  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Steps to making a better Hyundai Genesis

When i unlock the car with my key it would be nice if the seat went into my stored memory position prior to getting in. After my wive has used the car i have to "crawl" in and press the corresponding memory button to adjust it to my settings.

Actually, when she opens the door it goes to her "exit mode" [wheel up/seat back], but not enough for you to fit. I have same issue. Basic workaround is to hit your position button before you get in. This puts the seat in your "driving position" vs. your "exit position" , but at least it is more room than you wife's position.

ending a telephone call via the tech package could be made easier.
Instead of "down in menu" and then "end" a directly usuable end would be more conveniant (imho)

Just press the phone button on the wheel and hold it for 1 sec. ;)

definstely not necessary but:

-air suspension, "go from sport to luxury at the push of a button"

-ESC off would be huge

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Power trunk open and close like the BMW, Lexus,, etc.
Power door closers like the BMW where they "suck" in.
Proximity key needs to lock and unlock without pushing anything like my Corvette - walk up, doors opens, walk away, doors lock.
Cooled seat
Mud Flaps
Trunk lid drainage solved
Reclining heated and cooled rear seats
self adjusting cruise control
sync my Blackberry Phone book and E-Mail with the ability for the system to read the email through the speakers while I drive and perform rudimentary functions "reply", "send", "delete" using the blackberrys internet connection.

All in All, its a near perfect car and incredible for the money

1. Three blink turn signal technology – where a light tap of the lever in either direction blinks the lights three times before self-canceling for quick lane changes (ford, vw have this and I miss it)
2. Bi Xenon Headlights ,miss this from my VW too, (high beams on Genesis are Halogen)
3. Direct injection and 8 speed tranny and cylinder deactivation or put a V6 Diesel in it from the Audi TDI to get the mileage up to 30 MPG highway
4. Supercharger option on # 3 above if gas stays low cost (yeah right)
5. Better Nav system with link to bluetooth update my phone contacts
6. Headrest HD monitors in back seats with integrated Playstation 3 in dash for BlueRay and gaming options. (only costs $299) Lexus would be "Blue" with envy if you beat them to this upgrade! You could then wirelessly upgrade music files from your home wireless network to your car Playstation 3 harddrive (160GB) and have internet access in the car anytime you are near a wireless hotspot...( i added this to my Honda Odyssey - works great!!!!) This would also enable you to use a google earth database in your Nav that auto updates when in range of your home wireless network at night!
7. Make the Borrego with a diesel engine and make it a Genesis branded vehicle too.
8. Use the KDM logo on all sedans - add talons to the logo for the supercharged AWD Genesis.
9. AWD in the supercharged version.
10. LED every light in the car.
11. Add Huber Optik tint factory standard (love mine - have it on the all windows and the moonroof really works well)
12. Fold in mirrors on the Supercharged V8 with AWD
13. Hire a good corporate exec who can help you open up new channels for this brand (like me who is already a fan of this vehicle and been doing corporate strategy for 15 years)
14. Increase sales channel VOLUME - Get it up or this may be another Mazda Millenium...
15. Really explore Diesel Technology to beat the Germans market advantage here (Audi, MBUSA, BMW, VW are way ahead here) - This would also allow you to open up the European Market and kick them in their own backyard!
16. Did I miss anything - yes I did - keep the Genesis supercharged AWD model under $50K and I will buy one at the end of my lease.. so get moving John Krafcik and have this ready for April 8th 2011!
17. I love my Genesis 4.6, but I strive for excellence and best value.

1. Three blink turn signal technology – where a light tap of the lever in either direction blinks the lights three times before self-canceling for quick lane changes (ford, vw have this and I miss it)
The 2010 model apparently has added this feature.
13. Hire a good corporate exec who can help you open up new channels for this brand (like me who is already a fan of this vehicle and been doing corporate strategy for 15 years)
They already have, and he's the reason why they've done as much with the Genesis marketing as they have:

http://www.forbes.com/2009/12/21/marketer-of-year-cmo-network-joel-ewanick.html

Came from Lexus that is interesting...

I love how they update little things every year.

Fix the ESC system so it doesn't drop the engine power to nothing when the wheels slip while turning.

