  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tire pressure

I just bought a 2016 Genesis. I believe with the stock tires. Placard on the door jam says 33psi but at that pressure the tires look downright flat? Anyone have any suggestions on this? They came at 42psi from Carmax.

The pressure on the door placard is the cold tire pressure (after car has been sitting for several hours). They'll warm up as you drive and pressure will go up. Starting at 42 psi cold is too high.

42 PSI when cold will cause the tire to wear out fast and give a rougher ride.
My car is at 33 cold, rises up to 36-38 after two hours of high driving(80 mile per hours in Texas) and I still have a smooth ride.
I have found that after a dealer rotation, the tires are over inflated as they inflate them while the car is lifted up...one would think they would be trained on the effects of weight on the tire but seems not to be at my service dealer shop. I wait until the next morning then deflate the tires to 33 psi. Not a big deal but annoying as it is harder to deflate a tire to the correct psi then inflate a tire to the correct psi I have found.

On other vehicles (I don't rotate on my 5.0) I've rotated my own tires because I'd never had a dealer or shop do it that inflated to the correct PSI or torqued the lugs to spec. That told me all I needed to know about those places.

Probably due to Hyundai increasing the tire pressure to 35/38.

I run 34 on all four wheels in the summer. Gets really hot here in South Florida!
