  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm surprised nobody asked for this forum earlier. In any event, it's here...

i am almost afraid when this car arrives.. temptation will be hard to resist.

I guess R-spec isn't here yet and thus nobody asked for it.
There is not a lot of info on this except first drives or short take.
I was considering 3.8 and 4.6 but it won't hurt if I wait for R-spec to test drive.

So what are thoughts on the Pricing of the R-Spec? Obviously the MSRP is already released. Also, both Hyundai Circle and ZAG show R-Spec pricing and it is right in line with the discounts on the 3.8 and 4.6 (e.g. ZAG Amex pricing for the R-Spec shows Invoice of 44,368, MSRP of 47,350 and ZAG price of $43,868).

However, do you think that demand will be high enough that they won't sell for this amount?

Cheers,
Newman

It all matters with the feel of the ride. Suspension and power up to the buyer's taste etc.
If they nail this to a lot of customers, it will sell like hot cakes and may have to pay the sticker price.

Also I am not sure about this but R-spec does have a lot more competitor than other trims due to sporty vs original luxury sedan

the multiple dealers I spoke to about the r-spec wanted to hear nothing but the MSRP on the r-spec even though they were going below invoice on 3.8.

it'll be this way for a while. if you want an r-spec bum-fu*k Egypt is where you're going to get the best deal lol..

Yeah, but this same stuff happened when the Genesis first came out, and I'm sure there are a few dealers that are STILL asking MSRP on all their stock. The dealers that are actually dealing will sell the cars, but we'll have to wait and see how low they will go.

problem is...the first few cars are getting pre-ordered as there is much more hype about the 5.0 vs anything else.

I wanted the 5.0 my self before getting the 3.8, if that wasn't heavily advertised I'd still be driving my RL. The case for the 3.8 is much weaker than 5.0 from the competition point of view.

Just picked up a black 2012 r-spec last night. I ended up paying 45,985.00 including dest. I was able to take advantage of the 1500.00 comp. coupon for my a4.

I just got a call from the dealer that one R-spec is available.
The MSRP is $48k due to tire option (+$1400) but the dealer said they are doing a special $5000 off (I don't know what exactly) that brings down to around $43k. I just checked the circle price and it seems dead-even. I would've bought it today in an instant if it wasn't for the color though.
At least I will be able to test drive it sometime this week

Please RangePro give us a detailed driving impressions? Also Junkie49 when you test drive the car as well. Below is my recent review:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It seems all initial distros of 2012 genesis sedan R-Spec's in ILLINOIS so far are all black exterior. And of course I want silver platinum metalic lol. Please everyone share your test drive impressions as well.

I test drove a local black genesis 2012 sedan r-spec today. The salesman let me drive on smooth roads and some really really bad back roads. My impressions were:

1) The most tight car with no negligible body flex I have ever been in = very solid.
2) The most quiet car I have ever been inside of at speed.
3) The engine had notably much more power than the 2011 V8 I test drove 2 months ago.
4) Going over the really really bad roads was still very quiet... But way too much vibration was transmitted into the cabin and even the steering wheel vibrated and shook just as much. This being said this car is NOT for anyone seeking a smooth ride over bad roads period as you will cry to your momma and on this forum 24/7/365. BUT if the percentage of road surfaces you drive on are decent and lets face it most are except for bad back roads then I would say give it a try and test drive it yourself.
5) The 8 speed trans shifted effortlessly and smooth as silk. There was a lag when you put your right foot into it alot during passing but it is a self learning adjusting trans so this will improve over time.
6) Love the super new GDI engine!! To do what it does and be smooth and quiet is simply amazing! No I am not one of those boy racers or automotive press reviewers that feed off overly loud testosterone laden exhaust notes. No one needs to hear me comming, but instead only be seen thru my rear view mirror lol.
7) The steering on regular roads is tight and very responsive & quick to driver input. Going around corners if you hit the throttle to much the engine being so powerful will engage the ESC. So use care as this is not a your grandpa's ride...

Summary:
In my case I LOVE this car despite the suspension jack hammer vibrations over really bad roads at speed. The rock song by AC DC "You shook me all night long" fits well for this vehicle over really bad roads. Considering there are so many pluses and fantastic greats with this car than this one complaint that will only happen once in a great while, I have no second thoughts about getting one ASAP once my color choice arrives.

PS: I did not check the tire pressure which admittedly could be a big factor.
And the salesman did say they are shipped usually at 50psi because they are strapped down for shipment and something about the reason for high psi is to keep the tires from setting or becomming unproportional.

We also talked about the sound system issue with power going off and he said he has seen that happen and hopes Hyundai fixes this electronic bug via service bulliten if they have not already. I did read a fix for this on the forums here as follows if it happens to you: Hold the left power button on the stereo head unit in until the sound system reboots. OR Shut car off for 3 minutes then restart. You can search the forums here for additional info as needed.

I used to have a 1992 corvette it had 300hp. And over the same bad roads it was much worse than the r-spec. But as a Genesis luxury sedan I as well we all do, are all tougher on this type of car when it comes to ride quality as we expect a good luxury ride as it is not a "true sports car". Anyone want an air adjustable supsension like many other cars have in this price range? I know if it were an 500.00 to 1500.00 dollar option it would be worth it to me. I know the Equus has this but is not within the price range I am currently looking at. The 2013 non r-spec Genesis Sedan will have the new GDI V8, but I cannot wait year after year waiting for the next best thing or else there will never be a new car in my garage.

There is nothing like this currently on the market for power, refinement, style, price, warranty period. I look forward to loving this car like a good friend for years to come. Using zag.com or circle pricing with motozuma.com will put a smile upon your face at the check out counter.

I have 300 miles on the car and I love it. I agree with some of the other reviews that the steering vibrates a little to much over bumpy roads, but other than that the car handles really well. I got a lot of praise from my buddy who is a stay put Lexus owner on the craftsmanship of the interior and how well thought out the design was. Timc your review is right on, the car is very solid and quiet. I dont have any issues with the sound system and I agree I dont need to advertise my h.p. thru my exhaust.

Rangpro, on another thread a poster said as per article link below, an oil change on a new car after 20 miles is an important consideration. What are your thoughts now you have one of the sweetest rides this side of the border? I plan on getting the same vehicle soon as it arrives in silver. Wonder if the dealer would think I'm nuts after only 20mi. if I took it in for an oil change. lol

I just test drove the R Spec yesterday. I have had a BMW 535 and this blows it away. As good or better than the 550i. To get the same equipment in the 550i would bring that beemer to well over 70,000. AWESOME CAR. Hope to get this one this week.

I went in to buy one yesterday....had the true car figure (almost $3K off) but they would not honor it.

I ended up getting and Equus instead.
