  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

At 19,000 miles, during a short trip, I noticed that my steering wheel no longer moved up when I turned the car off. When I tried to adjust the wheel with the knob, the wheel went to the lowest position and will not move in any direction, up, down, in, or out.

I looked at the fuse diagrams on each side of the dash, but I can't see a fuse that might be involved.

Has anyone encountered this problem?

Go to the Tilt Steering Wheel Thread and you will find the answers you are looking for with suggestions you can try that may give you a temporary fix. Once you get the wheel back in a position that you are comfortable with I strongly advise that you turn off the easy exit steering feature until Hyundai gets this issue resolved.

Holy cow! Mine just worked too. I have a 2010 Genesis V8 w/tech, and it is a later model that required a steering column replacement once before. As mentioned above, with the car not running, I moved the steering wheel down as far as it would go holding the switch down for around 10 seconds. Then I moved the wheel in towards the dash, also holding that down for around 10 seconds after it stopped moving. Then when I pressed 'up', it went all the way!

After starting and stopping the engine, the memory system seems to be back again. Although this is annoying, it is a lot better than needing the dealership to do it each time.

I had noticed in the last week that my steering wheel was not going up as far as it use to on the exit function. Tried this and presto! all is back to normal with full motion. Thanks for this reset fix, it is soooo easy.

The last time I had problems with my steering wheel I just gave up messing with it and just washed the car. The wheel worked fine after that. I suspect your car knows when it is filthy dirty, which I suspect yours is right now and can only speak to you through the wheel.

Try washing your car and you will be pleasantly surprised--

Thanks, all. Ill give homeofstone's method a try and if that doesn't help, I'll research the tilt wheel thread. I'll even wash the car, although it is pretty clean now.

I managed to move the wheel up about 1/2" from the lowest point and then it went totally dead again. No up-down or in-out motion at all, but it is at the right place as far as in-out.

I can live for now without the wheel raising when I turn off the car. Biggest problem is that I can't see the high-beam indicator, but I don't need to drive at night this week I'll take it in to the dealer Wednesday.

I'm not sure if I'm the only one, but I have completely given up on the tilt/tele wheel. Mine has a mind of its own (never returns to the same spot) the dealer fixed it once and I mentioned it again and they said they couldn't duplicate it.

The worst thing is my car isn't tech package so I can't shut the "easy exit" off. I had a long discussion with the dealer about it. They claim only tech package cars can shut off easy exit.

I just adjust the wheel if needed when after I buckle up, its not worth it to me to persue it any longer. Only 15 months to go on the lease anyway.

Is your preferred seating position programmed? If so, did you try to press and hold the memory button down? Mine works whenever I press and hold or press more than once the memory position and it does return to the programmed position eventually. Make sure it goes through it's cycle before touching the shift lever.

The memory button does nothing, no matter how long I hold it down.

Today, after a couple of short jerks, the up-down switch started to work. In-out is still totally dead. I set it at the proper height and I won't move it again until I get it to the shop.

I have service appointment at 7 tomorrow morning.

In the meantime, I have the easy-exit feature turned off. I don't want the wheel to get locked in the full-up position again.

Took my car in for 30K today; noted yesterday that the telescoping function was not working correctly - managed to get it stuck at full extension (when I prefer full in as set in my memory function). Last night I nfound that Hyundai had released an updated Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) covering the issue. TSB 11-BE-003 was issued 1/24/11.

Dealer performed the limit switch replacement (took about 1.5 hours) covered in the Bulletin and so far all is well.

Good luck with your issue, let us know the outcome.

Just returned from the dealer. They installed TSB 11-BE-003, but there was also a problem with two wires that had become jammed somehow due to the movement of the wheel. They replaced the wires and now everything works as designed.

One of the perks of owning a Genesis. It was blowing a gale and in the teens this morning and the service department manager personally drove me in his Veracruz to a restaurant for breakfast and then picked me up afterward.

Could you please relay how to turn off the easy exit function? I have been unsuccessful in trying to find out how. Thanks!

8 year old thread, they are all gone ...

Its in the vehicle settings in your info nav radio system if you have tech pkg with nav.
