Okay, so after lots of test driving I come to the conclusion that (a) the G80 Sport is the car for me and (b) Polar Ice is the best car color I’ve ever seen. It’s late summertime and I’m ready to buy.
I learn that Polar Ice was made early in the ‘18 model year. Only “new” ones left are demos and loaners. I consider a loaner with only 300 miles but was manufactured in March ‘17. Sat through two summers and a northeast winter. Dealership wants $55.5K. Won’t budge. I’d prefer to buy new but if this is all there is ... maybe. Local dealership (Marlton, NJ) thinks Polar Ice completely discontinued. I call Genesis USA, they won’t give info on colors for ‘19. I write the GM who tells me Polar Ice is discontinued in 3.3TT Sport because of low sales. ... Ready to negotiate with the loaner, he still won’t budge off 55.5 and with a full year of warranty gone. ... I won’t pull trigger because I am not insane.
Now I see Polar Ice available in the G80 “sport package” for ‘19. Okay! I can be good with this, I’m not a race car driver, but still prefer the 3.3TT. This is an option. In the meantime I see a G70 at the local dealer in Siberian Ice and this color looks almost as sweet. I ask: are you getting this in G80 Sport? Nope. They get what they get, she tells me, and there are no Siberian Ice Sports nor Polar Ice G80s coming to them, and you can’t just order one.
I decide to call Genesis USA again (today!) to see if anyone near me will have delivered a Siberian Ice Sport (3.3TT). Not only does she say yes but also that it will also be in ... Polar Ice! What??? I asked her to repeat so no misunderstanding, she said yep. I ask: who will be getting these cars? She can’t tell me that, doesn’t have that info ... but tells me, just have the local dealer order one!
So I’m confused and unsure if anyone is on the same page. With all this going on I test drive a Cadillac CT6 on a whim and love it, too, am thinking about going that route even though a bit more money it seems like I’ll have fewer headaches dealing with them.
Anyway, thought you’d enjoy the story.
