  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

How many of you have had some minor squeaks and rattle issues with their cars? Where were the problems and how were they resolved? Addressed by dealer or resolved by individuals?

My front passenger side door is squeaking. It's somewhere deep inside the door and I can't seem to find it. Everytime it's in for service they can't duplicate it. Sounds like the glass is rattling in the door but the window is up. It's a minor annoyance. I'll get it fixed one day.

I also have a slight rattle coming either from trim around upper corner of windshield or from door also. I have used a mechanic's stethoscope without success trying to pin it down. Also dealing with squeak from left rear suspension. Still love the car though.

38,000 miles, mostly on interstate, and no rattles or squeaks.

42k, and I have three squeaks/rattles:

1. The sunroof squeaks when closed; solved by putting some WD-40 along the sunroof window seal.

2. There's some minor noise coming I think from up near the sunglasses holder?

3. The driver's seat bolster makes squeaky leather sounds as it rubs up against the transmission tunnel

I am hoping that we can create a data base so that when we visit the dealer to address any issue that does not have a TSB, it will be easier to identify and correct.

A couple of thoughts:

1. best to use silicone and not oil on rubber.

3. try coating the leather interior with Lexol leather conditioner/protector.

+1 on both.
Oil on rubber is generally to be avoided.
My front seats no longer make rubbing noises after treating them with a leather conditioner/cleaner. It took 2 treatments but what a difference it made.

Some good tips. These little annoying issues are often resolved by the owner and sharing solutions will be very helpful.

I could have sworn that my rattle was either coming from the sun visor as you said or from the vanity light in headliner but I really think it is the interior trim around the windshield. Tried a fix and will report back in few days.

I hear a rattling noise coming from either the driver's side front door or the B pillar when ever I go over a bump. Additionally, my glove box continues to squeak when turning, accelerating from rest, or going over bumps. I"m afraid to ask the dealer to do anything because taking apart the car is never turns out well.

The passenger seat has a squeak; it just started so I haven't really looked into it. Seems to only do it when someone is sitting in it.

I thought that I heard a rattle coming from the driver door or dash. I finally realized that it was the clasp on my watch when I went over bumps! This car is stinkin' quiet - which helps to find/isolate real rattles.

Cheers,

My slight rattle in area of passenger sun visor seems to be caused by the underside of the headliner. It now only happens very infrequently but when it does, I pull down the vanity light and reach into the cavity and pull down on the headliner. Could be an adhesive issue. I still have the creak in left rear suspension that is not present when it rains and underside gets wet so something is in need of lubrication.

First cold night 32F from 70F that day and had a creak around dash or windshield for the first 6 miles or so until car warmed up. My son's Mercedes has same issues when the temperature changes very fast. My opinion is its just all those materials contracting and expanding quickly that causes the noise. However, a tomb would be a little quieter.

I had this problem, and if if opened the passenger visor and pressed lightly on the headliner near the visor the rattle would stop. I told this to the dealer and showed them where I could stop the rattle. The tech opened up the area and found a long plastic piece that would rattle against the headliner near the passenger visor. He iserted a piece of foam between this piece of plastic and the roof and that fixed it. It has been silent ever since.

Only Rattle I've had with this car!

I pulled that piece out but it was actually metal. That piece really rattled until I removed it. Looked like a frame for the vanity light.

So, you just fixed it in the last few days? --- I took mine to the dealer and I think he told me it was plastic, maybe it was metal, anyway he insulated it.

What would it be for? -- Wouldn't you need it?

I pulled that piece out several weeks ago. It was a rectangular frame that had center cut out that looked like it would just allow the vanity light to pass through when installed in the headliner. The vanity lights slips in a bit easier now so likely was just used to keep from falling out. I have not had that problem. I saved the piece and put in glove box.
