I don't normally leave Florida in the winter and this year, I really don't want to leave because of all the snow and COLD where I go.
1. Got a call from my best friend (shipmate) and other friends in Roswell, who told me that they got 6 to 8 inches of snow last night (Feb 22-23). Ruidoso, where I often go also got hit. Also saw that Dallas/Fort Worth had a lot of snow. Would not want to drive out to Roswell with all that snow on the ground in North/West Texas and Eastern New Mexico.
2. I sometimes get called to go to Penfield (Rochester) for family emergencies, and the've had a lot of snow this winter, plus the roads on my way there have been hit hard with snow. Glad I've not been called up there this winter. If I had to go today, I'd do one of two things. (A) Either take the Continental which is great in the snow, or (B) go out and buy new M&S (DWS) Tires for the Genesis, and take that. Glad everyone in the family is doing good. Will go up in May as all the snow SHOULD be melted by then.
The last three times I got caught in bad weather was (A) last December when I went to Roswell, they had snow on the ground from a big storm.
(B) two Decembers ago, when returning to Florida from Roswell, hit a BIG snowstorm between Jackson MS and Hattiesburg MS. (C) a couple years ago, I got called to Penfield for a family emergency in late November, Thanksgiving time. It not only snowed, but when I left, there was Black Ice on the road. Took it easy in the Continental, and made it ok. Normally (non emergency) I go in October and make it a point to be out of there no later than November
3rd, because it always seems that the first snow up there is between November 3rd and 11th.
