If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've been trying to harvest the wonderful information on this forum in regards to getting the best deal possible on a Genesis. I haven't been too successful as the search function on this site leaves something to be desired. I’d like to get it consolidated so that we all have a resource. I plan on trading in a 2010 TL SH-AWD with 5500 miles.

Here is what I think I've learned:

1. Buy the last week of December. A poster wrote that dealers are under tax and reported revenue pressure to move cars off of their lot. But I can't find the post. It was very detailed and a great bit of info. I can't remember the details.
2. Use True Car.
3. Use Amex car buying function.
4. Negotiate for hold back???
5. Don’t tell the dealer you have a trade-in and negotiate the new car as a stand alone.
6. Use the internet to get prices from around the country, put them in a spreadsheet and use that as a negotiating tool.
7. Use Motozuma for Hyundai dollar for dollar matching up to $1000.00
8. Hyundai Circle. I can’t discover how to join. Contacted moderator at Hyundai Think Tank so I could join there and perhaps get in to Circle that way but no response from moderator yet. It’s been 3 days.
9. Competitive rebate.

That’s all I have. Did I get anything wrong or does anyone have anything to add?

If have you access to one of the buying services (AMX, Bank of America, Costco), and get the $1500 rebate and Motozuma match, the combination of these is very good price. You might save a few hundred more with Hyundai Circle, but I wouldn't worry about it that much if you cannot get in. IMO, its not worth killing oneself over a few hundred dollars on a $35K purchase.

Great idea Mark, we all need as much help as possible before wrestling with salesmen and dealers. Heads up on the hyundai think tank. I signed up on 7/13/11 and the next day recieved an acceptence e-mail. Danielle the mod told me via e-mail that after a 60 day waiting period & I contribute & active in the site I would then be allowed to send her a request to join the circle. She even sent me a think tank poll on what to name the new Hyundai Volster's dual clutch transmission that gets superior mpg.

I also joined motozuma from the great feedback within this forum and after 30 days can utilize the free 500.00 match max.

Unfortunately if the genesis 2012 r-spec sedan arrives at my dealership or nearby ones before the timeframe of the circle, I may not be able to use it. My luck the only r-spec slated in silver would be sold to another if I wait and with allocations so slim who knows when another would arrive. Waiting is the bummer, but I realize it's the best thing.

Went to zag.com and chose overstock & submitted all info but am unclear what happens next as no communications have been recieved except for the initial one that they recieved my request, then nothing. So I am not sure how that site program works.

1. Dec is good but any last days of the month should be okay.
2. Okay tool but Hyundai Circle is better, same non-hassle buy though
3. Same as #2
4. If you don't do Hyundai Circle, then you might negotiate for it.
5. Carmax or anywhere who can quote you. Actually best deals come from private party (selling it yourself)
6. Same as #2 but takes a bit more time and dealers may bait and switch
7. Best additional rebate (kinda)
8. Check your junk mail perhaps. I got the invitation within a day.
9. I heard some dealers have list, rest just gives out to everyone.

I will be going straightly for Circle pricing while waiting for Motozuma 30day wait period. End of August will be my time for purchase.

Now my tip.

-Take a day or two off on the day for purchase. (Buy the first day and wax the next day?:D)

-Weekday is better than Weekends. Not many other customers around and you can do through test drive.

-Bring someone cooperative with you. Be it your wife, bro, best friend etc. Really helps on negotiations, getting out of the deal if it doesn't work out, correct/remind of your deal/decisions.

-Keep cool. Take that grin off your face! You don't want them to know you want that car that badly. They will get into that weakness.

-Know the difference between trims and price. You don't want to pay R-spec price on 3.8 v6.

-Finance/Lease/Full cash. Full cash is the best unless you can get 0% with no finance charges(in my dreams). If financing it, have it prepared beforehand from your bank, credit union whatever first then compare from dealer's. Bring a calculator and borrow pen and paper.

-Shut them up for extended warranty unless you really are certain you will ride that long. Also make sure you are getting HMA extended warranty, not the third party crap shoots.

-Except factory options, don't even negotiate for additional accessories such as badging, bras, tinting etc. They do the job from outside and will be expensive compared to going to the shop yourself or DIY.

-Get quote for your Trade-in from Carmax. Jump for trade-in if the dealer puts higher price than you got quoted. But still you may end up better selling it yourself.

-Y'know if things don't work out. Get out take a fresh air, ponder whether you want to go back in or not and if the salesperson doesn't come for you, leave for different Hyundai dealer.

Can anyone else clarify on this? I am in same boat as timc1475 but hyundai circle does not need to join...knowing the CID and being associated with the organization is all you need isn't it? Maybe pricing difference?

If you obtained the Hyundai Circle code via the internet without being a Think Tank member, you might (or might not) be able to use it, but only because there is a hole in process. You would be violating the rules.

