Hello, I bought a certified used 2010 genesis 3.8 v6 sedan beginning of 2013.
Luckily, I extended my warranty. If I didn't, I would've paid a lot of money to fix this genesis. I'll just share to everyone what I have experienced in less than 1 YEAR with this genesis sedan so that others may know. Here we go.

1) The first problem I encountered was the parking brake. The parking brake light didn't come on and was fully engaged while I was driving. Leaving me a useless parking brake that didn't work.

Hyundai's solution: Changed the parking brake light switch and adjust the parking brake to grab the rotors.

2) Second problem was the passenger side high beam. A bulb was missing and was pointing way to high to the sky while the low beam is normal leveled with the driver side headlight.

Hyundai's solution: Changed the whole passenger side headlight assembly

3) Third problem was the brake fluid recall. (All of you will probably know already)

4) Fourth problem was the loud whining noise from the front of the engine. That sounded like I had a supercharger, but I didn't.

Hyundai's solution: idler pulley making abnormal noise was replaced.

5) Fifth problem was the night time running lights only on the front and back driver's side doesn't come on but passenger side did. (I have pictures of this)

Hyundai's solution: Replaced ER Fuse Box or junction box

6) Sixth problem was the Dome lights flickering. Every so often when I open the door, the dome lights flicker like I'm in a club or disco. I thought I was going to get a seizure. (I have video proof of this)

Hyundai's solution: Check wire connector and ground. Found ground wire at LH.front kick panel loose. Remove and clean out wire terminal and reinstall.

7) Seventh problem was the brake pedal squeaks and only 2 occurrences where I have had the brake pedal all the way down but still made the pads grab the rotors. Thank GOD.

Hyundai's solution: Brake master has internal leak. Pedal goes to floor. Replace brake master and air bleed system.

8) Eighth problem was the brake light switch recall. (Everyone should know about this and I recently changed it a week ago.)

The problem with this new brake light switch that I have encountered was the brake light doesn't come on when it's lightly braking. Especially when I get stuck in traffic in low speeds.

While writing about this I'm going head off to the dealership and get that adjusted.

But if anyone knows how to remove the plastic cover, where the brake light switch is. I will greatly appreciate it.

Hope this helps anyone.

After reading through your problems I think there is a possibility that the car was in an accident before you purchased it. Even if there is no carfax record of accident does not mean it was not in one.

And they claimed this car was "certified"??? I think I smell a rat.

Sounds a lot like my experience. Just a little over 1 year of ownership on a 2010 3.8 v6 sedan and about 30k miles put on it since i purchased the car.

1) bad idler pulley
2) bad driver side door lock acuator
3) bad ABS module

Currently in the shop and this is what they said needs replaced. They still have to figure out whats going on that causes the security light to come on and the seat belt light (seat belt was on).

4) both dome lights (they flicker and one is pretty dim)
5) driver side power seat switch and motors in the seat
6) driver side door handle ( car doesn't want to lock or unlock randomly with remote or button, ive already replaced the remote battery several times)

Not knowing the history of a car is always a gamble if you purchase it.

I bought mine a year ago and have had no problems what so ever. I seem to enjoy it more each time I take it out.

Beautiful, stable, nice ride, very soft to the touch and FAST! What more could a man want!?:)

I have a 2012 3.8 tech that I've had for a year and a half. I too had the door actuator fail, the ABS recall and yes now I'm starting to hear a whining noise from the engine compartment that sounds very much like a bad idler pulley...Plus my cruise control died and I've had to have a bad injector changed. Oh did I mention that having the GPS updated fried my head unit? Put me back before I bought the Genesis and there is no way I would steep foot into the Hyundai shop.

Oh yeah I forgot to add the occasional "no audio" that still occurs post GPS update and the automatic steering wheel positioner which isn't automatic at all.

Well I still have my health!

Yeh, I've had a few problems,

Head Unit/CD & other bits N pieces Replaced after Screen Freezing.
(Hyundai knows about this Issue)
New Drivers seat & Motor Unit (Noisy Motor).
Loose screw or washer in Passengers side mirror.. easily fixed.
Vibration when accelerating, came in at around 70-80mph, wheels balanced & tires rotated. A lot smoother..
Interior rear passengers light unit - flickering when rear doors opened.(intermittent)..
I'm not sure if these few bits n pieces come under QC or they are just a hiccup
in the overall build or suppliers QC..
Considering how complicated & electronically controlled everything is I don't consider the above issues as more than bloody annoying..
The "G" is a fantastic car......

