SO TRUE! I can park 100 feet from the closet car in the lot and when I come back there is always some twit right next to me. Must be some sort of strange flocking/herding instinct...

When you park in a remote spot in the parking lot, some of these a$$hats will park so close to you that you can't get your door open, just to be obnoxious (at least I've seen that here in the DC/Balto area).

I couldn't agree more. I park out in the boonies and damn near every time I get back I complain to my son or wife that some ding-dong decided to park right next to me!! Grrrrr.....

If it's also a decent car I don't mind as much, but my luck usually has some beater parked next to me.

Happens to my family all the time. these a-holes love to do that for no apparent reason.

Even when I park like in the middle on nowhere(in the parking lot) when I come back, there is always some beater crap park next to my car.

Another approach is to park between two high end cars that are in great condition, especially if you can tell that they're driven by employees who are likely to have similar hours. I also look for spots where there's a passenger door on both sides of me. Most people at work drive alone, so there's less chance of door dings. Of course, obstructions like posts on one or both sides are even better.

I thought I was the only quack that over-analyzed parking spaces. Good to know there's company

Yet another approach, is to occupy two parking spaces (eg. leaving 1/2 parking space on each side), in a remote, unoccupied portion of the parking lot. That has always worked for me. If the parking lot is rather full, I try to find a parking space at the end of a row....leaving extra space between my car and the one car next to me.

Had my Genesis for nearly 3 years... and not a ding yet.

Yeah there are a ton of us parking analysts out there. I told my wife never to park close when she is driving my Genesis since I do not want any dings in it. And yeah, in the DC area, someone almost always finds the need to park next to you, even when you park way the hell far away. Its why I always try to park next to posts or guards or other places where other people cannot park next to my ride.
