exists on the R-spec as bad as it was on the 3.8.
I could care less about the soot in the air, but the soot on the bumper is something that would bother me. To be honest, I am lazy, therefore will likely not wash the car as much as many do here. I don't want to go a month without washing and find my bumper permanently damaged.
I noticed that the 4.6 is non GDI, however there is something about having a car that crosses that 400hp threshold that is very intriguing and making me lean toward the 5.0.
To summarize, do you R-spec owners have the soot problems seen on the 3.8's?
If so, should the soot issue be present on the non GDI 4.6 engine model?
Does anyone make a different bumper/exhaust that routes the soot farther away from the bumper?
Thank you in advance
