  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Steering on Curves - Sticks

They Found a leak in the R/P? What was it, grease seepage? This rack doesn’t use fluid like hydraulic racks.
I don't know, hopefully, I'll get a better explanation of the problem and repair when I pick it up later today. And more importantly, whether it actually fixes the problem with the binding.

Late to the game but posting for reference, here's my 2018 G80 with the problem

Yep, same thing!! I've never gotten anywhere with the dealership on ANYTHING. Not sure why, but probably their lack of knowledge of Genesis since Missouri doesn't have a huge market for them. Go straight to Hyundai customer service, open a ticket with them, show them the videos and let them know YOU KNOW that this is a known problem. My car has been perfect since!!

Yes, I apologize, how do I do that? I'm not finding how to do this??
Pretty sure only the admin can move an entire thread, which is why I pinged him

Well I experimented tonight with my 2015 by taking my hands off the steering wheel after making a turn and the steering wheel did center itself every time. So the steering wheel not centering behavior in the videos are not normal for the EPS system in our cars and does seem like a serious malfunction.

I normal keep my hands on the wheel while I drive so I never really knew that the steering wheel center on its own, therefore I assumed that I was centering the wheel. However, the steering wheel does center on its own in my 2015.

Picked up the car on Tuesday, spoke to the service manager and asked what he meant the other day when he said the R&P had a leak. He apologized and said he misspoke, the steering rack was the issue, which was what they replaced. There was another Genesis getting the same repair done the day I picked up the car. Doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. I also wonder why this wasn't diagnosed the first time I brought the issue to their attention. Back then, it was binding just as much as now, but the tech claimed he didn't feel it (even after I let him keep the car overnight and drive it home). I got the sense that they were unwilling to invest the time to find the problem--sort of blew me off by saying the tire rotation might help and if not, bring it back. Same stall tactic with the turn signal stalk malfunction, which was happening at the same time. Because it was intermittent, and they didn't see it happen, they claimed they couldn't fix it (even though that issue is also well documented on this forum). This time, I had video of it happening and suddenly they were willing to replace it. I love the car, but I'd hate to think how much all of this would've cost if it weren't under warranty. Hope the replacement parts hold up better than the originals. I have one more year on the warranty; I guess I'll have to decide between then and now if it's worth the gamble to keep the car.

I have had two G80's a '15 and '18 and both have had steering problems. The steering sticks coming out of turns and sometimes on a straight away. This has nothing to do with the Lane Assistance...which i never have on.

Purchased a used 2015 Genesis AWD last month. New tires and alignment but it had this exact problem. No EPS warnings or anything on the dash to indicate an issue. Dealership covered the replacement of the rack & pinion assembly and it drives properly now. The vehicle is a few months past it's 5yr/100k warranty.

It's a really weird feeling, best I can describe it was a bit like winding a clock. It didn't take much force to correct it but it's aggravating and dangerous at high speeds.

I have a 2018 and I have had the same issue. Like you back and forth multiply times to the dealer. Finally after telling them I will not take the back because it is a safety issue they replaced the rack. This did the trick for a year. Now it is starting up again. Sounds like they have a design or wear issue with their rack and pinion.
They are picking up the car today. The lease is coming up at the end of the year. Not sure I want to buy it at this point which was the plan.

And why would you???

When driving on a winding road (mainly left winding) the steering my Genesis will stick to the point you have to yank it back to center. Of course the dealer cannot figure it out. Has anyone experienced this issue?
Yes. They replaced the whole steering assembly under warranty. They said the variable power assist motors were seizing. Fixed completely, no further issues.

I've owned my 2015 Genesis for 3 years. Over the past 6 months I'm having issues with my steering sticking when making turns. Most obvious when hwy driving at higher speeds. The wheel fails to return to the center position. If slightly turning right, it stays right, same with the left. Two dealerships and Hyundai Corporate are involved and no one can give me an answer. They say that I'm showing no codes with my power steering - tires are new Michelins - alignment is perfect. I'm beyond frustrated that no one's even making suggestions of things to check - the camber - tie rods - I just keep googling and hoping to come up with an answer. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!
I had the same problem on my 2017 and I ended up replacing the steering rack which solve the problem

2018 G80 Sport. Same issue.
I will be contacting the Genesis/Hyundai dealer in Akron, OH soon about this. Anyone have any tips? I am way too passive and mechanics pick up on this character flaw and take advantage. Need to know how to approach them to get this replaced. At 55,000 miles (as a second owner) so it needs done soon.

For my car, it took a test drive doing hard S turns for them to detect the problem. Once they did they immediately went to the replacement of the entire steering assembly option. You can also print out this blog and take it with you. Hyundai (or Genesis customer service can help as well if the dealership can’t help.)

Great... There is no way I can get them to replicate this on the straight city streets of Akron Ohio. They will of course say nothing is wrong and there is nothing they can do. I'm going to try going straight to corporate to see if they can help.

Make sure you are taking your car to a Genesis dealer and not one that just sells Hyundai. Mechanic training and customer service is far superior for Genesis vehicles.

I mean all the Genesis "dealers" in Northeast Ohio are just Hyundai dealers that also sell Genesis.

We have a Hyundai dealer that does not sell Genesis and another that does and the difference is very noticeable.
