Ok guys a question for you.

I just had my first tire rotation and the dealer noted that I have about 30% life left on the tread.

So I have 10k tires....

Anyone else seeing short tire life?


For the record no burnout or drifting.....

OEM tires are known to have short thread life. Lowest bidder and all...

15k miles on a set of OEM tires isn't exceptionally low for a RWD.

When I looked for information about the Dunlop SP Sport 5000 M tires on my Genesis it seemed like most people reported around 20-25K miles was all they could get with perhaps a few reporting getting close to 30K.

As for my own experience with these tires on my Genesis, I expect to roll past 18K miles later this week and I'd say my tires are over 50% gone so I expect to get somewhere between 25-30K.

Did they happen to tell you what your actual tread depth was?

I was just going to comment on the crappy treadlife of the OEM Dunlops. I have less than 6k miles on the Dunlops (I use different tires in the winter). I just checked out the tires while cleaning the car the other day and noticed that the rear tires look about 50% worn/the fronts are probably about 40%.

No worries though. I can't wait to ditch them for something better anyway. Right now I'm leaning towards these as a replacement (quite pricey, but well-reviewed): http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...ed_rating=Y&speed_rating=(Y)&minSpeedRating=H

HA!!! You dont even want to see the tires on my V8.

I had them rotated a few weeks ago and was SHOCKED!!! I thought at first it was over pressurized but all four were at 33 psi.

Yes, the stock dunlops stink!

Wow, those Serenitys are pricey alright. Do you really need all-season radials if you're planning to use winter tires? A summer tire might be the better bet.

My OEM Dunlops have 10,500 on them right now and the rears look a little less than half-way gone. I expect they'll last to right around 20K-25K.

When my wife bought her BMW one of the options was 18 inchers. The salesman actually talked her out of that, saying she'd have to replace them after 15-20K.
That didn't disuade me from the Genny though, as I expect to only have 20-22K at 27 months.

So many factors go into the tread life of tires. It is true that the Dunlops have a less the average life according to the experts. But driving style, tire pressures, road surfaces, passenger/cargo loads, etc. have quite a bit to do with it. So I would guess we will see mileage figures all over the board based on those factors.

I might not "need" all-season tires since I have separate snow tires, but I am leaning towards the Bridgestone's because of their high ratings in noise comfort/ride comfort/treadwear. No other 235/50/18 tire I've seen is better reviewed.

I've used the Pilot Sport A/S for years on my Lincoln LS and always gotten between 35-40K miles. I'm sure I'll switch to these once the Dunlops give out.

Must be the style of driving. I have over 7500 miles on mine. Have not rotated tires yet, and don't know if I will. (I've been known to just change the fronts, or rears, as needed).

I took a good look at my tires when my dealer had the car on the lift to change the oil. Did not measure, however, they still look like new.

When the day comes that I change tires, I will probably go with the BFG KDWS, as I've had them before, and they wear great, plus good grip. Many Ford products (Mustang's with the 18" wheels) come with them, plus the Mercury Marauder I had also came with them. BFG has another tire called the KDW, but it has a more agressive tread and does not wear as good as the KDWS.

When I picked up my leased 3.8 a month ago, I decided (based on my past experiance with OEM tires) or buy a set of General's from tire rack and saqve the OEM's to be put back on at turn in time.
When getting them mounted at dealer I was questioned as to why, they seemed to be suprised that I expected so few miles outof them.

The opnions expresed here make me feel good about my decision.
I'll get to ware out the better generals and give them back the OEM's looking like new.

I understand performance tires, I expect lower mileage on a set. but 10k means I am buying tires 3 times a year.....next set will not be dunlops.....

I have 12,600 mile on my Genesis PP and just had the tires rotated, normal tire wear only. I should get 40K or so from my Dunlops, that includes one trip to the track as well as normal driving.

I had a set of those. Great tires, but, very very very very noisy, Quiet when first installed but after a few hundred miles, they really howl on some roads.
