  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I and a couple other Genesis owners have experienced the sunroof seel peeling from the posterior sunroof. Would be great to find out who else has experienced this issue, possibly the climate in which they own their car, the model of Genesis, and how it was fixed if Hyundai has done so already.

Thanks!

north Texas. never had this happen on any other pano roof car I've owned, including sister company Kia.

Just saw report of the problem in a "service with mileage" like post. Not the exact post name. And it was in another. Plus someone I have recently met in here who got his recently has had the problem. Goes back to dealer next week. He is in Midwest. This is becoming a trend. Wonder if I will see this happen too.

That post was also me. So maybe not such a trend. But i do know of one other person reporting issue, which brought the issue to my attention. So maybe three occurances so far according to this message board...

Ok. Have a feeling the few of you may grow to be more.

Talked with the dealership. They are having a "glass" guy looking at the situation this evening. The field rep doesn't get to the area till the tenth. "Glass" guy is going to report to the field rep and I should have more info tomorrow.

But I have a "Loaner" Thanks you Sonata!

Thanks for update. Keep is apprised please.

Sorry, no pictures... I should have taken some. But just image the seal peeling from the posterior glass and the seal is not uniform.

The "glass guy" mentioned in a previous post is going to fix it. They are ordering the part and a "special adhesive"... Part gets to the dealership next week and the "glass guy" is going to do the work. That's the fix.

I will let you know how it turns out. Until then, still the loaner car which Hyundai has no issues letting me have till completion of work. I can only keep my fingers crossed that it comes out well. The "glass guy" has experience with this sort of work because of the need to do this work to vehicles in accidents where this situation is more common in order to salvage the car.

When I pick up the car I will compare to other cars on lot thoroughly.

I was hoping to pick up my Genesis 5.0 today... Not going to happen.

The fix was subpar, and they are going to retry.

Before I picked up the car, I asked the rep to compare with other Genesis on the lot. My rep is very customer friendly and an amazing guy, so I do appreciate his service and honesty. Can't say enough about him and he will get an awesome review. This is a 50+ K car... Good reps are important!

Well... not surprisingly, some of the lot cars, when the sunroof opens and closes, you can see the tension on the seal increase. Most likely an issue waiting to hapen after some constant use of the Sunroof.

So when they do fix it again, might be only a temporary fix, until it happens again. The regional zone manager is coming today to look at the issue. I am interested to hear what he has to say...

Like I said previously, I love this car... But it's the small details that make you a repeat/long term HYUNDAI customer. I am beginning to lose a little faith in the Genesis. So much promise too!

yeah. I'm waiting to see what happens for you. guess I'm using you as a test subject, sorry. lol.

my seal is leaning more and more forward it seems.

to be honest I didn't have much faith in the "regluing" fix. I also believe this will happen to many, many other genesis owners not too long from now. I can see another recall for leaking sunroof/seal peeling in the future.

how they didn't know this in preproduction is beyond me. didn't they test this car...I mean damn look at all the small little piddle things that are being recalled for.

If this is a defect design, WTH? I agree, should have been caught. Great. Now will not open roof on any nice spring days until you guys have yours really fixed and they solve the issue without gorilla glue and tape.

I suspect the only permanent fix will be to replace the roof panel with a new re-engineered panel or hardware which will be very expensive for Hyundai since its a manufacturing/design defect.

I took pictures of my Sunroof today after I got done washing it. Is this what you are all talking about?

Funny thing is, I have only used my sunroof maybe 4 times since I bought the car and the last time I had it open was around Christmas time. Are any of you seeing an leaks inside your car?

I just checked mine and it looks like yours = doesn't look like it should be that way. I have had no leaks, but I fear we all may have a developing problem with the seal on this roof? Btw, I crack mine open (tilt) all the time (even in colder weather) and have had it open most of the time in nicer weather).

A little overly dramatic there....I suspect it just means we'll end up with a new seal with better adhesive?

Those pics are very telling. Seal is a mess. Thanks.

Your welcome. That is what this forum is all about. Helping each other with all things Genesis :D

That is exactly what I am talking about. See how it is peeling from the rear panel. One of my corners was really jacked up too!