This many small electrical issues makes me wounded about long term reliability with this car. Don't get me wrong the wife a I love it enough to consider getting a newer model if the issues with this one get out of hand. However so far it seems the dome lights and driver seat to be fairly common problems.

Those of you having a lot of electrical issues, make sure that your ground strap is grounding well. Nothing screws up electrical like a bad or intermittent ground.

Thats what im thinking it could be but I hardlyknow anything about this car when it comes to those details.

Sorry to hear of all of the problems you encountered. In 2012, I bought a certified 2009 Genesis 4.6 from a Hyundai dealer. 13,700 miles. It is now March of 2014, 32,000 miles and the problems I have had total "zero". I can't count the CD changer failure because someone used paper labels on a CD. Luckily that person also bought an extended warranty and replacement was covered.

Love this car.

Have had no significant problems with my 2009 certified 4.6 sedan. Now have 60,000 enjoyable miles on my Gennie. Plan on keeping it another two years. Love it!

Had mine two weeks now. Alignment was off when i drove it off the lot (150 pt inspection my ***) second day of ownership the nav unit froze on my twice. It's in the shop now!

"I bought a certified used 2010 genesis 3.8 v6 sedan beginning of 2013."

If your dealer did the "certification" of this car, it says more about them than it does the car.......Missing headlight bulb???????
If it was me, my trust in that dealer would be out the window.
.
PS....Was this a CPO Hyundai, or did the dealer just call it "certified"?????
.
.

Hate to comment on this but I am at the point of wanting to get rid of the Genny for good but to get what?
Bought car Sept 6th 2014 and have had nice troubles.
Latest was Thursday evening as brakes went completely to the floor. This is not the first time this happened as it corrected itself before. This time I was on my way from work (250 miles) to home as I work out of town. Scared the crap out of me. Carefully drove to dealer yesterday and discovered Master Brake cylinder failed. While it was there I asked them to check my Nav screen as it freezes. WELP what do you know, it did it when they drove it. Master Brake cylinder replacement no problem. Nav BIG PROBLEM. Why? They are trying to get Hyundai to pay for it but my car has 36400 miles on it. I showed them my platinum warranty (Fidelity) and i was told I may have to come out of pocket for Nav repairs as it is a $7k unit. The service manager says max $1200. Uhh no! Forgot to mention to them that the headlights flicker sometimes too. Not happy at all with this car.

Side thought: So they called Enterprise and gave me a 2014 Honda Civic BASE as a loaner. This based Civic has more tech and easy to read display than my 2012. Small LCD screen but it does have rear camera, temp display at all times, MPG/Tank, door lock times, etc. Just little amenities our cars should be standard.

I digress...

To be honest with you guys, I'm planning on selling the 2010 genesis right before warranty expires.

Since i've been going to the hyundai dealership so many times, I found out the head mechanic that I go to is my elementary school friend's dad. Which was a surprise. Hahahaha.

What he has told me for the brake failure is, if you pump the brakes hard a couple times it goes to the floor. Even the service manager that I always go to did it on his sonata. The same thing happens for him too, but it still grabs the brakes though.

As for the certified part I don't know. My carfax report was clean but I checked all the nuts and bolts to see if they have unscrewed it and screwed it back in. No evidence of that exists. I'm not a licensed mechanic but to my eye everything was clean to me.

Looked at the new genesis sedan and test drove it. I really liked it but I'm not sure of the problems that the new one raises.

Quick update: Service manager just called back to say the Master Cylinder was replaced but it still did not work. They have to order another part. All fixed under warranty though. That was the good news. Bad news, he said Hyundai + his parts manager said there will be a $1200 out of pocket cost to me if I want to get my radio replaced. I was PISSED. I did not like his comment "that is better than $7000" so I went off a little bit. I did not even ask about Fidelity. So hung up and just called back and told him to call. He says this "they may not approve it since it is $7000 radio". I just told him I do not care. Call the claim in anyways. He says the adjuster has to come in and see it happening or they wont replace it. I dont give a fart. I am so SICK of this crap! 3 months i supposed to have this Certified Preowned car and look! I was very stern that I WILL NOT and AM NOT coming out of my pocket for this!!

Sorry...

Okay, the service manager contacted Fidelity Warranty and the adjuster looked at it today. I will be paying $50 (deductible) for a new (so they say) radio that he has to order. HA! Keep your fingers crossed for me.
