Tips on getting a "new" Genesis

It looks like all the Parisian Grey tech package Genesises are at CarMax...

2016 Genesis | Ext - Parisian Gray | Int - Black Leather | Signature Pkg | Tech Pkg

Is that Parisian Grey? Tech or Ultimate?

And that's something else I'm wondering about. 99% probability I'll be getting it from a Hyundai dealer (which means CPO) but if I get a non-CPO with an extended warranty, what's the diff?

Hey all - I'm considering picking up a 2015 Genesis this year. My guess is that the market is about to be somewhat flooded by off-lease 2015s, so I'm hoping to snag a Tech package model for around $25K at some point. Would it be foolish to buy from a place like Carmax where I can't get the CPO designation? Forfeiting the rest of that warranty feels kind of painful...

That's where I started my search. But I don't think Carmax can match the prices at the dealerships. And, as you said, apart from the powertrain warranty on the CPOs, I think a wrap extended warranty would be better from most dealers than the Carmax warranty. Just about the only problem with the dealerships is that for the most part, they sell mostly Ultimate trims. I had a tough time getting one with the Tech package. Carmax had a couple of Tech Package cars (BTW, you will have to go and check out the car yourself. They have no idea what packages their cars have). A quick way to check for these Genesis is to Go to the Carfax and see the original MRP. If it's ~39K, it's base. ~43K for Signature. ~47K for Tech and ~49K for Ultimate. You can't rely on descriptions and features on non dealer sites. Good luck. I love my Genesis. Bought it exactly one month ago.

You're right on the Ultimate trims at dealerships. I have found a fair number with the Tech package but pricing seems to be all over the place. I found one for $24K, under 40K miles with Tech but I think someone just bought it. I've seen others with Tech for $27K+. And Carmax does seem to price these higher in general.

Since I'm not in a rush, maybe I should just keep an eye out during the summer/fall as the off-lease ones start rolling in.

I paid ~25K drive out for my Genesis (minus warranty). The Carmax prices were around 26K. Since you are not in a hurry, you are in the best negotiating position. The 2015s have been rolling off leases at a steady clip. I'm not sure that you are going to have a lot of 2015s rolling off leases in the fall. These cars must have started selling in the fall of 2014 and the 2016s would have just started 3 years ago. You may start seeing some 2016s coming off leases in fall. Mine was a 2016. Incredible that the original owner put 45K miles in 2 years. I generally drive 7-8K a year!

You're right about the 2016s coming in starting this fall. I guess if I can't find the right 2015 this summer I could just pick up 2016 later in the year/early next year.

Did I read somewhere that on the 2016 Ultimates, you can add Android Auto? I know that's not possible on the 2015 model.

You can have Android Auto and Ultimate together only on 2018 onwards unfortunately

OK, thanks Nash. Pretty sure that steers me toward the Tech package, although the HUD and the matte wood are pretty sweet...

This is basically where I am, looking for a Tech package so I can get CarPlay. Carmax has a better selection, since it's nationwide, but their prices are about the same as the asking prices at the dealerships. So you'll see them asking $25k-30k depending on mileage, and, presumably, what they paid for it. I asked the local CarMax what it would cost for an extended warranty on a Genesis, and it wasn't that much. Around $1500 for six years (from YOUR date of purchase) and 100k miles (total mileage on the car). From what I've read, their warranty is pretty solid. In fact, they had "the car" that I was looking for (blue/beige, tech package, 3.8, RWD). Only $250 to have it shipped here, but they were asking over $28k for it. And it sold before I could even do anything about it.

The easier way to tell if it's got the tech package from the pictures is: tech & ultimate have the plastic cover on the front bumper to protect the sensors. The ultimate has the dial on the center console, while the tech package has one button on the center bar. If it's a 5.0, you'll see little squares under the headlights where the washers spray from, and the AWD will have extra buttons on the center console for the heated steering wheel (something like that, anyway). If it wasn't so late, I'd grab some pictures to show you what I'm talking about.

My local dealer is looking for that blue tech package for me. I can wait, although I may get impatient and get a different color if the right price came along...

I was under the impression that the AWD is the only one that comes with headlight washers? Mine is an AWD and I have headlight washers so the easiest way to tell a 5.0 would probably be the quad exhaust tips

No sunroof is base. The dial in the console is Ultimate. But I was totally unable to distinguish between the Signature and Tech package from just the photos. I thought that there is one button in the center console on the Signature package as well. But if the show the buttons behind the steering wheel, then the lane keep button identifies the Tech Package. The parking sensors are not always visible on the photos. I just found the sticker price as the fastest way to identify it.

I found that Carvana has similar prices to Carmax.

Here are some pix. You can tell signature from tech by the plastic cover on the grille.

And you'll see all of the buttons to the left of the steering wheel, and this button config on the central consoleIMG_0871.webpIMG_0872.webpIMG_0874.webpIMG_0875.webp

How do you distinguish between Tech Package and Signature in the center console? The LKA button on the panel behind the steering wheel isn't always pictured. But the center console is. And I don't know what buttons are present in the Tech that aren't present in the Signature.

Here's the signature console.

I'd offer 28 and hope to get it for 28.5 or so. Even 29 would not be too bad. See how much tread is on the tires too, they .should be decent yet and goo for another 10,000 miles/

My basis is my 2015. I traded it with 39,000 miles and the dealer sold it for 27. This is a model year newer and less miles so it should sell for more.

Picked it up tonight for 27,749. An exhausting day!

Congrats! Is that Empire State or Parisian?

I saw a 5.0 in Ibiza blue, and I think that's the color I want now. But I don't want a 5.0, and scanning teh inter webs it looks like they're most commonly found as Ultimate packages, which I don't want...
