If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The Genesis that does not exist in California

I visited the Hyundai website and custom configured the car I want: a 3.8 with only the Premium Package, white/tan. I'm not interested in the other packages. $33,000 + $2500 = $35,500 MSRP. Sounds simple enough, right?

Except that after checking with 4 Southern California dealers, I am being told that a Genesis of this configuration does not exist anywhere in California. They're all trying to up sell me to the Tech Package. But I do not want to spend the extra money (I'm paying cash).

One dealer says I can order from the factory, but that would 4-6 months. But that puts me into possible 2011 models, so maybe I cannot place a factory order at all.

I find it unbelievable that Hyuandai would allow a configuration on their website that they cannot deliver.

Any suggestions or comments would be welcome (but please don't try talking me into a Tech Package -- I have no use for those features). I simply want exactly what I configured on their website.

It is up to the importer, Hyundai Motors America (HMA), to decide which colors and packages get ordered from the factory, and what parts of the country they are shipped to. These factory orders are placed well in advance due to manufacturing and shipping lead times required. Dealers can make "requests" to HMA, but dealers cannot actually order direct from the factory.

If a color/package combination is not available, it could be because they under-estimated demand for that combination. You cannot expect that someone can predict 6 months in advance exactly what customers will want, and it may be that not many others in California want that combination of color/package (without the Tech Package). Given the types of car buyers there are in CA, they probably assume most people want the Tech Package, and order a lot more cars with the Tech Package than for other parts of the country. Comments like "that they cannot deliver" are a little bit out-of-line IMO. Maybe you could try another state?

Good advice. Thank you. I'll try out-of-state.

Im from California. Im buying out of state. California prices are ridiculous. BTW other states are giving a $1500 rebate .. california is not.

I couldnt find black/ tan combo or black/saddle in all of california for tech package its ridiculous

I bought my car from Kansas. I live in Massachusetts.

I got exactly what I wanted. :D:welcome:

Amen! Could not get a 2010 Tech in October on the East Coast! Bought in Kansas, flew out and drove back....Great Road Trip oops Test!!

Funny... I did the same thing... It was fun and I took my time. 500mi each day staying in Super8's along the way.

Not an unusual situation. As previously posted too many variations to have them all available. But the real issue is that Korea produces what they want regardless of USA marketing campaigns.

But you can get the car you desire if you contact the correct people and make them an offer they can't refuse. I did it and it took 5 weeks to get my black, V-8, with saddle and tech package. Once you reach the right person and have the right approach it is relatively simple.

:)

My thoughts exactly.
I expect to spend time locating the vehicle in the exact configuration I want, especially if it's a low volume model like the Genesis.
Now if you're talking about Camrys or Malibus, it wouldn't be hard to find one, but finding the EXACT combo with the exact same package you want, it's not easy. Can't blame Hyundai for that.
I'm normally quite open to color combinations but pretty firm on package options.
Luckily, the choices I was considering(V8 Tech, silver exterior, not decided on interior color) were all available at my local dealer.

Mind you, white is a rare color. At least in my area.
I haven't seen one in person.
Good luck with your shopping!

Dan

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I'm looking for the same option package (3.8 w/ premium, not premium nav or tech) in Washington state. No luck at this point; the thing seems to be made of unobtanium. I did find one dealer who was able to locate one on the East coast, but the shipping cost was prohibitive. For now I'm just getting an update once a week or so on what's available out there, but I'm not holding out a lot of hope for finding one on the west coast until a shipment arrives from Korea or the 2011's start rolling.

Friarrush, you will probably have to travel to another state to find your Genesis. The dealer in Kansas offers good deals, I had to travel to another state to get my Ginny.

In March, after searching all over Southern Caliornia I located a 3.6 white over saddle, with premium nav (not tech package). It was at Keyes in Van Nuys, one of the dealers close to my home. Including the little goodies like the IPOD cable and mesh trunk holder, I got it for a little under $34,500. Also got Keyes to install the wing badges on trunk and steering wheel at no cost.
Good experience.
