  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Okay, so after lots of test driving I come to the conclusion that (a) the G80 Sport is the car for me and (b) Polar Ice is the best car color I’ve ever seen. It’s late summertime and I’m ready to buy.

I learn that Polar Ice was made early in the ‘18 model year. Only “new” ones left are demos and loaners. I consider a loaner with only 300 miles but was manufactured in March ‘17. Sat through two summers and a northeast winter. Dealership wants $55.5K. Won’t budge. I’d prefer to buy new but if this is all there is ... maybe. Local dealership (Marlton, NJ) thinks Polar Ice completely discontinued. I call Genesis USA, they won’t give info on colors for ‘19. I write the GM who tells me Polar Ice is discontinued in 3.3TT Sport because of low sales. ... Ready to negotiate with the loaner, he still won’t budge off 55.5 and with a full year of warranty gone. ... I won’t pull trigger because I am not insane.

Now I see Polar Ice available in the G80 “sport package” for ‘19. Okay! I can be good with this, I’m not a race car driver, but still prefer the 3.3TT. This is an option. In the meantime I see a G70 at the local dealer in Siberian Ice and this color looks almost as sweet. I ask: are you getting this in G80 Sport? Nope. They get what they get, she tells me, and there are no Siberian Ice Sports nor Polar Ice G80s coming to them, and you can’t just order one.

I decide to call Genesis USA again (today!) to see if anyone near me will have delivered a Siberian Ice Sport (3.3TT). Not only does she say yes but also that it will also be in ... Polar Ice! What??? I asked her to repeat so no misunderstanding, she said yep. I ask: who will be getting these cars? She can’t tell me that, doesn’t have that info ... but tells me, just have the local dealer order one!

So I’m confused and unsure if anyone is on the same page. With all this going on I test drive a Cadillac CT6 on a whim and love it, too, am thinking about going that route even though a bit more money it seems like I’ll have fewer headaches dealing with them.

Anyway, thought you’d enjoy the story.

You should read my thread. :(

I has the same thing happen- took a few test drives, decided on a G80 Sport in Polar Ice, negotiated a price ($1k under invoice), then was told that there's no cars anywhere. The Genesis hotline was alternatively blissfully ignorant (just call! There's plenty of stock! You can order one today!) and helpful (there's three in the US, two are loaners, call this one guy in Indiana and hope).

I think you got my dealer- sleazy guy, loaner car, lots of miles, wanted MSRP for it or something close. He told me to fly down to negotiate. Ha!

I was pretty much blindsided- I've never heard of a brand that suddenly had no inventory and wouldn't order one. I was certain enough that I had a set of Weathertech's on order- go figure.

There's a few threads scattered here and there about he current semi-dismal state Genesis USA is in. Long story short, they flubbed the dealership/nameplate split to new franchises in the US, and everything is in disarray. Some 19MYs are trickling in but not available yet. You'll have to hold your breath like me and see what's what.

Take a deep breath, go test drive an Audi and Lexus, and if you're still Genesisy maybe settle down for a wait until they sort themselves out. There's some concern about lack of supporting dealerships for the concierge and loaner service depending on how many Hyundai dealers continue with Genesis during the transition. We'll have to see.

If interested in the CT6, would hold off to get the 2019MY (much better sheetmetal).

I think they are changing the engine lineups and availability of them in the different trims. A month or so ago I got the 2019 order guide and on that the twin turbo would only be available on the Platinum level. Looks like a decent car and was on my list but not sure it is worth $90k for that.

Hi orion007, thanks for the heads up, and a very sincere thank you to "turtleboy" for the heads-up on the G80 sport down in Smyrna. I bought that one the day after and had it shipped up to me in South Jersey. My local dealer in Cherry Hill said they wouldn't be getting any Polar Ice in the '19 MY and I decided to just get it from down there. Received it Saturday. Amazing car! Now I have to learn about all the goodies ... might take me forever. Any better way to learn it all besides studying the manual like I am taking the Bar exam? A video or something?

Congratulations! I saw it was sold. Hopefully one day I will be able to get mine. ;)

Enjoy the new car.
