If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Sunroof Rattle

Mine creaks. Not really a rattle. But it has the same symptoms as described here.

Same. Mine is a creak over road imperfections that only happens when the glass is closed.

If you press the long plastic strips that run alongside the sunroof (outside on roof) by the front moving roof panel you'll find they creak quite a bit - I think this is at least part of the cause. I've also heard rattles as well - I think that might be related to the mechanism that rolls up the roof sunshades. Unfortunately, due to business travel, I have not been able to drop mine off at the dealer to assess yet, but I fear a design/materials flaw which may not be easily fixed? It's a shame as it is the only real flaw I've found with thid car - but it is quite annoying and NOT ok on a $50K car!

Well, the problem still isn't solved. I received a call from the Service Manager saying they'll need my car until Monday most likely. They've dropped the headliner and are still trying to isolate where the creaking is coming from. Sigh...

We've started getting a rattle in the sunroof but it's when it's open, not closed. Totally silent when closed, but when fully open there's a rattle that sounds kinda light - like a piece of plastic or something fluttering when we hit a bump. If I close the roof just an inch or so it almost totally eliminates the noise.

Day 5 and still no fix. The dealership has isolated the noise from a certain trim piece, but unfortunately, they have to order an entire panoramic sunroof because apparently it's a part that can't be ordered seperately. That will arrive next week, most likely. Thankfully, I get to pick up my car today to drive in the meantime.

From what I can figure by reading past posts there are quite a few sunroof noise problems, but I seem to be the only one with a problem when the roof is fully open. If I even close it just an inch from fully open most of the rattle stops. It seems like a little tension on the accordian seals is enough to stop the noise. I'm VERY reluctant to take the car in for service on a problem that nobody else is experiencing so I guess I'll wait til spring in hopes that a TSB or two will show up.

The good news is that the sunroof problems seem to be the only ones anyone is having. For a completely new platform, IMO that's remarkable!

PS: A little over 6K miles here - anyone else have a similar problem?

I know the 2015 is a completely different body than the previous generations, but one has to periodically lubricate the edge of the sunroof where it meets the body on previous models (at least that was the case with both my 2010 and my 2012). But that was more of a squeak than a rattle.

I continue to have issue with my roof. At times it is really loud, but always annoying. It goes away if i tilt open or fully open the roof.

The annoying bit is, on my 5th visit to the service center, I took 2 techs (tech lead and roof expert) on a drive and not a single sound. Infact, I drove them to my apartment building where I am guaranteed a sound when coming out of the driveway; and for the first time I got nothing to show!

I remembered one of the techs at the beginning of our test drive sat in the back and punched the border of the roof from the inside at multiple places. I figured that may have fixed whatever was loose. Sadly, the sound returned the following morning.

It's so frustrating. The car is only 3 months old with only 4,000 KMs on it and I have already been to the service center 5 times!

My only rattle is the buckle on the passenger seat belt bumping the B-pillar on severe road irregularities. I'm tempted to glue a bit of padding where the buckle rides when not in use. At first, I thought it was the sunroof, but it only happens when I am solo.

I wonder if the weight of the two additional techs affected the vehicle mechanics enough that it eliminated the rattle? Do you think it would be useful to make a recording of the rattle?

I thought about it. But I figured it wasn't the case because I've had a full car before and still heard it. Also, I took another trip down my driveway right after they left to see if the sound returned, and it didn't. I did make a video recording of it 2 months ago with the rattling sound. Thankfully remembered and showed it to the techs so I didn't look stupid.

That was my very first thought when I heard right after my purchase 3 months ago. But that was quickly ruled out when my wife sat in the passenger seat (and her seat buckled ofcourse) and rattle continued.

Any updates on resolving this issue?

My concern would be body flexing. 3 seated might prevent it. The roof is the major structural component in a unibody construction.

As someone that's on the fence of buying the car, this does not inspire confidence at all.

In addition to the rattle, we have at least one instance of shattered sunroof. Hyundai Veloster and Kia Sorento had problems with sunroof shattering as well.

Me too. I wonder if there is a way to order all options with 6 cylinder, but no sunroof. I live in Los Angeles and with temps running frequently over 100 I have no need for a sunroof especially if it will introduce rattles or squeaks. I have a 2001 Avalon (no sunroof), and a 2005 Maxima (sunroof). No rattles or squeaks. I would hate to get a new 50K car and have that issue.

No - if you want all options, you get the sunroof. The only model that doesn't have a sunroof is the base car with none of the 3 option packages.

Have a new 3.8 Ultimate and started hearing the same squeaking. At first if I opened and closed the sunroof it would go away for a while. That is no longer the case. And the noise is getting more prevalent and louder. Since the car is so quiet it's really annoying. Decided it was time to schedule a service appointment for Tuesday. Hopefully they can fix it. They are giving me a loaner for the day but I'll miss my car for sure.

Totally agree with you on the loaner thing... I had to leave my car so the dealership could install the accessories that I got them to throw in with the purchase. They gave me an Azera for the day. Not sure how Hyundai see it as a the next step down from the Genesis. The new Sonata sounds like its a nicer car now. Anyhow, I really missed having my Genesis for the day. Talk about a huge difference in quality.

I know what you mean. The Azera is far from anything resembling the Genesis in any respect except it has some cool lights inside. :o

Was there not someone here who went out and bought the Azera claiming there was practically no difference with a Genesis?

FYI, I have no rattle issue yet, guess I'll knock on my dash :D and cross my fingers. Our roads here in Quebec must be the worst in North America so if there is rattle potential I am sure to see it.

Wonder if this has anything to do with build date? Most here have first run cars produced in early 2014. Anyone feel like making a poll with build dates to see if we can find a common denominator?

For the record my build date is July 10 2014. This info can be found on a sticker when opening the drivers door.
