If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi All,

I posted this already in the Sunroof thread but as I'm sure you can imagine that thread doesn't get a lot of attention anymore. I'm re-posting here because I feel it is different enough from the original thread (this is not about the creaking noise in the sunroof). If I have done wrong, I apologize.

Hello everyone, just following up on this to say they replaced a few of my seals (one of them is a wrap-around U shaped seal so it covers 3 sides) but I was very surprised to see that after replacement the seals did not seem to run the entire length of the glass. For example, the U-shaped seal wraps around the large sunroof glass that is closer to the rear of the car, so the tracks for it run all the way to the back of the glass. The replacement seal was short by 1-2 inches on either side, leaving the track open/exposed.

Let me make it clear that I don't think the mechanic or the shop tried to cheat me, it just seemed very odd. They told me the seals should be the right ones because they ordered them via the VIN number but I pointed out that every other genesis on the lot does not have this issue. The seals are flush with the entire length of the track and do not have any shortfall. They re-ordered the strips for me and will install again when they arrive.

I'm just very puzzled by this.......I'll get some better photos later but here's a quick one that I took.

Who was the mechanic? Was it the dealer or an independent shop?

Hi Mark, it was a Hyundai dealership. I generally have a positive view of the mechanic, the service rep and the service manager.

They must have ordered the wrong part. But it is pretty disgusting that they didn't notice the problem after it was installed, and figured you would just accept it.

To me it is not surprising based on my experience with Hyundai service - my Hyundai dealer thought this was OK when they replaced my peeling seal the first time:

When the other side looked as it was supposed to:

Raise a stink and escalate to HMA (if need be) and they will ultimately address it.

I'm wondering whats involved. looking at youtube videos, I don't see how that seal is replaced its always a full glass roof replacement.

buy just looking at the pano roof, i think you are right, it looks like a complete replacement.

Let us know when you get your car back!

oh man, if i had any sort of leaking in my car, i'd be at the dealership in a heart beat!!

Car is going in weds, I'm gonna see if I can get old and new comparison of the seal to see if there are any new changes as well as how good of a job they do.

Well, got called they are removing the glass to do the seals so we shall see how well this goes.

On a side note this 2018 looks to have the same seals as the ones that have issues with so we see what happens.

Quick update, they replaced the seal and had the exact same issue as this thread, it was quarter inch short on one side. I was informed that they are overnighting another seal and replace it tomorrow, I asked what if its the same they said they will contact distributor if the 2nd seal is still the same.

Will keep you guys updated, so far the service seems to be good where they didn't try and give me the car back and tell me that's how it is.

hopefully the next one will be the golden fit!

No call today, but from what I'm told that seal is held with 3m tape which is why most of us will have this issue, plus its cold out so getting that seal on is causing them real pain from what it sounds like. I told the guy to keep it as long as need it to make it right and he said he intended to do just that.

I guess i'll enjoy this 2018 for couple more days.