If you use a buying service, you don't have to worry about all this stuff anymore. And trying to negotiate with a salesman is tougher than using the buying service, becasue once a salesman gets into the process, they have to pay them a commision.

I don't think it is possible to negotiate that low. I think Circle price is the real dealer cost after kickbacks, and that Hyundai has to even give dealers some more kickbacks for the Circle deal just so they can make a few hundred dollars to cover misc expenses and not go out of business.

Car Buying 101:

7. Use Motozuma for Hyundai dollar for dollar matching up to $500.00 so that total amount (yours $500 + Hyundai $500) is $1000. Open Motozuma account no later than 30 days before you buy the car otherwise you won't be able to use it.

10. Negotiate your trade-in (if you have it) as separate transaction. Don't even mention it until you finalize all numbers with car purchase. Come prepared with current NADA, Black Book, Kelley Blue Book, National Automobile Dealers Association trade-in prices, but don't expect dealer to match it. Good idea to find MPR (Manheim price report) in your local bank that does auto loans. Most dealers base trade-in value on dealer auction prices. You can always see if dealer offers less than your researched price if you come prepared. Also, if you have Carmax nearby, doesn't hurt to get their appraisal as well. Don't bring dirty car (unless dirt hides something you want to hide), depending on the value of your car do/don't do auto-detailing. Use Dr. Color Chip to hide some dings/scratches.
A few sites to get your paint:
www.automotivetouchup.com/
www.drcolorchip.com
Also, before trade-in offer your car to your manufacturer's dealer first. So, if you have Acura, find out what Acura dealer will give you. A lot of times you may get more money from your brand's dealer then Hyundai.

11. Negotiate all prices on a phone or by email (at least 4-5 dealers. If you have time, may be more). Try to get prices from Internet sales department. They are usually connected to fleet sales and may give you better prices. To avoid surprises find out all the fees dealer adds to the price. I usually step into dealership twice: to test drive the car and to sign the papers. I discovered about myself that I am quite a negotiator if I don't have to face "the opponent", so phone/email tactic works best for me. If you prefer face to face talk, be prepared to get up and leave if negotiation doesn't go your way. A lot of times they will stop you at the door with some discount. Be very polite, but very firm.

12. Buying in December is good, but not everyone can wait till December. If you can't, try to buy at the end of the month; if end of month falls between M-W - even better. Dealers need to meet their monthly quotas and get bonuses for volume sell.

13. Don’t buy undercoatings, overcoatings, paint protectors, extended warranties, etc. All those frills and options can be purchased later online for much less.

14. If you do cash down payment and have credit card with rebate, put as much as you can on it to earn rewards. I plan to put down $10k, and my cc returns 1%. So my profit is $100. Not much, but why not?

15. Financing. Hyundai offers either $1500 rebate or good financing options. Get a rebate and your own financing. If paying by cash/bank loan, don't mention that until all the numbers are finalized. Dealers get % back when they give you Hyundai financing, so they may not give you as good car price as you can get if using their's financing options.

I know Glashub was more specific about Genesis purchase and all above is more generic stuff that applies to any car. But trust me, it works.

To get into Hyundai Circle Thru Hyundai Think Tank, you have to sign up and "sorta" Active in Think Tank for at least 2 months.

I asked just couple days ago.

they respond my email fast, usually just overnight.

Anyway what I found is that, Hyundai Circle is ONLY GOOD for newest model year cars. like the 2012 now.

If you're shopping for 2011 though, then you might want to look into other services like Truecar.com/Amex/BoA(They're all running thru Zag.com anyway)

One more thing: before you sign papers ask to inspect the car you are getting, again, to avoid surprises. Check if there any scratches, check leather, tires are deflated to manufacturer's recommended, the mileage doesn't look strange (was your car used for test drive?). You may even ask to take it for a quick test drive. After all, you're paying big bucks so they shouldn't refuse.

Do they allow Credit card? All my previous dealers refused since percentage taken by credit card processing takes up into their profit.

They will up to a point, usually 2g on credit card down for pymt. But it's up to each dealer invariably. Wish I could charge the whole amout the points I get with my sony visa would be crazy!

excellent call..
using just there car buying center (google it) you will come away most informed. click the true car pricing link and you will see what holdback, adv fees, etc. are and you can get it for $500 over true dealer cost (like $1000under invoice or so) some have negotiated even better..

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
What is motozuma? How does it work? I would like to use it and am most likely going to get a genesis in August or September, but a used one. Does motozuma work for used genesis' as well? Also do you guys think I will be able to get a 2009 Genesis 4.6 for 23000. That is somewhat my limit.

use cars.com or autotrader, etc. to find out. i think you will be able to find one for that price without an issue

Yeah but I want to get mine locally. I am in the Los Angeles, CA area and they don't have too many used Genesis 4.6 with tech for good prices around me. I also don't want over 40k miles.

Just to keep this updated. Zag.com is a True Car company and apparently comes in less than Circle pricing.
