That looks like it was blown out, maybe high cabin pressure I don't know I'm not a scientist but def interesting to see why it did that, or what set of circumstances made that happen.
Mine shattered during a hailstorm.
The glass measured out with a micrometer at 1/6 inch - not much
I've never used the sunroof on my cars and that may be why I don't have noise probs.
My sun roof exploded today 6/28/18 while I was in the interstate. The noise scared me to death! I’m very thankful that it was closed or I would have been injured.
No I was just cruising down the road in no real hurry and bam! A loud noise came out of no where. I didn’t know what to make of it. I was so shaken up and on the verge of tears as I was alone. To be honest I’m a little frightened myself when they do fix it that it will happen again. The material on the roof is not a good barrier and I’m lucky the glass did not go down where I was sitting.Jesus, glad your okay first of all. But do you recollect anything out of the ordinary before it went? I have my sunshade open all the time now I'm scared.

I had the AC on 73 inside the car on medium and it was approximately 93 degrees outside.Wow, that is crazy! Was it really hot out with AC on low or anything try to see if there is any correlation to all the ones that have exploded.
Just happened to me this weekend. Got in the car, closed the door normally, heard a “pop” and the sunroof shattered... glass all through the headliner. Will await Hyundai reaction.Bought new genesis 3.8 ultimate on 11/30/15. Was driving on the expressway on Saturday 1/16/16 around 5:20pm when there was a loud noise, the wind started to shake the headliner, and little pieces of glass started to fall in the passenger compartment. We stopped and realized that our sunroof had exploded. The outside temperature was around 30 degrees, and we were driving at about 65 miles per hour.
Called the dealer on Monday 1/18 and was told that it would take one week to get a replacement sunroof, called again on Friday 1/22 and was told replacement is scheduled to arrive on Tuesday 1/26. Car cannot be driven and is sitting in our garage. We hope the repair will be covered by the warranty. According to the internet, there is a class action suit against Hyundai about other Hyundai models having this problem, I found only one other posting about this happening to a Genesis 2015.
I don't hate them but find the fairly useless. Most of the summer the shade is closed. The glass is never opened. I just think it is part of the cost to drive an ultimate but could do without it.I would think that this would be covered by insurance. They cover windshields.
When I leased my 2018 G80 the first thing on the want list was NO SUNROOF. It narrowed
it down to a base car. Did I want a base car? NO. Did I want an ultimate? YES. What did I end up with? the base. I hate sunroofs that much. If I wanted to see the sky while driving I would have a convertible with either a folding hard top or a cloth top. I just wish Genesis would realize not every one wants a $2000.00 piece of glass over their heads when driving.
I read this same article yesterday from another source. They mentioned that Ford and BMW also had complaints, but it was left out here. This is in News for multiple hyundai cars
‘They need to do something about this’: More exploding Hyundai glass complaints
