  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was headed down to Montgomery, Alabama a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday from Ohio. It was right at 100 degrees F that day. On I-65 about 45 miles north of Montgomery and 550 miles into the trip, the tach goes to zero, the lights come on the dash and the car dies, coasting to a stop. I tried to start a few times. No dash codes shown. The car would run very rough a few seconds then die. I probably tried to restart a dozen times without success. My wife and I called Hyundai road side assistance. Two and a half hours later the tow truck came and towed the car to the local Montgomery Hyundai dealer. They were just closing by that time, but gave me a loaner car. We ended up staying the weekend so that the car could be looked at Monday morning.

The dealer took the car in Monday morning and kept all day. I called a few times as they worked on the car. Trouble starting in the morning, very rough running. Midway through the diagnostic, the car miraculously began running smoothly again. The dealer then said no ECU error codes, and no problem found. As a result, I was told to come pick up the car. I ended driving the car home thinking it would quit the whole way, and it fortunately ran fine. They gave me the service report with a long list of items checked, but they found nothing. I know problems don't fix themselves. At this point I will just drive it until another problem. I know they rebooted the ECU and even swapped a couple of parts out of new cars to see if the original issue could be sorted. Still they found nothing.

Anyone else had this type of issue?

Boo's to Roadside Assistance who were friendly but somewhat full of guano with what they said and promised on the phone. Two and a half hours on the interstate in 100 degree heat. Geez. Kudos to Montgomery Capital Hyundai who gave me the loaner car and (at least) tried their best to find the problem.

I swear someone on here reported a similar issue, right down to the long wait for Roadside Assistance. Sounds like some wiring/electrical issue. Like something isn't quite 100% connected or grounded. Keep in mind, I'm not that mechanical so I'm probably way off base. :)

Good luck and keep us posted.

When I picked my Genesis up from the dealer there was a customer there and she had the same exect description but for a Sonata. Mechanics were just stumped and wished her luck, but nothing else could be done.

Geesh, that's a bummer! I hope all remains well. Gotta love those intermittent bugs that crop up at the most inopportune times.

Good luck!
