  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Suspension: Love it or Hate it?

How do you like your suspension on the 2009 Genesis?

I've had the Maxima just over a week now, so I can do a realistic "seat of the pants" evaluation. The Max has a firm, sporty ride and handles great. It is an absolute pleasure to drive. In no way can the ride be described as harsh like the Genesis. The same road imperfections that literally made a bang and a jolt in the Genesis are imperceptable in the Maxima. While I miss some of the Genesis features, I am not sorry I traded it for the Max.

My stomach isn't jello after driving it for an hour. There is no reason for a car to ride as harshly as the Genesis does, in order to be sporty. This absolutely proves (to me) that Hyundai have a LOT of work to do with the suspension. They should contract with Nissan, Honda or Lotus and get this sorted out ASAP.

If anyone is interested, I can give my opinions and pros and cons on a Maxima/Genesis comparison, for anyone who may be considering bailing out of their Genesis.

Well I for one am Not interested in a comparion thread. We have heard ALL that we can / want to know about the Genesis Suspension Suspension Suspension and Suspension... bottom line, its from an Individual Subjective perspective.. We Buy the car, if you're happy with the car fine, if Not, get rid of it.. no one here benefits from you keeping a car that you dont like.. Everyone should take the stress out of their lives.. Lots of post on this one issue.. if unhappy, GET RID of it and Dont keep talking about something you no longer have... No Stress.. my motto...

I guess it says a lot about Hynudai's Progress if WE actually expect their vehicle to ride/perform like ALREADY Established Luxury lines..

If you like the way a Cadillac CTS, Lexus GS, Infiniti M, BMW 5 or Audi rides, you'll like the Genesis ride.

If you like the way any Buick or Lexus LS rides, you'll not like the Genesis ride.

It is a Suspension thread, may I humbly suggest, If you don't want to hear about the suspension read one of the many other threads.

Those that don't like their suspension have it everyday and feel the problem everyday. Personally I am posting technical items about the suspension and providing factual data, that may help those that are trying to solve their problem now so they don't have to live with it another day, not one more bone jarring day.

That seems productive to me as compared to telling me to take a 5 to 9 thousand dollar loss to get rid of my problem by selling it and buying something else, Personally, I can't afford to take that hit and am trying to solve it for 10% of that cost.

I provide what I have tried and learned and ask for technical factual help. Telling me to, in effect, shut up is in my opinion not helpful.

This is not a factual post and I do realize that and humbly apologize, but please keep it in context with all those that were.

Please read the first sentence again, and thank you for your attention. :) :grouphug:

Love and hate are very strong terms. If I say I love something, it means that I more than 'like' it. It might even mean that I would marry it, die for it, and give all of my money for it.

I fall into the 'not my preference, not my taste, would rather have something different, but not annoyed to the point that I would call it a problem or complain to the dealer/manufacturer about it' category. ;)

I can understand someone providing Factual Productive comments about the Suspension, But This has turned in is no more than a "My car is better than your car" Thread.. So yes Its a Suspension Thread, so Kepp it Factual and Informative Specific to the Genesis.. Where will the comparisons end??

According to the Car and Driver video review of the Genesis (link below) both BMW and Infiniti M have a firmer suspension then Genesis, but neither of them exhibit the kind of loss of control on rough roads that the Genesis does. So it is not a simple matter of which vehicle has the firmest ride.

Here is the video if you want to see it:

The 2009 Genesis has a suspension problem, which is why it is being fixed by Hyundai in 2010 with new shock/spring rates and new bushings. These changes will not make the ride soft, but are to fix a problem with the suspension tuning.

Heard ALL this same stuff before.. just keeps rehashing... Non Productive...

Non productive for whom? I think it is valuable information for current and prospective owners. I would say that feedback from owners like on this forum is one the things that got Hyundai to make changes to the 2010 suspension, so I would say these suspension discussions have been very productive.

As mentioned before, if you don't want to hear about suspension issues (like I don't want to hear about lighting, hesitation, inadequate bass, speaker cover, etc, issues) then just stop reading suspension threads. You can also put individual posters on "ignore."

Putting individual posters on "ignore" does not block those same individual comments from showing up in you reading material, because if a member quotes your content, it WILL show up.. so it really make no sense to "ignore".. I don't see these comments as NEW feedback.. just regurgitating the same info over and over again... Glad you really believe Hyundai's changes are a directly related to the comments from this forum..

I WILL Continue to read the Suspension Thread in hopes that someday there will be NEW info that helps, rather than the same old same old.. I have no doubt that come October when the 2010 rolls out, there will still be issues with it, because it will be difficult to make everyone happy.. Performance or Comfort..

Hey...thats a pretty good category!;):D

I get a little tired of the suspension threads myself, but there are always new members on both sides of this discussion, so sometimes the same issues get discussed again. But there have been some new things discussed, such as the 2010 changes being made, and attempts by owners to make changes of their own.

I see a lot of repetitive threads and posts on virtually every other subject on this forum, but somehow nobody seems to get upset about it. It's just part of having new members.

:)

And by 'different,' I mean softer. If I wanted a sports-tuned suspension, I would have bought a sports sedan. There are gobs of them in the 30's and 40's. Not so much luxe, soft ones in that price category.

Thus, the news about the 2010 suspension (along with the price increase) tends to make me glad that I didn't wait, especially with the other rumors about the early mid-life refresh cycle.

How much of a price increase is there going to be?

How much of a price increase is there going to be?

From Hyundai's press kit:

2009 Genesis Manufacturers Suggested Retail Pricing:

Genesis 3.8 $33,000 (base)

Genesis 4.6 $38,000 (base)

$750 freight charge included

HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA ANNOUNCES 2010 GENESIS PRICING

Genesis 3.8 $33,800 (base incl freight)

Genesis 4.6 $40,300 (base incl freight)

I don't see anything official as to what they are going to charge for the option packages. Since the base 4.6 comes with touchscreen NAV as standard equipment, the price increase on the base 4.6 isn't as big as it looks. But then again, since they're adding the electronic parking brake and smart cruise control to the Techology package, it might raise the fully-loaded price to $43-44K list.

EDIT: According to this thread, the Tech package will be $43,800 MSRP.

I’ve spent a lot of time riding in the 2009, A6 because two family members are owners. I don’t want anyone thinking the A6 and the V8 have the same ride. If someone is thinking about these two I would recommend driving them on the same road. Neither has had any problems with their A6, but many Genesis owners have not have problems.

actually I think he expects it to ride at least as good as a Maxima LOL.

I am confused, is it correct to read A6 OK, Genesis some OK ?

For me, it is not a case of love it or hate it affair. I would have just preferred that the suspension would have been a little softer.
