  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Spyshots of 2021 G70 facelift

The G70 had the LSD before the Stinger. The torque split isn't related to the LSD.

You're right that the LSD was there before, but it was exclusively for torque vectoring between the two rear wheels, not capable of sending and locking 100% of the power to the rear for a drift mode like the AWD Stinger GT-S.

Kia calls the new system D-AWD, with the initial D standing for Dynamic. It combines a mechanical limited-slip differential with new software and driving modes that alter the power split: Comfort mode delivers 60 percent of the engine's power to the rear wheels, Sport ups that to 80 percent, and Drift mode tops out at 100 percent while commanding the transmission to hold gears at the rev limiter.

Sorry for the dumb post, but does the refreshed model (USA) have the LCD gauges (dynamic cockpit whatever)?
In the press pickup this morning, I noticed "larger gauge cluster... easier to read" but does that mean bigger physical DIALS, or the new LCD unit?
In the video, the comment was that USA does not get those. We won't know until the official Genesis USA press release drops.

Also no ambient lighting, no soft close doors (someone asked) and no remote parking.

It will have a digital gauge cluster...so I thought.

This is incorrect. We currently have drift mode fully capable of that.

~10:06 mark...

No new engines, same trans...kind of disappointing. I wonder if they are changing the tuning at all. I’m also curious if weight changes, which would mean performance differences to the current model. New features usually means extra weight

The press release advertises it as a brand new feature.

In addition, the 3.3-liter V6 with Sports package benefits from the addition of a Variable Exhaust Valve System, which gives the car a more aggressive exhaust signature, and a new Dynamic AWD System offers a built-in drift mode.

is it possible that KDM gets different powertrains in 2021 than NA will in 2022? or maybe all markets will get the latest engines for 2022? the refresh launches in KDM a year earlier than us and with different content, as well as a diesel engine. perhaps NA market will see the 2.5 and 3.5 engines a year after the initial refresh launch in KDM.

Genesis has already mixed powertrains up regionally. the 6MT was only available in NA, and NA never got the diesel that KDM and probably some other markets did.

makes no sense if the Stinger gets the 3.5, as does the other Genesis products, but the G70 doesn't. i wouldn't rely on that video as gospel for what we should expect...unless this has been confirmed by a NA source.

If KDM didn’t get it I am almost 99% sure that we won’t get the 3.5 and 2.5t. They would never do that to their home country. So don’t keep your hopes up. Also the 6MT was just a carryover from the Genesis Coupe 2.0T so it was already there. It was a parts bin thing and it failed.

They've done it before with the G80 5.0, which was sold only in North America. So there is a possibility that we'll get the 2.5T or 3.5T.

Wow...same engines. What a missed opportunity.

GV70 Sport better be nice.

I agree with you. If there was one that would of sold me was the newer engines but that didn’t happen. Also why tf does the Stinger get the new 2.5t and not the G70. I guess G70’s were selling better then Stingers.

The Stinger didn't get the upgrade to the 2.5T in Korea (apparently, only for NA), so that very well may be the case here.

Neither got the upgrade to the 3.5TT, so either won't happen til the next gen model (that is, if there is one) or waiting for the higher output variant of the 3.5TT.

Like the new front clip - best implementation of the Genesis crest grille (overall shape/proportions and size) and like how the quad headlights are angled/curved back, instead of just being flat/facing forward like for the G80; only thing is just wish the lines of the headlights were a bit sharper to give it a more aggressive look.

This video of the G70 at night only lit by a street lamp really shows off the lines of the hood/front.

Yes it did- here's the Korean price sheet:

And Charlie's test drive:

I recall the Stinger 2.0T didn't sell well in Korea while the G70 2.0T did, so there was little incentive for Genesis to add the 2.5T to their home market. It's a different story here though where the 2.0T barely sells compared to the 3.3TT. At the very minimum, I expect that we'll get the 2.5T.

U.S. specs are not finalized, but we might get the matte paint:

The 2022 Genesis G70 refresh will complete the automaker's styling transition, with a new design that meshes with the massively improved G90 and G80. That's not all it's doing, though, as Genesis seems committed to leading the sports sedan segment. To that end, we found out today that the company is adding a Sport+ driving mode, a valved exhaust, and drift mode to the G70.

None of these upgrades are entirely confirmed for the U.S. market, but the Korean-market G70 was detailed today and includes this newfound sport-focused tech. Because the U.S. tends to get more aggressively tuned vehicles than the Korean market, it'd be surprising if they didn't make it here.

Drift mode is only available on all-wheel-drive G70s with the Sports package. Genesis' official release doesn't go into detail, but drift modes for all-wheel-drive systems typically send more or all power to the rear axle. With stability control defeated, this allows an all-wheel-drive car to slide around predictably like an honest rear-wheel-drive sports sedan. Considering the take rate on all-wheel-drive is stratospheric in America, that's a welcome option.

So, too, is a valved exhaust. The new G80, for instance, drives extremely well and has a potent engine, but there's almost no engine noise. A valved exhaust allows you to hear the car growl in aggressive driving without sacrificing cruising quietness. That'll come on all V-6 G70s with the Sports package, while the new extra-aggressive "Sport+" driving mode that improves throttle response and weights up steering comes to all G70s.

All of this is in addition to the slew of non-performance tech that's coming to the new G70. A reworked, larger infotainment system, better semi-autonomous driving, and improved instrument cluster are all on the docket. The Korean-market model also offers a built-in dash cam, an NFC-powered phone-as-a-key system, and a slew of matte-finish colors. But don't get your hopes up, as those features were also shown on KDM GV80s and didn't make it stateside.

A spokesperson for Genesis USA said in an email there's a chance phone-as-a-key comes to the U.S. and that he's hoping for matte finishes, but finalized specs for the U.S. version. are not yet available. You'll just have to wait; The Korean launch is underway, but we're not expected to get the 2022 G70 until sometime in 2021.

Some crazy hi-res pics....scroll to the gallery at the end...

For some reason...really digging this one...

It will have a digital gauge cluster...so I thought.
Based on this, I can't tell. At a minimum, it looks "hybrid" - like digital gauges with physical rings?

and this... (the two purple dots are... part of the eye tracking?)

It’s 100% digital...but the question is whether it makes it to NA market.

The different dash layouts look good. This is in Sport mode. The actual pic of it is more crisp as this is just a screen grab. I wonder what the difference between Sport and Sport + will be like...

So essentially who here is getting the facelift and who is getting the next Gen model?

The front headlight area is too round...bug-like. The rear lights have grown on me...the merging lines still bother me a bit.

No mention of increased rear legroom...not surprising.

So glad the digital tach is clockwise...not opposite like we’ve seen elsewhere.

Variable exhaust is cool. Wonder if Sport+ increases hp/tq.

Not a fan of the way they rearranged the Qi charging space. Although the area can now fit a bigger phablet...you lose space for other trinkets. They could have left it the same as now and just made it a touch deeper and wider. Now...your phone takes up all the space in that area...no where to put your wallet...key fob...anything else small. Hope the wireless key and remote cam make it to NA.

Also...the 3.3T already has LSD and drift mode...so nothing new there.

All said...they f’d up with the engines...big time. I’ll wait for the full refresh. Just need to figure out a car in 1 year. Some beater for a while.
G70 with Sport+ package makes 370hp and 376tq

So essentially who here is getting the facelift and who is getting the next Gen model?
