  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Things on the Equus that are Different from the Genesis

They're both "value" options, competing in different classes.

Well, different classes based on size only I suppose? How come they have the same engine options, in fact, the genesis will have a more powerfull engine first? I love Hyundai but I don't think they are doing the right choices about setting the equus apart from the genesis, at least not yet.

Indyking,

It's not "just" size...it's the ride (and I can't emphasize that enough), air suspension and the finishes inside.

I agree that the Genesis is a great buy, IMHO...I wouldn't have bought two.

It's a personal thing, and I can't argue with your opinion. I suggest you test drive the two and then come back here and tell us what you think. I think most of us here that have an Equus have had the Genesis so we're commenting with actual experience. As BTHBC said, these are two different cars. Test drive them and you'll get it.

Oh, two things to add to a difference between the Genesis and the Equus-suede headliner and not paying for service and having them pick-up your car and leave you a Genny to drive until they drop your Equus back off.

NOLa

Thanks! good points. Yes, the vallet service for Equus is definitively a good advantage. I'm not in a big hurry, which is a plus. I will defitively wait the mid-cycle updates for the Equus before I even start test driving them. The only thing I'm sure about at this point is that my Sonata will get replaced by another Hyundai. First, I had the Elantra, now, the Sonata, then perhaps I will do the huge leap to the Equus, who knows.

Not sure if this was asked before, but for someone who's owned a Genesis and now owns an Equus:

Are the DIS control knobs the same size? Can I put an Equus DIS knob on a Genny, ya think?

Reviving an old thread....

I noticed something with my Equus that I have not experienced on any other car. In the driver seat, if you unfasten your seat belt and do not let it spring retract by itself, after a moment an electric motor engages and gently pulls it back in to the retracted position. I tried it a few times to convince myself it was an electric motor and not a spring. Something new.... at least for me.

I'm just curious, does the Equus reccomend synthetic oil? I was never a believer of it's benefits but when I put it in both my car and truck i saw an instant improvement of MPG of approximately 10-20%.

Don't know about the new 5.0, but the 4.6 does not. There are many Genesis owners with the 4.6 who swear by the synth. As a lessor, I do what the dealer says. I figure Hyundai knows their engines better than me, leaving me with only "opinion". We know what those are worth.

Actually, you are the lessee, and Hyundai is the lessor.

I have never seen anything from Hyundai that says they recommend conventional oil rather than synthetic. They do list minimum specifications such as API grade SJ, SL or ABOVE / ILSAC grade GF-3 or ABOVE and fuel efficient oil. Most conventional oils meet these specs, but there are certainly advantages (IMO) of using an oil that exceeds them as is the case with a synthetic oil.

However, make sure you don't use a European Formula synthetic oil such as Castrol Syntec 0W-30, or Mobil 1 0W-40 which have different specs for European (BMW, VW, MB) engines that must meet sticter polution requirements but are not considered to be fuel efficient oils. Mobil 1 0W-30 AFE is fine, and is what I use. If I lived in a cold climate, I might go for Mobil 1 0W-20 AFE.
