  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Thinking about 2010 Genesis - got questions

The Tech package does not support Bluetooth A2DP profile (i.e. audio streaming), nor do I believe any other trims on the sedan, except for possibly the Premium Navigation package. Someone in another thread mentioned there was a reference to enabling streaming audio, but they couldn't get it to work. It's aux cable or the Hyundai iPod cable all the way with the Genesis.

I don't think the iPod/Touch/iPhone support this directly. I wonder if you could plug in a bluetooth receiver and sender into the car (in the center arm rest) and on the device to BT the signal between the two hard points.

I would just point out, the V6 doesn't actually work harder because it has more mechanical advantage with the shorter gearing. V6 or V8, you won't be disappointed though.

True...however you have a 4000 lbs. + car. Either way I look at it the V8 has less stress on the engine and gearing than the V6. :p

I guess my thinking has been swayed that way because of what we are doing here at the rocket factory.

We build several different rockets but on the Delta IV Heavy Booster we are going to a stronger engine due to the stress the smaller engine takes during liftoff. We attach so many sensors on the rocket that we can tell you anything you need to know about stress and temperatures.

Im just a quality inspection guy, but Im sure that our engineers and scientist have studied this very extensively and in order to get government approval...it had to be perfect.

Anywho, that is my justification for my comments...even though they may very well be wrong. :o

I don't know about the nav head unit, but if you press "2" on the stereo (non-nav version), that is the random button for shuffling your iPod playlist. It also has the letters "RNDM" on it or something.

hmmm, interesting. I wonder why they wouldn't have incorporated that into the Nav units somehow. Oh well, no big deal to hit shuffle and then connect.

Okay, OT I know, but this is an interesting point. I would just add that between the engine and output, a car has a mechanical advantage factor with what gears are used - something a rocket doesn't have (that I'm aware of). Afterall, the engine "works" at set rpms to move the wheels, but the gears provide leverage to amplify that work to different degrees. The V8 has amore hp and torque than the V6, but the different gearing of the two drivetrains makes them perform more similarly that you'd think.

Great feedback guys. Thanks. I'm still a bit confused about the different Nav options. Can someone explain that?

The 2010 3.8 sedan has two nav options: one is a touchscreen nav that appears to be the same one used in other Hyundai vehicles, and the second is the Harman Becker nav that is part of the Lexicon/Driver Information System in the Technology Package (which is not touchscreen and controlled by a joystick/knob controller by the driver's lap to the right). The Technology Package has the bigger display of the two.

On the 2010 4.6 sedan, the base package comes with the touchscreen nav. The optional Technology Package has the Lexicon/DIS.

I've always considered a touchscreen Nav to be superior to one controlled by a stick or buttons. Is that the case here? If so, that creates a bit of a dilemma. If you want the tech pkg goodies, you get an inferior Nav with it (or am I missing something)?

Touchscreen = fingerprints on the display and wear through of the coating over time from repeated presses.

However, I haven't used both systems, so I can't say which is a better nav. The nav on the Tech package is certainly not the worst factory nav I've seen (and at least it lets you use most of the functions while the car is in motion), but it's not the best one out there. Most $100 portable nav units today can do the same or more.

The sound system on the Tech package is one of the best OEM systems available today. And the Tech package has an HD Radio tuner while the touch nav package does not.
