  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

has anyone had their fob battery die on them. If so, how can you start it without the fob.
Is it wise to keep an extra battery in the glove box.

How long does a battery last

Car doesn't have a fob holder somewhere near dash to plug in dead fob so car starts? My old 2009 Genesis did.

Hold the fob in contact with the button. Battery should last 1 to 2 years. You should also get a low battery warning too.

Thanks Ed. You are a good resource. So if I understand you correctly, I simply put the fob onto the start/ stop button and the car will start up. Even though the battery is dead.

Correct. There is some electro magnetic magic that happens.

Disregard my prior post

Check the manual about using the blade key in the fob in case fob does not work door lock. Try it ahead of an emergency. Another fob battery in the car is perhaps a bit more than most would do but if you have had it happen once then you might appreciate the satisfaction of knowing your options.

Thanks. Did look it up. But I like real life experiences

I think our FOBs have a RFID built in and those don’t need power to function. When you place the FOB next to the start button, the car can read the RFID so when you press the button it will start.
