The paint Scheib used was made by his company so the product mark-up was his profit. The finish on cars in his day was much more simple than today without multiple base layers and clearcoat. His company would spray a car for 29.95, nothing else for that price. No buffing. His paint system may not include curing time or heat for booth to speed curing. Failure to cure properly was apparent. For those who knew nothing about painting an auto he was the right man.
There were better paint options for higher prices but the advertisement brought in the uninformed, same now as then. And his ads were everywhere and his speaking straight to the camera was impossible to deny.
