  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tesla CyberTruck

I agree that the truck is ridiculous and not a serious effort. Looks like it belongs on the set of a bad 80s movie.
As far as the model 3, I like the side and rear views, but I find the nose is ugly as hell. Looks totally unfinished, reminds me of Daffy Duck's beak.
I'm not a fan of most of the EV interiors I've seen (except for the amazing Porsche Taycan). I still want knobs and buttons, not a giant screen. It's a huge distraction. The Tesla interiors look way too stark and plain.
Having said all that, I don't hate Musk and have great respect for what he's accomplished, despite the imperfections.

I'm genuinely curious about the Tesla hate too. There seem to even be reports of people just randomly keying Tesla cars because they hate Musk/Tesla so much. I don't get it. And it actually was one of the things that made me a bit hesitant to get one. Every time I parked, did I really want to have to worry about some lunatic with a perceived vendetta against Musk/Tesla vandalizing my car. Teslas are far from perfect, absolutely, but they're not that bad either IMHO and hopefully will inject some much needed innovation in the auto industry.

Looks like it came out of a cheap Mad Max knock-off movie...

You NAILED it!. Where do I put my cargo in the back? I don't see many truck owners buying something that looks like this?

People's behavior is strange at times. The latest sport of some ICE owners, mostly pickups, is to block the charging stations. One car left at a charger burned and arson is suspected. Many incidents of vandalism on them

people did the same thing with Hummers a few years back, the hate because they "ruin the environment" no logical considering they were no worse than any other 2500 series GM, Ram, or 250 series Ford Truck.

people just can't mind themselves, always angry at what others have.

Perhaps some of the vandalism is resentment that these charging stations are right next to the front door and also the thought that these electrics are getting a free ride to boot while a far away parking spot drive also has to pay for gas. Probably mostly false perception as I think most of the charging stations charge to be plugged into.

Re worried about gettng your car "keyed" in a parking lot, I'm amazed how many people drive around with old Obama, Clinton or Trump stickers on the cars. Any one of these 3 seems to be saying "KEY ME PLEASE". Won't see me tempting fate with a political sticker on my G80.

Do you think any of the charging stations are free? I wouldn't think so. Certainly not the ones you see in front of stores. In fact, Tesla charges a premium electric rate for their fast charging stations.

Misconceptions probably still abound. Going back a few years there were some free stations put in for any electric, not just Tesla. I know of a restaurant that had one that allowed you to charge free while eating. Some businesses put stations in for employees too. In any case, it looks like special treatment. "Mom always liked you better" jealousy.

I was talking about perception of the idiots that "key" vehicles. Re Tesla, their fast charging stations were free up until Jan '17. Then they instead gave up to 1000 miles of charging free annually before charging. No free charges to used car buyers.

Now free is back for their expensise models, model E buyers not invited.

Tesla is bringing back free, unlimited charging for new Model S and X buyers

Nice. Now instead of just the pickup drivers getting POd, they pit one category of Tesla owner against others. I think I'd be afraid to park a Model S anywhere

You actually reminded me of a similar incident many years ago. I don't remember the exact year, but it was kind of near the time when Hummers were still sort of popular (maybe around early 2000s but can't say for sure). I was visiting a college buddy and both of us were fairly recently out of college. For whatever reason he had bought an H2 off eBay. It was such an odd choice - both of us were young college grads not making that much money. I had chosen a honda accord for reliability and he goes off and chooses an H2. Anyway, we're driving down the highway and I could swear people were glaring at us. I asked my buddy about it and he confirmed that people were giving us dirty looks. He lived in Portland OR at the time which is pretty full of green environmentalist types, so their reaction isn't that surprising I guess. Weird that memory stuck so clearly in my head...

Tesla to me is like apple , they are trying to make everyone like sheep, you have to run everything through them repairs, parts, body work , ect.....btw Does anyone have a plan on how to safely dispose electric vehicles once they run there course, it's going to be a toxic nightmare.

Where did Elon touch you? It’s going to be ok. Stupid people and their money will soon part ways, but we need them to bring costs down and stupid down for the rest of us so we can then benefit a decade or so later once the tech and everything is perfected

The batteries can be re-used in less demanding applications, like storage for solar grids. That's what Rivian is planning to do.
After that I'm sure there will be efforts to recycle the material.
Remember that every car made in the last 90 years has a battery full of lead, highly toxic. Obviously one battery, not thousands, but that's millions of cars for decades. Every approach has it's challenges and downsides.
Think about the enormous oil spills that have polluted our land and oceans if you want to talk about toxic messes.
