If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I have a 2010 Sterling Blue Genesis and would like a recommendation on a tint color that goes well with both The Sterling Blue Genesis and my Silver 04 SL500.

Also what percent so that it is not too dark but effective.

Thanks

Is your goal to have a little privacy or barely any at all? Also, is heat rejection high in priority for you?

If yes, you might want to consider a ceramic film. It has the highest heat rejection properties out of any film.

If you're trying to avoid going too dark, maybe 35% would be fine for you, and this is the legal limit in your state.

What color is the ceramic tint?

Depends on the manufacturer. I have Formula One Pinnacle (ceramic) on a Platinum Genesis, and I think it would look fine on a blue car. Keep in mind that ceramic films are not "dyed" a particular color (although they are not always completely neutral), and that is why they will never fade or change color like some cheaper films. The nano-particles inside a ceramic film reflect heat, but do not interfere with electronic signals like metallic films. Dyed films only absorb light and heat, and have relatively less heat reflection properties compared to ceramic or metallic films. Go to a tint shop and get a ceramic sample to look at.

There are not many QUALITY tints there. For ceramics - Pinnacle Formula One and Huper Optic. Then there are Madico Wincos and 3M Crystalline. They are not a ceramic or metallic, but a nano multi-layered films that perform exceptionally. The only downside to Wincos is the slight blue hue you see from the inside, and the greenish hue you see from the outside.
Llumar ATX are not bad, bit just a notch below Pinnacle Formula One (which is also owned by Llumar).
I'm yet to get my car tinted, and I'm kind of a person who likes to research it a lot :-)

Huper Optic does have good specs, but it is a lot thicker than any other film (the lower in %% you go, the thicker it gets), and proper installation plays a huge role. I've read very mixed reviews on Huper Optic. You either love it or hate it. It may have an excellent heat rejection, but I don't think I want to take a risk to end up in "hate it" group. Also, Huper Optic tint is ceramic like the Pinnacle, but it has been determined to be significantly more conductive than Pinnacle. That conductivity can cause radio reception issues and other interference problems.

So I'm choosing between Pinnacle Formula One and 3M Crystalline.
There is only one authorized Formula One installer in my area and a few 3M installers. Installation of 3M is more expensive, but not by much. Pinnacle will make the windows look darker than 3M, and on black/black car any tint will appear darker even if going legal limit.

I'm still contemplating whether I want to put anything on the windshield. If so, then only 3M Crystalline or Llumar AirBlue, as both make almost transparent tints. MD only allows 5" strip on the top, but in my opinion having tint on the windshield will play a big role in total heat reduction. I've read that on some windshields the tint may distort the view, thus the hesitation.

Here are the specs for both tints.
1. Solar Energy Rejection
2. UV Rejection
3. Visible Light Transmission
4. Glare Reduction
5. Visible Light reflection
6. Infrared Rejection

You are correct about the Huper Optik. It was developed (and is most used for) commercial buildings and high-end residences, hence its thickness is not usually a problem in those installations where windows are flat. The percentage of Huper Optick film (by square ft) installed on vehicles is very small compared to commercial building installations.

I've got the 3M product on my Genesis 4.6. Living in Tucson I put it on mainly for heat reduction. 40 on the sides, back, & sunroof -- 80 on the windshield. It is INVISIBLE on the windshield but REALLY reduces the heat. I did a lot of research before I bought and I'm very happy with the 3M product.

I assume you are talking about 3M Crystalline? How is the driving with this tint being on a windshield day and night? Any distortion? Do you see anything different?

Yep... it is the 3M Crystalline product. There is no distortion from the windshield tint and no problem at all driving at night. As mentioned, the 80 is just about invisible and you never notice it while driving day or night... except for the reduction in heat. I would not go any darker then 70 on the front windshield. In most states it is illegal to even tint the windshield. Any darker and it may be visible which would impair night driving and also have the possibly of attracting attention from "law enforcement" (depending on the local and customs).

The 3M tint has a lifetime warranty on both the product and the installation, at least from the installer I used. I did look at the other heat reduction products, mainly the Huper Optik product. Both are good, but there is only 1 Huper Optik dealer locally and he wasn't competitive on price.

That is such a unique color I am not sure what goes great with it.

I have a 2010 4.6 Sapphire Blue Pearl and have Formula One Pinnacle (ceramic) 28% all around. It really looks unbelievable great. I drove into the hotel lobby lasat week and pulled up next to a brand new BMW 535 with a similar color and my tint just blew his car away.

The BMW forum also speaks highly of the Formula One Pinnacle (ceramic). Many owners have it. The 28% is great. Make sure it is legal. I have no trouble driving at night.

I have a 11 Sterling Blue 4.6 and went with the Huper Optic 40%. Used the Pinnacle 35% on other cars (SUVs) to match the factory tint. The Huper Optic takes a little longer to install and it also takes longer to dry.

The color of the interior changes the outside appearance of tint. The cream color leather reflects light in the Genny where the dark grey leather in my Armada does not.

The other thing I'm concerned regarding windshield installation is IR rejection. 3M Crystalline 70′s IR (infrared) rejection is about 97%+. Unfortunately this also means that SmartTag system could possibly not work with 3M.

I believe the 3M film would be just fine with the SmartTag system. Just avoid a metallic film since that would not help the electronic tag.

I just had the 3m Crystalline 40 put on the back and all 4 doors, and the Crystalline 70 on the windshield. It's great stuff. From what I've learned, the Crystalline rejects as much or more heat than any other tint out there, without needing to be as dark on the windows. The Crystalline 40 is legal on all the windows (other than windshield) here in Florida and (in my opinion) is light enough to provide a classy look.

No issues at all with distortion, etc. on the windshield, and nobody would even know the Crystalline 70 is on there unless I told them.

It's not cheap stuff, but it REALLY makes a difference with the heat down here in Florida. I'm very happy that I spend a bit extra for this product.

I've got a 2012 titanium/gray metallic 4.6 if that makes any difference.

You want heat, try out here in SE Az...LoL....I'm using a darker ceramic tint and it works great here in reducing heat and UV damage. ALL legal limit, and a tint strip across the top of the front windshield.

It's what YOU want and how you want your car to look. I can't tell you which one to get....I like the darker tint 'cause it looks good on our 12 Pearl White Genny....if you don't wanna look like a gang banger, then go with the lighter tint.

What % did you go with on the glass and also the windshield strip?

Here's a pic of my car with 3M Crystalline 40 all around and 70 on the windshield (not in pic, obviously).Genesis back.webp

I love my Huper Optik ESC 35:)

(note the overcast is causing the tint to cast a much more reflective hue)

It's a darker tint, but since it's out of the range of vision, completely legal here in AZ. About the only thing I think it would affect would be if you were trying to watch a Drive In movie without the benefit of a humped parking space to nose up the car. I didn't bother to ask, but the shop (due to liability issues) does not do anything illegal and are the shop of choice for most of the dealers around here. It's a dark strip, prob 6" wide, but at top of windshield. He said it was darkest he could do as its' not in range of vision.
