If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Sunroof Rattle

Well, after talking to corporate, I am in the process of arbitration with Hyundai. My car was in at the dealer for 4 months, sunroof replaced, and still had the noise. The gentleman that I spoke with prior to filing a complaint with an attorney told me it was a known problem with no fix. He stated that the Hyundai resolution team would contact me in 48 hours. Well, a week later and no call I called them and he said although my car was returned to the dealer for repair within the first 12 months I was over 12,000 miles (12,483 to be exact) and they were not willing to offer a resolution. Once I told him I would contact an attorney e stated that our discussion was over and hung up.

I now have a deposition with their attorney in January and arbitration set for March. My issue is they don;t stand behind a known issue. I even told them if they buy my 2015 back or pay it off I would purchase a G90 without the panoramic roof to avoid the noise. They would rather go to arbitration.

Car is been in the shop over 5 months total of the past 10 months. The last trip the dealer said that their is no fix and even noted so on the repair order. The will no longer attempt to fix until Hyundai informs them of a fix.

This is my 2nd Genesis, my first was a 2013 and I probably would of already purchased the G80 sort or a G90 by now if Hyundai would of addressed my issue satisfactorily, in my opinion. Once you admit it is a known issue it should of been addressed.

I will not be purchasing another Hyundai or Genesis again due to this.

Yup - I believe that the Hyundai Genesis sedan has either a defective pano roof or just plain crap build quality - neither of which they appear have any clue how to actually fix. Who ever heard of having to replace entire sunroof assemblies on brand new vehicles? Sometimes multiple times! I went through 2 G2's (2015 & 2016) with persistent rattling pano roofs (and other quality issues that were resolved - but should not have existed in a supposed luxury vehicle to begin with) and would not ever consider a Hyundai vehicle again after those experiences. It looks like PA lemon law is pretty restrictive versus NJ so good luck as HMA can be challenging to deal with.

I can understand that. I just don't understand while you still hang around her. Considering a 2018 because you would really like to have one?

You seem to have a big problem when anyone questions the design quality or build quality of the Genesis. Are you trying to get rid of Nikgen?

This thread alone has 641 Replies, and 123,881 Views. It a pervasive defect for which Hyundai seems to have no good solution for.

You seem to have a reading comprehension problem. I just asked him a question I asked nothing of you.

Well, I think its time to take mine in, the front seal is separated too.

Who is the "her" you are referring to? In any event, I don't "hang around here" - I was subscribed to some threads like this one and get alerts. As I have first hand experience with the crap pano roof defect (multiple times), I like to share my experience so others can learn and be aware of this potentially big issue with the Genesis/G80.

And I have no desire to buy a 2018 Genesis given my experience with the poor build quality, design flaws, mediocre materials and switch gear and bad dealership/service experience with my 2015 and 2016 vehicles. Maybe they'll figure it out in a few years but, at present, there are big tradeoffs that come with the lower price. I paid quite a bit more for my new Audi S5 Sportback, but it's obvious why when you drive it - it's league's better in every way: absolutely no comparison.

Be persistent - my 2015 took several attempts to actually fix this (2016 never developed the seal peel issue in the 21 months I owned it). Dealer tried to tell me it was not a big issue as the sunroof drains any water that gets past the seal...

I'd ignore that - As you said, he just doesn't like negative comments on the G2... wait, did i just agree with you? :)

Yea, booked a visit we will see how they handle this.

Hi Everyone,

I was looking at the sunroof and noticed the seals on our car seem to be degrading. do you think this contributes to the noise? Are these warranty items?

Hello everyone, just following up on this to say they replaced a few of my seals (one of them is a wrap-around U shaped seal so it covers 3 sides) but I was very surprised to see that after replacement the seals did not seem to run the entire length of the glass. For example, the U-shaped seal wraps around the large sunroof glass that is closer to the rear of the car, so the tracks for it run all the way to the back of the glass. The replacement seal was short by 1-2 inches on either side, leaving the track open/exposed.

Let me make it clear that I don't think the mechanic or the shop tried to cheat me, it just seemed very odd. They told me the seals should be the right ones because they ordered them via the VIN number but I pointed out that every other genesis on the lot does not have this issue. The seals are flush with the entire length of the track and do not have any shortfall. They re-ordered the strips for me and will install again when they arrive.

I'm just very puzzled by this.......I'll get some better photos later but here's a quick one that I took.

I'd say that seal was likely just manufactured incorrectly and cut an inch short of what it should be:cautious:

I've got a very slight "creak" in my pano roof, only seems to happen when the shade is open. Looks like I've got some reading to catch up on in this thread, LOL.

I want to take mine in to get squeaks and pops fixed, but it scares me to death thinking about how much these techs have to tear apart THEN try to piece back together to fix. So many possibilities of errors and we know how some shops don't seem to care about how the final repair looks, meaning might leave behind grease stains on fabric, or don't get panels to line up same as when car was new etc.

That is my concern each time, when I got the pano seals done they forgot to re hook the two accordion looking pieces under the front sliding glass, and left some grease spots, they did do an interior detail once I brought it up and I fix the other stuff. You really need to do your part and recognizing what could break and check all that before you get your car back and if its not satisfactory bring it up and have them fix it.

UPDATE FULL ROOF REPLACEMENT. The weather stripping along the roof line drivers side has torn twice since the repair was made.

I have had this happen twice to mine too.

Got the Hyundai Sunroof Class Action Lawsuit paperwork yesterday for my 2015. Looks like Hyundai has extended the warranty for the sunroof on the chance it explodes.

I've had 3 cars with a pano roof but got four letters so far. I guess the lawyers get paid by the number of people they contact. They also have my new address after two of those cars were traded.

I could hear the pano roof creaking when going over certain bumps or rough roads. Cleaned the seals that the glass makes contact with when closed then lubed them up with some silicone grease (not spray). Been quiet since.