Just about everything that I want in the Genesis is already available in the Genesis - just in other markets. Hyundai if you are reading this please allow the US/Canada market to have access to the features that you've already made available elsewhere. Here is just a sample of what can be had in the international version of the Genesis:

1. Heated steering wheel
2. Heated and cooled passenger seat
3. Heated and cooled rear seats
4. Reclining rear seats
5. Air suspension
6. Driver adjustable suspension settings
7. Front blindspot camera
8. Rear seat HVAC and audio controls
9. Puddle lamps in folding side mirrors

Here is a link to the international brochure of the Genesis:

http://worldwide.hyundai.com/e_brochure/Genesis/Genesis_GEN_LHD Cata.pdf

It wouldn't take much to allow US/Canadian dealerships to let their customers order these features in an a`la carte manner, or just create a luxury package that includes everything while keeping the price in the low to mid $50K range. A fully loaded Genesis should be able to give a loaded Lexus LS460 or 5-series BMW a run for their money in the technology/features department while undercutting them by several thousand dollars.

I would like to see more small storage places for the driver. For instance, my Sonata had a small change flip-out bin by my left knee. It was not there on my Azera or my Genesis and I miss it.

Not being a smoker, I wish the compartment where the lighter resides would be larger and the lighter socket relocated somewhere else. The compartment could extend further forward, under the center stack.

1. What's needed
- allow the keyfab to work while the engine's running. If I get out and the passenger door's locked, the keyfab or button on the door no longer works. I have to physically walk back around the car and manually unlock it.
- adjustable foot pedals or manual "seat exit" button for when the engine's running. I have short legs, and have to sit close to the steering wheel, making it cramped to get out if I need to run into the house real quick.

2. What's not necessary, but would be nice
- "cooled" passenger seat as well...
- adjustable heights for passenger seats
- 12v outlet for rear passengers also, so that the center console doesn't always have to be open if someone were to use the plug-in.
- adpative cruise control on/off button much similar to the adaptive headlights on/off. I can't stand how far it keeps the car back.
- remote start as an option
- paddle shifters as an option for say an "S" model as mentioned above with a sportier suspension (stiffer coils / thicker sway bars / etc...)

3. What should be removed, if anything
- can't think of anything right now.

The European brochure shows alot of stuff I would like in the US/Canadian import version-
*Electronic Selectable CDC Shock damppening- would prevent all the suspension complaints!
*Front camera
*Power Trunk

OK-Question- does your car have "pinch" protection on your windows? I don;t belive mine does- my son had his fingers test the window sometime back with OUCH results. The European brochure shows it does. Different feature again? Strange they would have different window motors.

Go to your settings in the Navi....I forget where exactly without doing it myself, but the point is you can change thet setting so when you start the car the seat and steering wheel will go your saved memory position and will reverse this when shut off.

I belive it's called "easy access"

But it's only when you shut the car off. Perhaps I didn't make myself clear. When the car is running and I want to run inside, an "exit" button would make it easier.

Gotcha! I misunderstood:)

:welcome:Those are all good points you mentioned, folks.

Here are a few that were not yet mentioned. missed, whose omission surprised/annoyed me. In many cases, I spent money outside of the dealership to fix the indicated omissions. In a few cases, it was too costly or impractical for me as a buyer to do so.

1. Add daytime running lights (standard!).

2. Have turning signals visible to driver when he/she looks at the side mirrors.

3. Add more technology to the packages. Simply go to any Ford Dealer and see what they provide in their mid range cars (like their hybrid sedan for $10K less than a Genesis). Most should be in basic packages, some are in option packages (side impact warning proximity detector, adaptive cruise control, ability to plug in a hard drive for really large music and video libraries), etc.

4. Better than "meets minimum" quality carpet in passenger compartment and trunk. Also put a reinforced rubber "heel rest" on the drivers side floor mat for the right foot (otherwise carpet will wear out at that point).

5. Better than "meets minimum" sun visors and sun visor mirrors. Also, add a 2nd visor on both sides, to allow you to shade both the front and side windows at the same time.

6. Add a quieter, smoother transmission (esp. at low speeds). Either get one that meets/beat the basic Toyota or GM car's smooth shifting, or go to a CVT.

7. Turn off 2 or 4 cylinders to save gas at appropriate cruising speeds.

8. Opera lights over the shoulders of rear seat passengers, designed not to affect the driver's night vision (ie, don't light the whole compartment, just the book the rear seat passenger is reading).

9. Make the wing badges standard on every car, don't force the buyer to get them in the aftermarket (hood, trunk, air bag, wheels, etc.). I bought mine in the aftermarket, and they were not too expensive, and look great!

