  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Lately I've been having issues with the trans shifting properly. I'll give steady gas to accelerate from a stop and the transmission kicks like hell when shifting through gears 1-3. It's like it gets stuck in neutral for too long before engaging the next gear. And of course while it's in neutral the RPMs shoot up. Then it engages and kicks like hell.
Here's a short clip of what's happening

I took the car to the dealer about a month ago for routine maintenance and mentioned this issue to them and they claim they were unable to replicate the issue. I drive the car every single day and this happens without fail. So I called bullshit and they had me come in to take a drive with a tech. And like magic the issue is gone..
A few weeks later it has returned. What gives?
Is this a common issue?

There is another whole thread about this, and if yours is doing what others is, and you're under warranty, then you'll be soon getting your transmission replaced at Hyundai's expense.

Sounds like exactly the same issue, but others here who have had their transmission replaced can definitely say.

Is your Genesis a 2012-2014?

Yea. 2013.
Dealer can't replicate the issue. What can I tell them to be sure they can?

I bought the car certified used from a hyundai dealer with an extended warranty. So I should be ok to have this covered.

Show them the video, that should help. I would certainly hope so. That is definitely not normal, mine hasn't done that, but if it did I would try to get a video recorded of it via my iPhone and take it in with the video too.

Just wondering, how many miles are your Genesis?

Dean
I'll definitely show them the video. I'm going to take some more footage incase a single won't be enough to convince them. I have a feeling it won't ;)
My Genny has just about 65k on the odometer.

Dropped my car off at the dealer yesterday and took a drive with a service advisor. He noticed the rough shifting and kicking issues. He said the transmission probably just needed to be flushed. I showed him the video and he got a bit more concerned. He told me the tranny would getting a full evaluation.
Today I got a call from the dealer and I'm getting a new trans covered under extended warranty. :)
I'm just glad the dealer is finally addressing this ongoing issue.

Same issue with my 2013 with only 36k

I took it to my local dealership and they said the same thing, can't reproduce it the problem. Granted, it doesn't happen every time so it appears I just have to wait until it gets really bad.

I personally believe Hyundai service advisers know of this issue with these model cars.
All 4 of my trips to the dealer the service adviser would down play the issues I'd describe to them and make them seem like they weren't a big deal.
Like they thought I was lying to them.
Nothing I could tell them would make them show even the slightest bit of concern.
Even when I told them that while on the highway the car got stuck in between gears and I had to pull over and bring the car to a stop so it would reset to 1st gear.
They avoided my issue like the plague.. Unbelievable these guys... (Napleton's Valley Hyundai, Aurora IL)
Up until I demanded to take a ride with a service adviser and provided video evidence that is.
Then they changed their tune, and in a hurry.
I'm convinced they know of the issue and will not acknowledge it until it becomes so bad that it becomes a safety issue. ($$$$$$$ )

The failing trans will have good days and bad days (at least mine did).
On a bad day make all attempts to get to the dealer and take a ride with a tech or service adviser as quickly as possible.
That way they can experience the issues as they happen and not give you the runaround about "not being to replicate the issue".

Good luck man ;)

Yeah, I went thru that with my 2012. It took a few trips to the dealer, but it gradually got bad enough that it wasn't a problem to demonstrate it to the technician, and shortly after that I got a new transmission, which has provided me about 45K trouble-free miles so far.
