  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Things that are making me angry

Our defrost has never come on. Do we even have an automatic defrost? There is no problem though. If we need the defrost, we just put it on. It isn't like the windshield wipers where you have to keep putting them on and putting them off all the time.

Can one of our American friends explain how the automatic defrost works, how they know it's on, etc?

I'm starting to wonder if this is another feature 'omitted' from the Canadian cars, you know, like the leather dash on the 09 V6s...

Probably the thing that irritates me the most is the nag message on the nav screen every time you start the car. I know GripperDon came up with his own solution at some point. I wish there were a professional way to get this removed though...

I have an American 4.6 and I have no idea what they are talking about. lol I must be missing something.

I keep my Climate Control on Auto and my windshield occasionally slowly starts to fog over. I'm not sure the Auto setting ever adjusts to blow over the windshield. If it does, it needs to bias in that direction more often in cold weather.

I have only used the auto wipers once during a rare preseason rain and they seem to work fine. Auto defrost works great. Turns on and off as required. Auto lights bug, too sensitive or not enough delay, something. My 06 Sonata auto lights work perfectly so Hyundai knows how to do it.

I have option level 3 with memory seats but the ease of entry feature only seems to work with the steering wheel, the seat does not go backwards. Is this a fault, lack of some sort of selection, or not available on Opt 2 and 3 with memory seats? Anyone with any ideas?

Hmm, found this in the manual...

Auto defogging system (if equipped) Auto defogging reduces the probability of fogging up the inside of the windshield by automatically sensing the moisture of inside the windshield.

This indicator illuminates when the auto defogging system senses the moisture of inside the windshield and operates.

If more moisture is in the vehicle, the higher steps operate as follows. For
example if auto defogging does not defog inside the windshield at step 1 Outside air position, it tries to defog again at step 2 Blowing air toward the windshield.

Step 1 : Outside air position
Step 2 : Blowing air toward the windshield
Step 3 : Increasing air flow toward the windshield
Step 4 : Operating the air conditioning
Step 5 : Maximizing the air conditioning

Defogging logic

To reduce the probability of fogging up the inside of the windshield, the air intake is controlled automatically according to certain conditions such as [pic] or [pic] position. To cancel or return the defogging logic, do the following.

1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
2. Select the defrost position pressing defrost button ( ).
3. While holding the air conditioning button (A/C) pressed, press the air intake
control button at least 5 times within 3 seconds. The A/C display blinks 3 times with 0.5 second of interval. It indicates that the defogging logic is canceled or returned to the programmed status. If the battery has been discharged or disconnected, it resets to the defog logic status.

So apparently it auto senses the windshield getting fogged up but my comment regarding bias still stands. It needs to be more aggressive, IMO.

As luck would have it, I am presently on the road and this morning, when I left "cold" Hattiesburg MS, my "Automatic Defrost" came on. Here is what happened.

I always have my system set to "Auto". When I checked the INFO screen, I did not see the arrows that normally show where the air is blowing from. (I've never seen it where the arrows don't show the blowing air either coming out from the floor, or the dash vents). The screen did show the word AUTO as it normally does, however in addition, it showed the icon for the defroster. I did a double take, as I've never seen that icon in that screen. After a while, after the car warmed up, the defroster icon went off, only the AUTO word showed up as normal, and the blowing air arrows showed up.

This was the first time I've ever seen this happen. I guess the guys at Hyundai know what they are doing designing this thing.

I'll know more in the morning. I'm spending the night in Bridgeport TX, just north of Fort Worth, and at 5pm, the temperature was 38F and getting colder. Probably will be down around freezing by morning. Will be taking US380 into Roswell tomorrow. Latest weather word is that there will be snow tonight on this road, BUT NOT TOMORROW, as the snow tomorrow will be south of here, on I-10 and into Houston. If I do see snow tomorrow, it should not last long, I HOPE.

I've been playing around with the "auto" feature and have been monitoring it on the INFO screen as well. Do the arrows that show which vents the air is coming out of change at all? Or does it only go on whatever arrow you left it on?

I think it has been changing but I may be confusing myself... I'm always tinkering with the buttons! I'm up here in ME for the weekend, unfortunately we are having record high temperatures here. Back home in MA, Boston was 69 degrees!

When the ambient temperature is very cold, so is the air in the ducts, so the fan doesn't kick in until the air warms up sufficiently to do what you want it to do. Hence, no arrow icon for the first minute or so. I've had this feature in other vehicles with automatic AC.

Another thing, if you start off in AUTO and change the fan speed or the direction of the airflow , the feature you didn't tweak remains automatically controlled.

Things that are making me angry:

-The fact that I can't seem to get a moments peace with this car. Every other time I come out of a restaurant or store I have people gawking at my car or asking me about it. ;)
-The paint is too shiny making it really blindingly bright in the daytime
-The cabin is too quiet. I often find myself going 10-20 mph over the posted speed limit

Nothing makes me angry-
Some things make me go "huh?"
1. Seems to take a bit longer than other cars to get the heat cranking
2. Non-retention of accessory power is dumbfounding
3. Music storage hard-drive
4. DRL's
5. Fold-down rear seats
6. Passager seat controls (I don't car- I hear it from my infrequent passengers
7. Rear foglight

Awaiting my Genny replacement- 2011 Genesis V6 twin-turbo, Brembos with above wish items.

Undoubtedly this is another byproduct of our litigious society. I am not bothered by it because it goes off right away as soon as I hit the DIS controller. The nag message on my Acura RL screen took forever to get rid of and used to drive me crazy.

Let's address the wipers once more. For the first time since I've owned my gennie (Aug 1, 2009), I tried to use the windshield washers......nothing, nada, zip. Checked the manual to be certain I was doing it right....still nothing. Checked the fluid level for washer fluid.....a little low...so I filled it up. Still does not work. Aggrevated .... I go inside the house to call and set up service. :(

Then I began thinking (which can be a dangerous thing to do) and I thought about this forum and the various and sundry "things" that were not removed from our new cars. I went into the garage and popped the hood and inspected where I thought the fluid should spray out and LO and BEHOLD there was tape (of the black duck tape variety) over both of the spray openings!!!!

After removing the tape the washers work well. :D

5. Fold-down rear seats

That one is interesting. Which competitors are you thinking of that have folding rear seats? (The Germans, i.e. 5/E, typically have them as options. I don't think the Lexus GS or Infiniti M have folding rear seats. What else?)

I've noticed that, for example, the Lexus ES doesn't have folding rear seats, even though the Camry it's based on does.

One theory: folding rear seats let more noise/vibration/etc into the cabin, and since they're advertising the Genesis' quietness, they didn't want to make that tradeoff...

FWIW....new Acuras don't have fold down rear seats either.

Not sure why it doesn't- as it is extremely convenient. Audi A6 has rear folders, as well as more of my previous cars. Hey I have an F150 too, but once you have had- you miss it.
Very well may be structural, but even a 40% onesided would be a plus.
Hey, not trading in car yet- wish list for cars to come.

Im sorry, but as much as I like my Genesis.....Its no BMW or Mercedes (which is what I came from E350 4matic)
Its still a Hyundai

The primary reason mfg has given is structural rigidity... By allowing the seats to fold you lose a cross brace point.... in "sporty" cars M series, GS and now Genesis they don't want to make that trade off.
