  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The GV70 Trailer Hitch Discussion

I preferred a more hidden hitch, so a fabricator/friend of mine came up with a design that I’m very happy with. It bolts to the existing holes and nuts in the frame. Had to drop the exhaust, but that wasn’t a big deal. I also didn’t mind cutting the rear fascia, as that’s common on most cars (even if it’s pre-cut). I think it came out as a very clean install.

Okay, you cannot just tease us like that without pictures!!!!

Seriously though, very intrigued as I will need a hitch on mine and not keep on how the factory one is so obtrusive. Any pics would be much appreciated!

Holy crap. That looks so well integrated!! Very nice. Your guy should sell the design to a manufacturer so we can all get one! Thanks.
I’m a newbie and somehow the pics didn’t post. Here’s one

Looks like you had to cut out a piece of plastic where the receiver is located. Did you have to add any supports for the plastic on the right and left side of the receiver?

Really clean looking install, can I ask how much? He should sell the design to Genenis as they are lacking in designers who have seen a trailer hitch.

Yes, we had to notch out the plastic. It is structurally very strong and doesn't need any support. I did the same kind of cut on my Porsche Macan for the Curt Hitch.

We were doing a little barter, so I'm not sure. This one probably cost $1,000.00 because it was 3 trips to the shop during the design process, to get things perfect. The plates that attach to the frame were water jet cut and like 3/8" thick. The cross bar is 2" square cut stock with cutouts to clear the backup lights (this is probably why the OEM just hangs below the bumper). The cutouts are then welded with plate for strength so I'm comfortable this hitch will tow more then the rated capacity of the car. Everything was done in their CAD system, so I suppose it could be reproduced without any design work.

Hopefully, you can open source the design and release it.. or provide hopefully the shop has an online presence and provide an option for people to buy it in North America. Stealth hitches.. according to posting on this forum may not make a hitch due to spacing issues.

I'll look into it. I think the biggest problem the shop has, is liability in selling a trailer hitch to the public. I'd think we could do a run of 10 or so hitches to keep the cost down, but would need to overcome the liability issue.

Your fabricated hitch receiver looks great. Very clean look. I am interested in purchasing one and would also sign a liability waiver if the fabricator makes a run of them. I would like one with just the 2" hitch receiver and would not need the plate for the chain hooks. I just want the hitch receiver to mount my bike rack. I would just need to make sure the same mounting points and clearance are the same for my 2.5T vs your 3.5T

Same here. All I need is the hitch for a bike rack mount. I don't plan on pulling anything.

Im all in if this becomes available !! Also only need for bikes

I also am interested in the hitch, is it powder coated? I am in New Hampshire, and with all the salt, they rust quickly.

I'd also buy one. Please add me to your list. Thank you

I also would purchase one of these. Looks like a bunch of people are interested so hopefully this will work out. Mine would be for a trailer so I'd need the plate for the chains. thanks for your help.
I also would be willing to sign a liability release.

I'll check into say a run of 10 of them. Mine is just for bikes too, but I included the plate in case I pull a utility trailer. It's pretty far back and not very visible as I took that pic from like 18" off the ground. Here's a few pics showing the hitch before installation, OEM mounting points, and the backup light (with the sticker on it) which required the cutout In the hitch. And yes, it's powder coated a satin black to match the fascia instead of th usual gloss black.

Awesome. Please let us know. Thank you

Thanks for the pics. While I really like how integrated it is, I would be getting close to max towing weight when occasionally pulling a potentially loaded 4 x 10 utility trailer. That bar past the integrated reverse lights looks rather thin, and without a certified rating/capacity, I would always be concerned that it could bend or worse, fail and cause damage or injury. It's not a risk I am willing take for aesthetics. If it had a tested rating, or if I was using it for bikes like you or a small trailer, I would be all over it.
