  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Spyshots of 2021 G70 facelift

The 3.3T has lots of headroom, so they could just up the power...

Personally I think it would be really dumb on Genesis end to not include both Powertrains. Unless they are holding out for the next Gen model because that might come sooner rather then later (I expect it to be 2 years after the F/L comes out).

Hmmm..... If that's the case (ie no implementation of the new smartstream engines) then there is no way I'd get the refreshed G70.

While I really am liking, more and more, the new headlights and taillights, the only reason why I'd trade in my current G70 for the refresh is entirely dependant on the new engine lineup, and the addition of a 400+ hp 'Sport' trim. If not, then chances are I will go with something else.

Honestly, I kind of hope they don't add the new engines, so I could pay off my lease and avoid having a car payment

My lease is a 5 year, so I've got lots of time to watch what comes out... and while I do that, I get to enjoy an awesome car.

Great thing about hardly driving these days...is when I do go out...I appreciate how stunning it is. It almost feels like when I first got it 1.5 years ago. Kinda crazy. It is indeed a hot sexy car. The Siberian Ice gets me every time!!!!

KCB is reporting that AutoPost is stating no engine upgrades for the F/L G70.

Now, don't entirely buy that as of yet as publications have gotten things wrong before, and Genesis has already applied for certification of the 2.5T motor for the G70 w/ the EPA (also doesn't make sense that the F/L Stinger would get the upgrade and not the G70).

A possible scenario is a year delay in getting the new motors (or at least the 2.5T), but can't see the G70 not getting one or both upgrades as it is vital to do so for the Euro market; can't see the G70 estate being launched in Europe w/ the 2.0T, so maybe they want it so that the estate and the sedan get the new engines at the same time (on the assumption that the estate won't be ready until a later date from the launch of the F/L sedan).

I think that Korean Car Blog article is completely ridiculous; honestly, I find it hard to trust most of their articles because they’ve gone back and forth on things so many times. Like has been said, it would be absolutely absurd for Hyundai to allow the Stinger to get the new engines and not the G70. It just wouldn’t make any sense. And, if you remember, KCB originally said the Stinger would NOT be getting the new engines, before changing their stance. There is also the new quad exhaust system (still has dual outlets) and I’d find that odd if the engine wasn’t changing at all.

Given that Genesis has applied for EPA certification of at least the 2.5T, I don’t think we have anything to worry about.

Yeah but we are getting red leather as per the "spy" shots, engine rumors notwithstanding.

Hmmm ... no 2.5t engine could very well put the 2021 G70 out of the running for me. The 2021 Acura TLX with it's 3.0t V6 and SH-AWD is gonna be a very nice setup.

That's a tough call. I admit that deciding on the G70 was a struggle for me. I was able to cross off alternatives based upon brand bias or tech specs. That Acura does bring in a great option though. I'm reluctant to give it a hard look. Nah, I'll still be checking it out. I like cars too much . I wanted a car (just impatient) so I have zero regrets pulling the trigger (though the Alfa Giulia keeps winking at me from time to time.)

While there may be a delay in the G70 getting the 2.5T (still think the F/L will get it w/ the delay being for the 3.5TT), will eventually get it, as the G70 and the upcoming G70 estate would be DOA for Europe w/o the 2.5T and 3.5TT.

I continue to be impressed with my 2019 G70 3.3T. Five weeks ago I bought a 2010 911S, a car I've been researching and contemplating buying for well over a year. Understandably, that's about all I've driven in the last five weeks. But this evening I decided to take the G70 for a spin to pick up dinner. I thought maybe it would seem a bit slow or feel heavy in comparison. I'm happy to report that I was almost surprised at how quick it still feels and how nice it drives, and how well the tranny responds to my wishes, as expressed with my right foot. I like it better than the Porsche PDK (heresy!). The ride, handling and steering are awesome for a sports sedan, and it certainly doesn't feel like it weighs nearly 3900 pounds. I imagine the newer models will be even better, which will be a tall order. If they do get the 3.5TT, that will be even better, not that it really needs it (I would be more interested in the better mileage it's supposed to get).
After driving various 3 series sedans for the last 20 years, I have no regrets in trying out the G70. As a car addict who's always looking and researching the next set of wheels, I would be interested in comparing it to the new 3 series and possibly the new Acura (although I generally don't like their looks), but I suspect the G70 would still compare well, and for less $$$. Maybe I'll be tempted into upgrading in 2021, maybe this time in Havana red, or...?
(Now, let's talk about those damn brake pads... 😉)

The current G70 really is a great first attempt by Genesis. But I had a chance to rent a 718 cayman base with PDK for a week last December in LA and it honestly put the 8AT in the G70 to shame. I know the porsche DCT underwent huge upgrades over the past decade. The weight difference was also hugely noticeable. But they are in totally different categories and I did learn to appreciate how comfortable the G70 is compared to the cayman.

This would never happen but finding a way somehow to introduce the wet DCT from the new veloster N into the G70 would make me do some serious fiancinally irresponsible things. If they ever find a way to introduce that in an upcoming G70 N version... A man can dream. Maybe even switching to the ZF with full manual mode without turning off nannies would be a nice upgrade. For now the current 8 speed is just fine.

Agreed. It's like the engine and transmission in the G70 are an 8/10. A few tweaks and they could be amazing. The engine is great and with some more top end power it would be awesome. The 8 speed is great and with a true manual mode and more snappy up and down shifts in a sport plus it would be awesome.

Hey, I'm not complaining. I love the G70. I guess knowing how good Genesis did on version one means we know version two is gonna be that much better...

I like the new look Genesis G80, G90 and the brand new GV80 SUV and more than likely the refreshed G70. I agree with a previous comment that if the engine isn’t getting the upgrades to the new 2.5t and 3.5t I might as well keep the G70 I already have and pay it off. I’d just wished I’d gotten the 3.3t with the 19in 5 spoke sport wheels instead of the somewhat okay multi spoke 18’s.

Don't know if you guys saw this, but, evidently the 2021 Stinger is not going to have the new 3.5 engine in Korea, something about a possible delay? Anyway, they mention the same treatment with the refreshed G70.

Take a look...
Kia Stinger Facelift Passed Emission Certification for Korea...with the 3.3 - Korean Car Blog

It's possible that the new engine lineup will just be an additional year out, which would make it be the 2022 model (which is what we were all expecting here anyway). But, I suppose there is a possibility that the Stinger or the G70 simply won't ever get the new smartstream lineup... I really hope that's not the case!
