If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Suddenly the 3 buttons on the left side of the steering wheel have stopped working properly. Namely the Mode, Voice Control, and the Phone buttons.
When i hit the Voice button, it sometimes says "Please Wait" after a long delay, instead of "Enter a command". Most other times, it does nothing but just mutes my music...which then takes 2-3 minutes to come back. The Mode and Phone buttons may or may not work randomly.
Anyone else experience this behaviour?

I once had the center button (voice) say that, but then five seconds later, the bell rang, and it acted normal again. (Only happened once).

if this is happening on a regualr basis I would bring it in. I had an issue with tunning in HD stations but it only happened once and has not occured again.

This sounds exactly like the problem I have experienced. Have a look at the "No sounds out of speakers" thread. There are several other threads discussing this, but the main symptom is the sound system going inop and/or the steering buttons going inop. The system either comes up with a pregnant pause (15-30 sec), then the system may come back with... "Please wait"; sometimes it just completely hangs and the sound system is completely inoperative after this.

In my case, the amp was replaced to remedy this issue. Others have had both the amp and the "head unit" to address this issue. Note this problem is usually intermittent (seems to increase with lower temp, and/or increased humidity) and often difficult to reproduce. In my case, in order to demo the problem to the dealer, I repeatedly issued the voice command "Map zoom in" followed by "Map zoom out" until the system malfunctioned.

I have been into the shop several time regarding the voice button starting in November. Remains a problem.

Thanks Bernie, i looked into that thread and this quote by you is exactly what is happening to me word by word:

"From a clean start (car powered off for a while), I can use all center console functions (NAV, phone, AM/FM/XM, Info, iPod) without problems.

The problems start when I use voice activation. Otherwise everything seems to be fine. As I mentioned in an earlier posting, when I press the voice activation button (on steering wheel), the system either makes a pregnant pause before responding or says "Please Wait". In either case, after waiting for 30 sec or more, the system usually comes back and takes my voice command. Sometimes, it never responds. Regardless of what happens after I initiate voice activation, I end up losing sound from my speakers and the iDrive knob doesn't work. No matter what I do afterward, I can't recover either function.

Note, that even if I turn off the car and turn it on again immediately, the iDrive is still dead but at least I have sound. The iDrive problem goes away if I turn the car off and leave it off for a while.

Anybody with a similar problem out there? "

When did you have the Amp replaced? My Genesis was manufactured in March 2009, and i imagined it would already have the new amp made in Feb.

I got the car in late August 2008, and had no problems until December. Then the problem manifested itself quite regularly. In my case, the problem surfaced in colder (winter) temperatures... For me, the sound system would go inop; in only one instance did the iDrive also go inop. I have read in some threads that there may be a correlation with lower temperatures and higher humidity. The Hyundai policy regarding this fault is as follows... First, they'll update the car to TSB-63 software. Because that essentially resets the system, things will work again. But don't be fooled... After a few weeks of use, the problem will likely re-surface. Then, Hyundai will replace the amp unit (in the trunk). I had my amp replaced in late March. I have had no problems since. If the problem still persists, then Hyundai will replace the head unit. (I'm waiting for winter to see if the problem re-appears).

Note that this problem is quite intermittent in nature and as a result often difficult to reproduce. As I mentioned in my previous posting, I could pretty well reproduce the problem by repeatedly issuing voice commands (Map zoom in/out). In virtually all instances, it would start going flacky after 10-20 voice commands.

Hello - as you have seen by now, you are not alone in this. I noticed this for the very first time yesterday. If the steering wheel voice command responds at all, it is with a "Please Wait" - all sound goes dead for a very long time. I can not believe there is a connection, but this happened that same day that XM disabled the free one year trial period.

I read all the threads and armed with this data, called my Hyundai dealer and mentioned all of the threads, etc. As per usual, he has never heard of this problem, does not have any of the suggested replacement parts in stock and will not order any until they have seen the problem themselves - so, it looks like I will be making several 140 mile trips in an attempt to get this fixed.

Very frustrated.

Yikes! Your closest dealer is 140 miles away? Hopefully that is round trip! Either way, that really bites!

If any of you are having difficulty reproducing the problem, try using the procedure I have included in the attachment. The problem appears to be quite intermittent. In my case, this procedure helped me show the tech how to reproduce the problem.

Have a look at the many posts I have written on the subject. Several people have listed this problem under different threads, but I believe they are all talking about the same thing. The use of voice activation seems to increase the occurrence of the problem; the problem also appears to increase with colder temperatures.

PS: I have had my amp changed and that has greatly reduced the frequency of the problem, at least for now (it's not winter yet). However, there have still been a few instances where I noticed the problem again. The next step according to Hyundai, would be to change the "head unit". Others on the forum who have had both the amp and the head unit replaced appear to have the problem resolved once and for all.

Bernie, Thanks for the PDF. I have had button problems since last October. Each time the Service Manager locks his hands behind his head, leans back in his chair and says he can't do anything until Hyundai issues a TBS. Maybe this will get him out of his chair.

I had the same issue, except voice control would activate maybe 30 seconds later. The problem was isolated to the Swivel module, they replaced that and I have had no issues since with voice control.

The service manager should never do that, you have a brand new luxury car with problems, they should be running around to make you happy. I'd call corporate/area service manager and let them know of the issue and what the dealership response was.

Can you elaborate on what a "Swivel" module is and what it does?

PS: Before declaring the problem fixed... you should wait. In my case, the techs touched my Amp unit, and the software for the head unit; in both cases, the problem appeared to be fixed... only to come back a few weeks later. The last thing on the list is the head unit itself... unless your fix is the definitive one.

Yep - 140 miles. At least that is the round trip distance. I tried to access this link:

http://cid-5103094dcbb8400e.skydrive...8-01-010-1.pdf

But it does not seem to function - Does anyone know if this is the correct link to see the TSB "Mid-Greade lexicon audio system - amplifier replacement (campaign T55)?

Before purchase, I had done a ton of research on the Gensis 4.6 and concluded that it would be a car that allow one to avoid this kind of stuff.

Oh Well.

I didnt have any issue reproducing the problem, it happened almost every time i hit the voice button.
But now I believe i have a self-healing Genesis. The problem just vanished suddenly over 2 months ago....all buttons and voice are acting normally.
Now that someone has mentioned it....the problem started right when the 3 months XM subscription expired.

.

Come to think of it, my problems also started just after my 3 months XM subscription ended.

I was playing with my dad's car's voice recognition on the weekend (since it's English-only, he never uses it) and I noticed exactly that problem...

On Monday, the amp got replaced to fix XM (it would 'forget' his XM subscription). Was playing with the car again today, voice recognition works perfectly.

I wonder something... do you have an active XM subscription right now?

No, don't have XM subscription now. Maybe Bernie would like to try a month's subscription to check out if there is a connection and if it solves his problem!:)

My XM subscription ran out in Nov 2008. When I got the amp changed in April 2009, I noticed that my XM subscription had been "magically" restored for "free". I been enjoying XM ever since. :D
