  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just a little reminder if you haven't already done so, you need to go into System Settings and UNCHECK Daylight Savings Time.

I just finished a 400 mile road trip and had to use the Navi most of the way and I noticed that the ETA was always off by an hour. I bought my R-Spec in May, so the dealer had already setup all that stuff. I thought that Daylight Savings Time would reset automatically, but it does not. On the DIS go to Home/Info-Setup/System Settings and uncheck Daylight Savings Time. :o

Unbelievable that Hyundai didn't incorporate an "automatic" feature to change when necessary........... *sigh*

Thanks for the notice..... :)

Not all places in the US observe daylight savings time, and sometimes they change the dates it goes into effect.

My PC handles the change flawlessly. I would have thought that Hyundai could have done it also. :(

Most electronics have the "auto" feature for DST in the 21st century! However, since Arizona and Hawaii are the only states in the US that don't observe DST, I guess Hyundai had them in mind when they didn't incorporate the auto feature for DST.

Your PC has automatic updates from the internet that can make changes to the operating system to keep track as to the dates when Daylight Savings Time starts and ends. In the USA the dates changed in 2007 to extend Daylight Savings Time (started earlier in the year and ended later in the year) and the dates could change again. The start and end dates also vary by country (almost all countries have different start and end dates than does the USA).

Some parts of Arizona still do not participate in Daylight Savings Time, as well as all of Hawaii does not participate. From 1970 until 2006, most of Indiana in the Eastern Time Zone did not observe Daylight Saving Time, but the entire state started to do so in April 2006 after eight counties in western Indiana were shifted from the Eastern Time Zone to the Central Time Zone. These kinds of changes make it hard for a automobile computer (which is not automatically updated via the internet) keep up with these changes. Once we get cars that can connect directly to the internet, then we might see this kind of automation.

Your phone/PC knows because you tell it what time zone you're in, and it has a database of "DST rules" for each time zone.

The car could do the same if Hyundai took the time/cost to program in the timezones and rules, or for newer models if it synched time from your phone via Bluelink.

If you use Windows it does nothing flawlessly.

I am not sure you read my post above carefully. Your phone knows because it receives updates from the network, and can therefore adapt if the rules change (as they do quite often). The Genesis has no connectivity to a network (phone network or the internet).

Thank you!

Hawaii and Arizona (other than the Navajo reservation) do not observe DST. There used to be a couple counties in Indiana near the KY border that also did not but I think that has changed.

DST implementation dates for the USA are uniform - everyone changes on the same day - but that is not true of DST around the world. Different countries have different implementation dates.

I mentioned those things in my post above:

The dates upon which daylight savings time starts and ends does sometimes changes, as it did for the USA in 2007. The USA changed DST so it started earlier in the year, and ended later in the year. So if Hyundai were to hard code the rules into their auto systems, and no internet/phone access could update it, and if daylight savings time start/end dates changed again, the Genesis would provide inaccurate time information.

The time change on Nov 3 was flawless on my PC! (Win7 Pro 64 bit)
You PC gets updates from the internet as to when DST changes are supposed to occur, and it gets time synchronization for the exact time from http://time.windows.com

The Genesis does not have access to the internet, nor any kind of phone/wireless network to update its software for DST start and end dates, or to synchronize with the exact current time.

Somehow our 2007 Honda Odyssey with navigation knows how to automatically adjust the car's clock with DST and with time zones. You never have set the time in the car. It is magic.

The map database must have time zones and DST observers/non-observers built it. Nav systems can get you the correct time for your location.

The automatic reset feature is set to activate 3/9/14.

You seem to have a bottomless pit of reasons why DST can't be changed automatically in the Genesis. Why are you so pessimistic?

My PC gets the OS updates that I choose to have installed from Microsoft via the internet and it syncs with time.nist.gov which is more reliable! Other software updates are downloaded as needed from the software publisher's website. NO updates happen automatically except for my security software.

And, my Genesis DOES have access to the internet via blueLink. :D

I am not pessimistic. Obviously, Hyundai (or the supplier who makes their audio/video/nav system) could update that info if it has access to the internet or access via a mobile phone system. I think the Bluelink is fairly new to the Genesis, but I guess they just choose not to use it for DST updates. I personally don't think it is a big deal. I would be more than satisfied if I knew for sure that brakes will always work. Maybe they will automatically update DST for MY 2015.

Regarding you decision to not have automatic updates to Windows OS: if in 2007 you decided to not download and install the Windows update that contained changes as to when DST starts and ends in the USA, then you would have had the wrong time on your computer for several weeks each year.

You stated "Some parts of Arizona still do not participate in Daylight Savings Time." which is a bit misleading.

I clarified it by noting that the only part of AZ observing DST is the Navajo reservation in NE AZ. The reason is because the reservation spans both AZ and NM (which observes DST) and the Navajos want uniform time across the entire reservation.

Interestingly, there is the Hopi reservation wholly contained inside the Navajo reservation but it does not observe DST.

Simple, huh? :D
