Getting familiar with the group...
Has anyone done this? With these LED kits out now, wondering if anyone has info on it...
HID still reigns supreme in light output.
Putco, which uses Cree LEDs in their D1S-based bulb, is capable of 3200 Lumens at 6000K.
Sylvania Osram CBI (The highest sought after D1S HID) produces 3400 Lumens at 5500K
Phillips Ultinon produces 3000 Lumens at 6000K.
Morimoto XBs produce 3400 Lumens at 5500K and 3200 Lumens at 6500K.
Now, I am still considering using the Putco D1S LED, but in a high beam application when I do a high beam projector retrofit. LEDs can be flicked on and off without shortening it's lifespan.
Really? I've been shopping around and see kits promising anywhere from 5400-9000LM...
There would be no way in the world that LED's would put that out. To achieve that light output, Cadillac put 7 LED projectors PER HEADLIGHT in the Escalade hybrid.
The above lumens is more so what you will get. Not to mention that LED's actually suffer terribly from heat soak and will get dimmer and dimmer the longer you use them if not properly optimized for heat inside the light.
EDIT: See?

I have a few friends with LED kits for their headlights and they are a downgrade from most OEM lighting. Just like you mentioned, they heat soak and dim after only 20 minutes of being on. That is NOT desired in performance lighting.
