  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

sport vs.regular mode

Also, I think that the 2015 Ultimate was the only one that had the electronically adjustable shocks until the G80 Sport came out.
Correct.
I believe the 2015 5.0 ultimate model is the last and only V8 model to receive the active suspension. 2017+ V8 models only have passive suspension, while the G80 Sport received the active suspension. The 2015 5.0 Ultimate model will be an unique classic in the future I bet.

yeah, it was a 3 year gap. The systems aren’t even the same.
I believe the active suspension systems are the same(or similar with some tweaks) in the 2015 5.0 Ultimate models and the 2017+ G80 sport models, however the active suspension system was not added to the 2017+ V8 models since the Sport 3.3T V6 covered the sport model category. The 2015 5.0 Ultimate was the original sport model before it became the top luxury model in 2017 and then received passive shocks designed for smooth cruising befitting a luxury cruiser. Therefore, same system(fined tuned maybe) but different packaging.

How do you know the two systems are different in case I am wrong?

Note: I do not think the "updated" 2017+ G80 sport suspension is an improvement in handling(maybe ride quality)over the 2015 5.0 active suspension per C&D road test. The 2015 5.0 has better numbers. The G80 Sport even has AWD. The lighter RWD G80 sport model is not any better in terms of handling.

The original adaptive suspension in the 2015 was the Luxury option, but it was widely panned by critics as being too soft in comfort mode and too stiff in Sport mode. The passive suspension sits on the stiffer side of Comfort.

When reintroduced in the G80 Sport, the control system and spring progression were changed with an increase in responsiveness and narrower window between Comfort and Sport- yes, Sport mode is softer in the Sport model 😂

Sport mode in a 2015 should adapt from “tight” to “teeth rattling” with aggressive input at the steering wheel. Yes, the car determines ride stiffness based on the steering wheel and stability control yaw sensors.

Interesting. Good Intel.

I have to agree that Sport mode in my 2015 does get a bit harsh over bumps, but it does take curves well without much body movement. LOL. I like the soft ride in Eco and Normal mode which is prefect for cruising. Lexus smooth. No complaints from me. Well, Sport mode is well Sport mode so it should ride a bit harsh. I like it the way it is personally.

Your post explains why the 2015 5.0 model handles better than the 2017+ G80 Sport models. I always thought that was odd when I read the test results. Now I know they "refined " the ride in Sport mode in 2017 which reduced the overall performance.

A side note, I also notice braking performance was reduced as well in 2017+ G80 Sport models. It seems like they took some of the sport qualities out of the Genesis in 2017+ Sport models compared to the 2015 5.0 Ultimate raw performance numbers.

Funny thing about the G80 Sport 3.3T is that the front end will dive more under aggressive braking action than a 2015 5.0. So despite being lighter in the front, the weight transfer pulls more weight off the back tires which ultimately hurts stopping distance.

I like the way my 2015 5.0 Ultimate goes down the road... Sport isn't really all that stiff by absolute standards - My old G37s sedan on the other hand was like riding inside of a paint shaker!

I like the regular mode the best - takes the edge off cratered Houston roads without wallowing like a shot duck.
