  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi All,

Hope to get some insight from the group on how much value a CPO Genesis is. I have been looking at several 2012's and 2013's with less than 40,000 miles and it appears that a Non CPO Genesis is substantially cheaper (many times more that 3 - 4k cheaper). I have also noticed several of the CPO's and Non CPO's were rental cars at some point in time and would love some opinions on that as well.

Any perspective from those that have purchased a CPO and those that went without a CPO and their experience with their vehicle would be very helpful

I have been a huge fan of the Genesis for many years and am now in the position to pull the trigger. Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

Welcome! First of all, here's something to take a look at. That link lists the advantages of going CPO.

If you're looking at a Genesis that has the DIS and Lexicon system, personally I'd go with the CPO model and then I'd also add HPP (Hyundai Protection Plan) on it to cover the electronics. It costs more, but if I'm not mistaken the DIS head unit is like $4K. It's not that it's likely to malfunction, but it's certainly not unheard of either.

IMO, CPO is only valuable if you get the base model. CPO does NOT cover any of the electronics of a premium or tech pkg, you will need the HPP Platinum warranty for that - even it does not cover them all, but most are covered.

Having a CPO car, does save you a little on the purchase of the warranty, but only a few $100s. Do a search for "Extended Warranty" on this site and read the threads.

This. I purchased HPP Platinum for ~$2k and had the amplifier replaced once...and that was ~$3k so it has paid for itself all ready.

I guess I was thinking (incorrectly, apparently) that if you didn't CPO you wouldn't get the 10 yr/100K warranty and that you wouldn't be able to buy the HPP on the vehicle. Whatever I needed to do to get the HPP, I'd do.

I got the HPP on mine because I felt that it would pay for itself if one or two things need to be replaced. Knowing my luck though nothing will need replacing until after 10 years/100k miles.

Personally I prefer the peace of mind that a CPO gives, I would prefer to have that peace of mind and never use it then need it and not have it.

Just another thought for you...

With a non-CPO, keep in mind you will lose the 10/100 powertrain coverage. It will stop at 5/60 when the b-to-b stops. Also note that b-to-b is really not as it sounds. If you get a premium or tech pkg car, most of the fancy electronics will be covered only until 3/36, which is why you should by the HPP immediately if you get one of the pkgs.

Good luck...as you can see this forum is full of great info and opinions, but you have to do your homework.

My dealer sold 3rd party lifetime extended warranties through CNA. I bought the CNA PCL from them when I bought my genesis used. It's a big money maker for the dealers, but a car like the Genesis it's a good piece of mind.