10. Provide bright metal (stainless steel?) covers for the external B pillars. I bought mine in the aftermarket, and they were not too expensive, and look great!

11. Provide lighted door sill (Hyundai logo) even on 6 cylinder cars (too darned expensive to add as aftermarket feature).

12. Wood trim steering wheel should be readily available on higher priced 6 cylinder car (too darned expensive to add as aftermarket feature).

13. Upgrade the acoustic fabric you use on the ceiling and sun visors - it works great, but looks like canvas, not luxurious at all.

14. Have "free service for the 1st year (oil changes, car wash). This will get people in to the shop, and cause them to return year after year. (Also, they'll look at the new Hyundai while waiting, which might sell a few more cars).

15. A louder horn. If practical, a two level sound - one for city, one for highway..

16. A better wind dam for the sun roof. Although pretty good, the present set up still allows wind into the car when the roof is back.

17. A door remote with more range. I almost have to be less than 40' from my car in order to have it receive the signal. That's not much use when trying to locate your car in a large parking lot, or when using the alarm to call for help if assaulted 100' from the car in a parking lot.

18. An attractive, conservative rear deck spoiler or lip, perhaps built in to the trunk lid, instead of being bolted on. I haven't seen an exciting spoiler anywhere for the Genesis.

19. (Not a design thing, but a marketing ploy)- have a "trade up" incentive for existing owners to trade up to a higher level car. For example, to get loyal Genesis owners to move to the Equus, Sonata owners to move to the Genesis, etc. This assures "Hyundai-friendly" owners become early adopters of new cars/models... and those are the folk you want to be praising new Hyundai designs to their peers.

20. Pay customers (like you and me) for providing so much feedback and design/redesign information and suggestions in this forum. Perhaps give us employee pricing on our next Hyundai.
Now I REALLY like that last idea!:D

You can self-register for Hyundai ThinkTank and then get the code and link to the Hyundai Associate Purchase Program, which is:
* Dealer Invoice
* Less 3% of MSRP
* Less Current Consumer Rebate (if any)
* Less Applicable Dealer Rebate or Incentive (if any)
* Plus Freight
* Plus Advertising Fee

...
- adjustable foot pedals or manual "seat exit" button for when the engine's running. I have short legs, and have to sit close to the steering wheel, making it cramped to get out if I need to run into the house real quick.
...

Just use the second memory button as the "Exit" button.

Needed:

Adjustable air suspension (possibly the only way to please all buyers)
Sync-like voice recognition system
6-8 way power adjustable passenger seat w/ optional cooling
Factory-installed remote start system
Sport package w/ 19" wheels, a thick 3 spoke steering wheel, aluminum pedals, and more supportive seats
Better dealership experience :)

Nice:

AWD
A bit more interior detailing (color center gauge display, a thin band of chrome trim around the door armrests ala Equus, real wood trim)
Power open/close trunk
8 speed auto (yes, I know it's coming)
Panoramic sunroof
Another 25-35 hp (gotta keep up with the M37/56)

Not needed

???

OK-Question- does your car have "pinch" protection on your windows? I don;t belive mine does- my son had his fingers test the window sometime back with OUCH results. The European brochure shows it does. Different feature again? Strange they would have different window motors.

From the 2009 Owner's Manual:
Automatic reversal
If the upward movement of the window is blocked by an object or part of the body, the window will detect the resistance and will stop upward movement. The window will then lower approximately 11.8 in. (30 cm) to allow the object to be cleared. If the window detects the resistance while the power window switch is pulled up continuously, the window will stop upward movement then lower approximately 1 in. (2.5 cm). And if the power window switch is pulled up continuously again within 5 seconds after the window is lowered by the automatic window reversal feature, the automatic window reversal will not operate.

✽ NOTICE
The automatic reverse feature for the driver’s window is only active when the “auto up” feature is used by fully pulling up the switch. The automatic reverse feature will not operate if the window is raised using the halfway position on the power window switch.

WARNING
Always check for obstructions before raising any window to avoid injuries or vehicle damage. If an object less than 0.16 in. (4 mm) in diameter is caught between the window glass and the upper window channel, the automatic reverse window may not detect the resistance and will not stop and reverse direction.

All those caveats seem to explain why it may appear that the feature works only sporadically.

The addition of power folding outside mirrors would be great.
A cooled passenger seat.
Heated seats for the rear.
AWD option.
Customer service training for those dealerships/ salesmen that dont measure up when the customer satisfaction surveys are completed.
