In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello,

So, I have the same issue many have had with the dunlop 5000... I have an 09 tech package 235/50/18.

I am in Dayton, Ohio (please other ohioians chime in) and trying to pick the best tires. I have just recently moved here so I hear there is not that much snow, so I am thinking not the snow tires but all seasons...

Any thoughts? Please feel free to let me know. I want to try to take advantage of the black friday sales. I am not trying to spend too much though I am jumping the broom next year :)

What type of driving and comfort/soft ride vs responsive steering and a little harsher ride?

There are two types of tires.

1. Ultra high performance all season tires
2. High performance all season

I have the General GMax tire and it is an Ultra. Ride is harder, steering is firm and the car feels planted to the road.

Bridgestone Serenity is High Performane all season and would ride a little softer.

I purchased a new set of wheels for my Genesis and went from 17” stock wheel to 18” wheels. That put me in the market for a new set of shoes for my Genesis. I had a hard time with a thousand dollars for tires, so I did a little looking around for what was available.

My searches lead me to General G-Max ZR18 tires. The Continental tire company bought General back in the late 90s along with Uniroyal and continues to manufacture tires under those brand names.

The bottom line is I purchased these tires (General G-Max ZR225-50-18) for $574 delivered to the door from http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/home.do?vid=018638&yr=2011.

General G-max 03s comes with a 45 day Customer Satisfaction Trial. If you don’t love them they will replace them.

I live in Florida so my main concern I wet and dry traction, quite smooth ride and a good preforming tire at a reasonable price, but they also perform well in light snow.

I have had these tries since June of 2012. The tires have about 6K miles on them and I’m very satisfied with them.

IMPO for half the price and a 45 day Customer Satisfaction Trial they might be worth a look.

Thanks for the information! I noticed this post on another thread and wanted to contact you. I see you went down to 225 from 235. Did you notice a difference? What made you change?

The 225 were the original size that came with the car except the wheels where 17 inch. I went to 18 inch wheels and was concerned with clearance with the 235s even though they come stock with the 4.6 V8s.

The 225s seem to fit just right with enough room that you don’t have to worry about rubbing under any conditions.

They have a foot print of 8 inches of rubber on the road inflated to 33 psi. I am very satisfied with these tires and would recommend them.

The first time I drove on these tires they performed like night and day over the Dunlops and stick to the road like velcro.

By the way Discount tire direct has a black Friday deal with an additional $50 off.

Thanks for the heads up on the $50.00 off for Black Friday at Discount Tire. I ordered 4 Hankook Vetus V12 Evo K110. I got (2) 245/40/20 and (2) 275/35/20 delivered for $740.00.

I assume that the 245/40/20 are going on the rear wheels. It looks like you will be running a little slower than your indicated speed. Here’s a hyperlink to a site to calculate your speedometer indication vs. wheel and tire size. http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

I would image that 245’s might be tight on a Genesis and would interested in seeing any pictures you might take after you install your new tires.

No the 245's are going on the front and the 275's on the rear. Once they are mounted up I'll post pics. Already calculated the speedo difference. It will be running about 2 MPH slower than actual.

I drive a Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track now, but I previously had a 3.8 Sedan. After the factory Dunlops (2009 model) wore out, I replaced them with Nitto Premium-something-or-another tires. I was very pleased with the tires and their overall performance. They were slighly noisier (is that a word??) than the Dunlops, but worn out, the Nittos tracked better than the Dunlops did new! Guess I had to make use of the Lexicon stereo system's volume knob a little bit! I bought the set here locally (East Tennessee) a few years back for about $800 installed. We're fortunate in this area that there are a few tire dealers that, comparing a fully-installed deal from Tirerack or other similar places, to a local shop that will provide, install and service, finished prices aren't much different. I always purchase (if not already included) lifetime balance/rotation, which was included in this price. Nitrogen was also included. Hopefully you'll find similar good fortune in your market. My Coupe now has Hankook Ventus evos on them as the factory Potenzas wore out a few months ago. I've also been pleased with them. I haven't checked, but you might see if they have a suitable sized product for the sedans.

Best of luck--

Dan :>)

Thank you all for your help....I was stuck between the General Gmax and the Kumho x4.

I chose the Kumho as it appears to have a little longer life and no one carried it here locally and would have to order.

Thanks again!!

I have worked in the tire industry for over 20 years, never working for Michelin but I would install the 2012 Michelin OE tire on your Genesis for the best mileage and performance combination. Tire performance is a true "inverse" relationship. More traction = less mileage, longer mileage = less traction. You have to find the best tire for your driving style and conditions. I am more into a nice ride and mileage vs. performance so I like the Michelin tire a lot. Michelin seems to have some of the most uniform products in the market as well, expensive but worth it at a cost per mile valuation. Good luck with your choice, most companies have a 30 day ride guarantee so if you don't like them take them off and try something else.

I have a 2012 5.0 and put 8 1/2 x 20 with 245 x 40 on it and at 40 mph all the radars in my area on the poles say it is right on. Mine had 235 x 50 x 18 on it at 27.3 inches tall. The 245 x 20 is 27.6 tall and the 275 x 35 is 27.6 inches tall. I did a lot of checking on sizes the only thing I would do different is 9 1/2 x 20 on the rear with 275 x 35 tires.
