If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have 17,400 miles on my 2009 4.6 Genesis. Every 3K to 5K, I get the factory Dunlop tires rotated. I went in for my 4th tire rotation today and the boys at Discount brought me 3 tires that had worn down to the inner tread in the inside rim. Pics attached.
They warned me that wear to this level was unsafe. I went to the dealer who remarked he had seen wear like this on another vehicle but this owner had never rotated his tires and had 20K on them.
I would also like to add that these tires seem to be getting “noisier” as they wear. Being hearing challenged, I marveled at being able to carry on a normal conversation while driving. Now, road noise has seemingly elevated itself…Only thing I can think of…Tire wear and maybe this is part of it.
Bottom line- I think the engineers in Korea need to see this and make remedial suspension enhancements.
Tell me your thoughts, folks.

I suggest a 4 wheel alignment. Not unheard of that the 4 corners get out of true. At about 20K on my tires I began to hear (notice) tire noise. I just rotated again- see in a few thousand miles if it self corrects.

Would agree with Streets about getting a tire alignment for all wheels. Rotating tires does not prevent uneven wear if there is a misalignment. Normal driving, hitting potholes, etc. can cause the a non-spec alignment. It's just normal maintenance to have the alignment checked every 12,000 miles or so IMO. Also whenever tires are rotated look for uneven wear patterns.

If both edges are wearing prematurely the tires may be underinflated for your driving style. If center tread is worn more than the tires may be overinflated. The Tire Pressure Monitor is not a wear preventer just psi.

Our wheels have some negative camber right? If I'm not mistaken negative camber can cause heavier wear where you are seeing it. Could it be that his have too much negative camber causing the heavy wear on the inside?

Are you saying this wear happened just in the last 3-5K miles? That's pretty fast and would suggest some sort of "trauma" (pothole?) that knocked you out of allignment as suggested above.
If it wasn't in the last 3-5K, why didn't the Discount boys show it to you before it became unsafe?
Thanks.

When I changed out my tires at 23k (rotated every 5k) the back tires were the worst wear as my tire guy said because it is RWD they tend to wear out quickest. Road noise had gradually increase with a slight thud. I was going to just change the back two but I realized that I wanted to have the best driving experience possible with my Genesis so I sprang for 4 Bridgestone Touranza at $1060 and have been very happy ever since.

Which Turanza's? since there are about 20 models. I had a set of Potenza G019 Grids- they became noisy at 20K

To see that much wear in so few miles would have to be something really out in the alignment, or even damaged suspension parts. Have a "good" service department really check it out before throwing new tires on it.

Your car needs a Four Wheel Alignment. Get it done at your Hyundai dealer, not at a tire dealer. (See below)

My OEM Dunlop Sport SP5000m tires still had a lot of tread left on them, however around 24,000miles, I noticed that I was getting a "thump thump" sounding like a broken belt. Had my Hyundai dealer check it out, and he could not see any damage on the tires, but while there, I had a Four Wheel Alignment done. Took a trip, and the "Thump thump" got worse, so even though I still had plenty of tread left, I went to a local tire shop, and purchased four Pirelli PZero-Nero tires. This tire dealer does the Road Force Balance and an Alignment Check at no additional cost. Their Alignment Check showed that one of my rear wheels was way out of alighment. Needless to say, I did not believe them as I just had the alignment done a few weeks earlier. Went back to my Hyundai dealer, and they checked it for me again. There was nothing wrong with the alignment.
The tire dealer either had something wrong with his alignment machine, or they just expected me to get the car aligned as the car was already on their lift. (Make more money from me). I told them that I was in a rush to get home, and that I would return at a later date. (I lied).

As I've said before in this BB, I love the Service Department at my Hyundai Dealer (Orlando Hyundai) and I trust the Genesis Tech. (They have at least two Genesis trained techs, but I always have Mark work on my car). These guys treat me like a king.

Response: Tire Wear- Very peculiar and unsafe

And yes, this wear happened in the last 3-5K since they didn't bring to my attention nor did I notice when I had then last rotated.
This is the beginning of my first set of dis-satisfaction with the Genesis. Let's see how their techs handle it.

Looks like negative camber wear. My bimmer had the same. Most sport-tuned suspensions are setup like that. A little negative camber is needed to get the best tire performance in the twisties. The sacrifice is uniform tire wear. Too much negatice camber can be a bad thing. A proper alignment should address the issue.

There is another possibility; the tire dealer is correct and the Hyundai dealer did not do the alignment correctly.
