  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I plan to leave my car in the driveway for the three winter months. I thought I'd disconnect the battery ground cable in the trunk. Then I'm thinking, 'how do I get back into the trunk if I have no battery'? I don't remember there being a manual opening device. I know there must be a way without locking myself out. Any help?
Thanks
Dick

the trunk is keyed.. look up under that ledge to the left of the touch release pad..

note: make sure that lock works.. my froze up or something, the key will not insert...

Simply use your pull out key from the fob and open the trunk.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Fill the tank, put in some Stabil, and hook the battery to a Battery Tender. Should wake right up next spring.

No need to disconnect the battery, the car has a Master fuse that allows to you "throw" it, bascially pull it out. Open the drivers door and on the dash remove the fuse panel, and it's the one with the yellow plastic.

I have my car stored now for winter, and I just put sea foam in a full tank, and put a trickle charger on the jumping posts under the hood and put the car cover on it. I also park on cardboard on all tires, so they aren't sitting on the concrete all winter.

I posted this in the lounge by mistake.

Use the pull-out key in the keyfob to open the trunk/doors

Have been through this with the BMW 850 recently. The key would not turn in the steering column in order to turn the engine off. I had to disconnect the batteries (yes there are two of them) in order to turn off the electrical equipment after pulling the fuel pump fuse to turn the engine off. Once I closed the trunk I couldn't open the trunk again (trunk lock is electric).

Scratched my head for a while and decided to hook up some jumper cables. With the jumper cables attached the trunk would open. Luckilly I had not locked the doors before removing the battery cables.

$1700 and change to have a new lock put in the steering column.

Never keep a BMW beyond the expiration of the warranty. I think I have paid for it three times.

Although I have a Ford Explorer and a Doge Ram P/U (both 4 wheel drive)
no need for winter tires on Genesis, I will still drive it most of the winter.
It will only sit for probably 14 to 20 days total. I also start and drive all cars at least twice a month to ensure proper functioning.
I never pull the battery on any of my cars.
