  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Stinger 3.3T recall, think it will apply to G70 3.3Ts?

Good point, I do wonder about a complete break though. If it was a small leak that I could monitor, that would be one thing. But I wonder if failure is typically sudden. Crazy that mine is close to 4 years (not driven hard or much) and yet I'm getting it done. I have couple of weeks to cancel though. Arghhhh!
From what I have read, less than 100 warranty repairs were made prior to the issuance of the recall. Basically small leak and smoking. No fires or accidents reported.

I did hear about 80 some incidents, but no idea as to the repair figures.

Although if it caused a breakdown and as inconvenient as that may be, I would be better off having AAA Premium flatbed the car 100 miles to dealer at no cost to me. Then I would not have to spend 2 hours driving there and 4 hours for repair and another 2 hours driving back. Would just take my wife and the other car to pick it up when repair is complete.

Haven't they already done quite a few? Stingers were recalled a bit ago. Apparently this repair is less intrusive than what they used to do.
I think the Kia recall was announced a bit before the Genesis one came out, but I believe the special tool that's req'd and the recall part kit were released to both Genesis & Kia dealers at the same time. I think there's been a few that have had it done in the last week or two though for both brands.

From the examples on the Kia site it seems like it's a leak that can be noticed from smoke rising from the exhaust manifold, and dripping down to the splash shield. That braided steel section of the failed pipe seems to be the culprit so I'd imagine this would be something that would slowly break down rather than a catastrophic failure, but???

Would be nice if Kia dealer could do a Genesis recall... Same engine. 3.3 tt

Agree with those here that the process is very involved and tedious at best. Lots of potential for the dealer to screw up something, make a mess of things or just not return the engine compartment to exact original condition. I’m always impressed when I change oil and have my G70 on my lift and remove the lower plastic chassis cover how clean and tidy the engine stays. Design wise everything is neatly installed, protected where needed and still looks virtually new. Dealer mechanic gets in there who is under time constraints to make his time and money, it will never be the same. I have not yet inspected mine but may see if room exist to install a fire sleeve used on aircraft engines around the oil pipe to provide some heat resistance to the area adjacent to the exhaust manifold. I’m at 18k miles, don’t thrash it, and at 4 1/2 years old so probably still a ways away from any heat related issues. I’m just too anal to have a dealer screw with this right now until it’s really needed…just the way I am.

Agreed!

Maybe, although I doubt they sold many Stingers w/ the 3.3T vs all the other Kias sold w/ motors that are quite a bit more "basic", vs. the Genesis line that has a lineup of much higher end type vehicles. Not sure I'd want to roll the dice there :)

I'm the same mindset, our 2019 Jeep Wrangler has a very small leak at the rear main seal, not even enough to cause any drips under the Jeep, just enough to keep the rubber inspection plugs a bit gooey. I'd much rather just run it as-vs. taking it in and have them get into the belly of the beast and try to put humpty dumpty back together again. I just consider this some extra seal lube, lol.
I'm on the fence right now regarding the recall, no need at the moment to have to rush to get it done.

Curious for those not taking it in....Do you plan on getting it done before you sell it? I ask since with all the monitoring available, most buyers would know if there are open recalls on the vehicle. And I suspect that may impact the sale.

Speaking for myself, I will likely get it done at some point but not now and not until I get some history on success of the repair. No intention of selling anytime soon.

X2 ^^^

Mines going in Wednesday for the repair. I'll be your guinea pig. Turns out bad I'm one step closer to getting my next vehicle an M4 Competition.
Look forward to hearing how it went, I'm sure they'll handle that just fine.

Will await your report.

Since this is a recall we are not under time constraints or dates so if not corrected prior to selling, not sure it would affect value for new owner can still get the repair done for free I assume. I wish I could find a dealer willing to let me help the technician for free and be his bitch so I can keep a close eye on things but know that would never be allowed.

Looks like my recall is coming in the mail today. If anyone is running a JB4, you think i can keep the OBD cord tucked down hidden before I bring it in? I would hate the take everything out. its all nicely ziptied :(.
I have mine scheduled for June 4th and am in the same boat as you. I wonder if I can keep the JB4 OBD cable hidden without having to fully take it out.

True, but would you rather buy one that had the recall taken care of or still needed to be performed?

I talked to my dealer. Guy was cool about it but said that they have to take pictures and send to Genesis so he told me I should just take it out.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll be sure to remove it all before taking it in.
