  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Steps to making a better Hyundai Genesis

Needed:

Adjustable air suspension (possibly the only way to please all buyers)
Sync-like voice recognition system
6-8 way power adjustable passenger seat w/ optional cooling
Factory-installed remote start system
Sport package w/ 19" wheels, a thick 3 spoke steering wheel, aluminum pedals, and more supportive seats
Better dealership experience :)

Nice:

AWD
A bit more interior detailing (color center gauge display, a thin band of chrome trim around the door armrests ala Equus, real wood trim)
Power open/close trunk
8 speed auto (yes, I know it's coming)
Panoramic sunroof
Another 25-35 hp (gotta keep up with the M37/56)

Not needed

???

Great post! The adjustable air suspension would have done it for me. I would have also liked:

- Better bluetooth integration (transfer phone book, for example) -- maybe this is resolved in 2010?

- Better iPod integration (example: showing full artist/song information) -- to be fair though, I had to add an aftermarket kit to my $75,000 Lexus, so I guess the fact that the Genny even had basic integration to begin with is something in itself.

- Memory settings integrated with keyfob.

Even those are relatively minor things that weren't dealbreakers.

1. I would like to have the cruise control work as it does in our Mercedes E350.
Set the speed and the cruise keeps it locked, uphill or down, very Germanic. Also has 5mph increments as an option.
2. Another (3rd) seat memory.
3. Seats from the Merc (or Volvo 1995 850T)
4. A little more high speed stability / less sensitivity to cross winds.
5. A different 'finish' to the centre console switch/buttons, it looks as 'cheap' as it is at the moment.

Wow I'm comparing the Genesis against a car that costs $20,000.00 more, there's not much wrong...

My black on black 3.8 with premium pack (and badges) is wonderful, only 600 miles so far:)

My suggestions:

Adds
Separate and constant display of HVAC settings and temperature (my model only shows it in the NAV screen when you adjust the HVAC)

110VAC outlet for charging phones, laptops, small devices. Needs a breaker to prevent plugging in a toaster though.

Definitely fix the rain dripping into the trunk when opening

More flexibility in entering in a destination to the NAV system

Mud flaps

Break the front and rear plastic bumper covers into smaller sections that can be more easily replaced when dinged or scratched

More spacing between the gas pedal and brake pedal. I will sometimes find I am pushing both at the same time when trying to stop.

Remove

Cigarette lighter and ashtray from the front.

Here's my list that might make an already great car better:
AWD
Fix the horn. You can not give a quick toot, only a blast.
Better hinges for the trunk. It is too heavy.
When locking the car remotely, warn it the sunroof is open. (why don't all cars have this?)
Suspension could use a little refinement.
Better OEM tires (Dunlops hydroplane and have poor tread life)
Sync bluetooth contacts.

I will settle for a cruise control that can keep a constant speed. I was spoiled by the cruise systems of Nissan. Both my Maxima and my Infinity will keep a constant speed uphill or downhill. I really don't see why the Genesis can't do that.

1. What's needed ... the remote button on the mirror for the garage door needs a light or a protrusion or something ... cannot find it in the dark. Manuals for each specific configuration of vehicle (they could be downloadable PDF files and should be easy to find in terms of the correct info for your exact car). An audible low-fuel warning signal at 50, 25, and 10 miles remaining. One for tire pressure also and perhaps engine temp and oil pressure.

2. What's not necessary, but would be nice ... a soft ride switch to tune the suspension system for less bone jarring on bad roads.

3. What should be removed, if anything ... the agree button on the GPS boot screen. I know, litigators are lurking.

Uphill is easy, downhill not so. Does Nissan apply downshifting or braking or both? Just curious. I recently returned from a 3,000 mile trip with my Genesis sedan and found the CC easy to use and up to my expectations. I did descend some 5+% grades and did have to tap the brake a few times. I traveled through VA, WV, PA and a few other states with serious hills.

I'm not sure, I just never payed nay attention to it. I could feel a restraining force going down steep grades. There were some grades through the mountains were I dad to tap the brakes. I still have the Infiniti and I'll check the next time I drive it.

My biggest problem is the loss of speed beginning a grade of any degree. Just a mole hill will cause the loss of 2MPH and a regular hill will always result in the loss of three and sometimes four MPH. Because the cruise always returns to the set speed( in its own sweet time), shows me that it should be a simple fix.
