If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I am still waiting a few more weeks for the 2016, and I have had two short test drives in variously configured Geneses. Today I drove to the next town over to the nice Equus-selling dealership and had a longer test drive in the 3.8L Black exterior Beige interior Signature and Tech Package Genesis. I am set on this configuration minus the Tech Package.

It was late afternoon and a bit rainy. Something about driving essentially the car I really want made me so excited to own one. Everything about it was beautiful: The HID headlights and LED trim looked gorgeous, even without the LED fog lights. The black paint with raindrops on it looked glossy and sleek. The interior was so elegant, soft, and absurdly spacious. Sitting in the back seat with the side and rear sunshades up and the panoramic roof displayed, taking in the beautiful car with so much interior space, was amazing. I felt like I was sitting in the back of a Rolls Royce, but modern. I opened up the hood, and that engine is huge!

Driving it was just so much fun. I put it on Sport Mode and didn't think twice. I can't imagine having the V8. It was so fast with the V6, and when I floored it at the entrance to the highway, I felt like I was going into warp speed. It was just so smooth and fast. I slammed on the brakes at a stoplight later, on a wet road, and this huge, heavy car stopped so quickly and smoothly, I couldn't believe it. Even when a truck pulled from being stopped on the shoulder into my lane and I had to make an emergency lane change on the highway, everything was so responsive and smooth. The ride at 80 mph was incredibly quiet. When I turned it on, the sound system blew me away with its solid, punchy bass and crisp sound. I think my only gripe is that the ultra leather seats should be part of the luxury feature Signature Package instead of the safety feature Tech Package. The leather just felt so nice, but I have no use for the Tech package. The chimes and haptic feedback were annoying, and I know I would just turn that all off.

All in all, this drive really sold me on the options I had chosen. More importantly, it made me so incredibly excited to get my new car. I just have to be patient for the next few weeks while they make their way from the Northeast to North Carolina. Congratulations to all of you who own such a fine car!

Patience will pay off. Glad you are excited!

This is why I never buy a new car it it's not fresh off the truck 😣
- but good luck with your purchase - the 2016's are starting to show up at the dealers here in central NJ.

truer words... I know people my age that still think it's funny to beat on loaners or rentals or rag out a car on a test drive.

7 miles on the odo? ok. 50? nnnnnnnnope.

I think you and me and a lot of others here had that same feeling. There's a lot that's really great about this car. Congrats in advance, you'll love it! :welcome:

The tech features are not annoying once accustomed to them. Personally I won't be buying a car without them. The seats alone make the tech package worth every penny. The leather is superb and comfort on longish drives can't be beat.

I took delivery of my 3.8 Ultimate in May and have 10K already. Nearly all Hwy miles and the car is all day comfortable.

Blind spot detection is worth every penny.

Unless there is a change for 2016, Blind Spot Detection and Cross traffic warning while backing comes with the Signature package.

Break a modern car in 50 miles? Ok....

I think the safety features of the tech package are very important, in particular the forward collision warning and braking. The leather and seats are nicer. If a particular warning is too annoying, it can be turned off or made less obtrusive.

Break a modern car in 50 miles? Ok....

But why would one want to buy a brand new car that someone was beating on during test drives???

We are specifically instructed by the manufacturer to keep engine rpm's between 2,000 and 4,000 for the first 600 miles and to avoid hard stops/brake lockups if at all possible.

Would you be ok if, when you took delivery of your car, the rep first floored it out of the driveway, raced back past the dealership at 80 mph, flung it around the corner back into the lot, came to an emergency stop right in front of you and then tossed you the keys? Do what you like - but I want to break my car in properly myself!

Probably no one, but saying all or most test drive Genesis are "beaten" may be a little much. With the rarity of the Genesis at most dealerships, it is not a car regularly test driven. Most in stock at dealers where I shopped were not used for test drives and ones that were, were carefully monitored by sales or were designated testers later sold as demos.

My car had around 100 miles on it as it was moved from another dealer when sold, which fell through. Could the driver who transferred it flogged it? Maybe, but odds are the car can take normal abuse.

Sorry - did not mean to imply they are all beaten (nor did I say that). The problem is that there is no easy way to tell which ones were. For me, the more miles on a car when you pick it up typically means many people test drove it - so the chance of someone beating on it goes up! I'd rather not take any chances with a car that was not properly broken in.

I saw my Genesis get offloaded from the truck at the dealer - it had 13 miles on it when I drove it off the lot, with 5 of those being my check out drives before I agreed to take delivery (I try to avoid driving off the lot with an obvious issue, so don't complete the deal until I drive the car).

Speaking of dealer transfers, my best friend's brother worked at a Toyota dealer back in the early 80's. They would go on road trips with in-stock vehicles to swap or just pick up a model they "bought" from another dealer. He told me they used to drive those cars like they stole them - they'd routinely race them: they especially liked when they would have to pick up a Supra!

For me, I'd pick it up as it came off the assembly line if I could - for others it's not a big deal - different strokes for different folks!

Agreed. I would preferred to have ordered one and seen it roll off the truck (which I was able to do with several BMW's).

A couple of my friends took delivery of their BMW's right at the factory in Europe and then drove them around for a week or 2 before they shipped them back - pretty cool option!

I think that was directed at me per my comment. I, as well, don't think they are all beaten, simply that removing that variable is desirable.

European Delivery is a tempting option for many - the cars extra discount can help pay for the trip. With BMW, you get a factory tour and your car is put on a revolving pedestal at the renowned Welt building for you to then drive off. Only downside seemed to be the long wait to get the car back stateside after leaving it at the pier - after driving it around the German countryside and then having to wait over a month to see it again.

...that's why you seat the rings like you should by beating the car in. ;)
None of that soft break in nonsense, unless it's for a clutch. ;)
You are correct that soft break-in is not good. Hyundai wants you to break-in between 2000-4000 RPM to seat the rings properly. Acceleration between 3500-4000 RPM is quite rapid. But if one is going between 4000-redline during break-in (which I am sure some do during test drives) that is not good for the engine break-in.

Spin it up, engine brake it down...repeat.
No long cruises out of the box.

I drive all new engines the way I plan to drive the car, as do many, and have had great results across platforms. I shudder to think that the last guy might have done the "mfr recommended" break in on this boat. :(
