  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Time to say goodbye...

I have to say I am extremely impressed with this car. Major step forward in and out compared to old platform E65/66.
Interior is showcase of high quality materials that give one the feel of a true luxury sedan. The cockpit gives me a sense of security I never experience before. The ride is quiet, steady and undisturbed by uneven pavement. No wind noise whatsoever. I ride on 20 inch wheels (Sport Package) with RFT.
If this car is so quiet with RFT i only wonder how better the ride will get on regular tires (RFT's are notorius for being noisy to a certain degree).
This car seems to be on rails. No bodylean whatsoever. Bumps on the road are absorbed to the point where they can be neglected.
Power comes very linear and the torque (450 lb) does make any passing task a breeze.
This car is a CPO, warranty until November 2017. I cross my fingers and hope for the best!;)

So glad to hear you are enjoying the new ride. :) Is there any comparisons you would care to share?

I personally do not think a direct comparison between two cars is fair. Each one is among the best in its class.
They both have pluses and minuses. There is no such thing like perfect car ;)

Yes, I agree; they are in two different leagues. While a head to head comparison is not really fair; I was wondering if there are some things that you felt the Genesis did/had that exceed its expectations for the price, and what influenced your decision to move up.

I think Genesis has a fantastic engine. Smooth, quiet and powerful. I would also give a tumbs up to tranny although I think the 6 speed is better than existing 8 speed tranny that is found on 2012+ Genesis.
Suspension...yada..yada...still needs a lot of work. Unexcusable amount of body movement for a car that targets the luxury/sport segment of the market.
My 2 cents :)

For myself a head to head comparison is fair.......My benchmark is reliability. If a car spends more time at the dealer getting fixed, I could care a less how much it 'hugs the road' and 'how it handles'.

So far my Genesis has been Flawless going on 3 years. I just don't see that reliability with German Cars. When they don't have to be 'Fixed' all the time, I may consider one.

Spot on, the 6 speed ZF transmission was the same exact transmission that BMW used in the 5 series. One thing that bothers me now, is the 4 cyl turbo that BMW is putting in the 5 series (and 3) as their base engine. Pretty heavy car (5 series) for a 4 cyl., no matter how much torque.

Absolutely agree on both counts. The 5.0 just pulls... and pulls hard. Downshifts with the 8 speed are a "pack a lunch" experience.
Suspension..... well, it works well on the freeway, let's just leave it at that. ;)

I am glad you are having such a wonderful experience; it makes car ownership a joy. While I agree that reliability is important, some (including myself) simply cannot discount the fun factor, and how a car makes you feel.

Agreed. According to the stats however the new generation 7 series (2009+) seems to be a lot more reliable than its predecessor. Judging by how complex these cars are I thing Germans did pretty well.

I have read that, but what is unexplainable is that the latest generation X5 with the V8 is ranked among the most expensive and troublesome cars to drive - period. It's largely the same car as the 750, so I don't get it.

Yanno, that's a pretty fair and accurate assessment imho. Perhaps the 2015 model will bring the necessary improvements.

Ok so doing a quick search I came up with the following.

'13 BMW M5 100K
0-60 4.5
1/4 12.5
G's .92

'13 R Spec 46K
0-60 5.1
1/4 13.7
g's .87

So is it really worth the extra 50K +?

actually. the 2013 m5 will do 0-60 in less than 3.7 sec and 1/4 mile 11.9. that's what MT got while testing the m5 a few months ago. a total tech beast the m5 is. the 550 with the dinan 3rd stage will get 4.4 sec 0-60. so when it comes to performance, i don't think it's fair to even compare the 2.

My opinion of BMW is based on ownership and my son, previously a BMW master tech. My son,"best cars in the world for about 18 months." They clearly are the best handling passenger vehicles made, just go test drive one,
the're different.

The trouble is the BMW business model. The $30,000 price premium is essentially paying up front for all of the so called "free bumper to bumper maintenance." The factory knowingly sends models to dealers with
design and engineering issues. They then use ownership to workout solutions. Cutting edge innovation is always a crap shoot.

:rolleyes:They simply transfer the inconvenience to the consumer. The factory then acts like an insurance company by challenging dealer warranty claims squeezing the technicians reimbursement. Who gets to keep the $ 30,000 premium, dealer vs factory all the while you are not driving your car.

Specifically the 7 series are electrical nightmares. My son would pull the dash
once a month on a new 7 for various reasons.

Conclusion, never buy used. Only new lease no more than 24 months.

What I really like about my Genesis apart from being perfectly reliable, luxurious, powerful, well equipped and a great value is everybody wants to know what kind of car it is. Yes it has the wing treatment and yes here they are far and few between and not like Florida where they seem to be as common as corollas. We have Mercedes and BMW dealerships in my city and my lord it seems like every other car is either just another Mercedes or BMW. Especially any of the 3 or 5 series BMW, about as common as Fords. No fun having what everybody else has and not having to pay an exorbitant premium is kinda cool also. :D Something about this car just rubs me the right way, normally I change cars every 3 years and will do so again but I think I will keep this one for just Sunday drives or a "fun car" if you prefer. This car is just sexy for lack of a better word.

Yeah not a lot of Genesis Sedan in Canada.

For those saying the Genney dosen't hug the road, maybe you need to try changing tires. ;) I did and it made a big difference in handling twisty mountain roads. :)

GJEMD, what you state is unacceptable. I don't know why anyone would want to put up with that type of bussiness practice. I work in test and Evaluation for Navy Combat Systems. And if that was the thought we had, I'd feel sorry for the guys going into harms way. So why would it be Ok to build a car company that way? Espically if your speending that kind of money on one. If it dosen't work, then fix it before you put it on the market.

No one has been able to beat BMW’s M cars (particularly the M3 and M5) in all-around performance. .

The Current "Best Driver" is actually the CTS-V. The updated M F10 is a little quicker but the feel is diminishing just like this new F30 that is getting slammed. Check around in the mags.. you will see how it does as an old model against this new F10.. even without it being updated. The AMG also beats the BMW's quite often from what I remember.
