  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Surround sound does not stay selected for both FM and XM when both are selected at the same time. Is that normal?
It's a 2012 4.6.

I'm not following. How are both XM and FM selected at the same time?

The surround option is set independently for each source.

Sorry for being confusing. If I select FM and surround sound, then select XM and surround sound one of the mode choices "may" drop the surround sound choice, but will for certain, drop surround sound if I turn of the engine, for one of the modes..

I responded on another thread that the surround sound checked box remains checked for all audio options and does not have to be rechecked when I change from one audio source to another audio source.

I have the same problem in my 2012 3.8. I've also confirmed Tompass's observation that after turning the ignition off, surround sound setting returns to off for all modes except the one that was currently in use. I wonder if Hyundai has a fix for this.

Surround stays selected or non-selected in all modes for me. Seems like an firmware or software issue, which I think accounts for many of the AV problems that people report.

Actually my post states that selections for all modes, if checked, remain checked after turning off and restarting the car.

Ditto for my 3.8L. It's WONKY firmware that needs to be fixed.

:rolleyes:Win some….lose some. My 2011 never loses the surround setting but the “Left radio off and it came back on next start” is starting to increase in frequency. Don’t know which is worse. I guess not mine since I can just turn the radio off again (after 2 pushes on the power button).

Seems the radio on/off thing is very common. Many times now when radio comes on, I give the AV off command but it is ignored. With the radio remaining on, I have to give the AV on command and then the AV off command before it will go off. Very weird and you would think Hyundai could come up with a fix for this.

:D But the surround works damn good !

Sorry Tompass--my mistake. It was hwks1 that seems to have the same problem with his 2012 Surround Sound that I do. When turning the ignition off, Surround Sound reverts to off (unchecked) for all modes except for the mode that was current at the time. It stays checked. It gets frustrating.

I wonder why surround is not the default "on" as I think it sounds better on all signal sources. I as well need to re-check the surround box as it defaults to the off position each start of the ignition. Conversly the treble / mid /bass & previous volume & source settings stay as I selected. IMHO I do not think it is a glitch, but just the way it is programmed. An update would be nice.

Just over a month now and otherwise I am amazed and feel blessed everytime I push the start button. This car rocks my world! Putting opticoat sealent on this weekend and will say good bye to waxing permanently. Formula one 35% ceramic tint installed last tues.

It just doesn't make sense to me that you would intentionally program a system that allows the user to customize many audio settings to his personal preference, then have one of those settings revert to a default each time you start the car. So I do think it is a glitch. My 2009 never did this. Perhaps it is just an issue in the 2012's.

I took the car to the dealer for an oil change this week and showed them the surround sound problem. They called me later to say they are ordering a whole new audio unit to replace it. I was hoping a program update could take care of it. The unit is "backordered" and expected in a month. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Thanks for the link Seattle. Did the new audio head unit solve your problems?

Yep.. Brand new unit. No problems.

This is something they are terrible at. I have the same issue on my 2012 3.8 Tech. Drives me up a wall that i have to keep checking the Surround. And it should absolutely be on by default - that's the point of the upgraded system.
However, this is the same company that defaults the radio to Tuning mode when you turn the car on. The very definition of "Presets" means that this is the subset of stations I listen to, and it should be the default mode when switching to the Radio.

Its unclear to me how someone at Hyundai could make a living designing the interface of car radios and not get this. i mean, if your entire job is to understand the human interaction with car radios don't you think you could figure out proper defaults?

This entire DIS system is buggy and incomplete (no BT streaming, etc), and it sounds like it has been for years. It can't compare to others i've used (Audi) and the "Premium" touch screen system in the Hyundai's and Kia's.

HAHAHA I wonder if Wendall still works at HMA? He's the bafoon that tuned the 2009 suspension by the "seat of his pants" feeling....
