  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

To those thinking of purchasing a Genesis:Hyundai doesn't care to replace LEMONS

I am about sick of the negativity of this thread. Smelled fishy from the get go. Only lemon I smell is the pucker faces whining Hyundai doesn't love them.
DIS aside (a computer basically that we have all read that dealers swap out even if it aint broke) and no free loaner (perhaps that is what the extra $10K of the Lexus buys).
BIG TIME- Genesis is a fine car.

Glad you got a good one... maybe this douche /\ should learn how to read.... really, a bad computer and no loaner. I wish those were my only problems with this car. I'm sending my letter of last repair attempt notice certified to Hyundai today. We'll see if they will actually be able to fix all these problems this time, or replace the car. I'll let you guys know. Oh yeah... the rep tried to blame the problems on when I wrecked the car into a huge pothole and screwed up the suspension 2 months ago, when the service dates clearly show that the majority of these problems started long before then.

Hang it there.... It's a process to get your money back. All the automakers do this. They will not take you seriously until you sue them.

Hey Chiro- I can read just fine- wasn't necessarily just commenting on you. I know you don't like the suspension- a little to rough after getting in the ass for so many years? You modified of the suspension then busting it in a HUGE pot hole. Of course that is Hyundai's fault- THEY were driving. Truth is no one likes you and is why the service guys and reps silence you like your X-wife. I am betting you car doesn't even like you- which is most likely the reason it is giving you grief. Am I reading you perfectly bud?

I never modified the suspension... don't know where you got that... and never said it was Hyundai's fault. I love the suspension on this car, and it was fixed up just fine. Sounds like you enjoy taking up the ass from Hyundai reps, maybe you are in bed with them, or one of their reps, and you're just upset cuz I'm ragging on your boyfriend... who knows. You're getting awfully emotionally involved in a post that doesn't even have anything to do with your car. But that's the beauty of anonymity in these posts for guys like you I guess.... you can pretend to be straight and rag on others making gay jokes, while knowing if you were standing in front of me without the shield of the internet and miles between us you'd be feeling like my car did after hitting that pothole. Or have you not noticed the many other posts with people having the same issues as me. You love your car.... fine, go make love to it. But for others not sleeping with Hyundai reps, this post is for them to warn them of the many problems I've had and that others chiming in have also had, with Hyundai trying to ignore the problems. Honestly, why should I go through all this hassle with Hyundai without voicing my concerns... would you? Probably not, cuz the Hyundai rep would tell you that if you did he'd stop letting you toss his salad.

Not gay but extremely happy! Never met a Hyundai rep- never needed to. I am not a complaining- but sure hear it from you. You never changed your suspension? You blogged about "updating it" which is modification. You are correct- I have no problems with the car. The very very few that have- like I mention- smell fishy. (I know you don;t know what that smell is butt boy).
I have a lemon before- a Ford. 3X same issue- contacted FMC customer relations, field reps, attorney and 5 mo. had a new car. The threads discussed herein are not logical in approach to get resolution. You DO NOT fight with service tech or dealership. You go to area sales rep and district managers after #2 problem duplication then GO to Hyundai HQ Fountain Valley , CA. If legit, you will get resolution.

Wow. Really, wow.

I am always amused (and sometimes amazed) at the blind loyalty some consumers provide a company. We actually have an invective laced slapfest going on because a poster to this forum is offended that a dissatisfied consumer is sharing anecdotal information.

This forum is valuable as a resource for several purposes:

1. A source of information about "how to" things. The Genesis has a robust feature set, and it is much easier to search this forum than it is to search the owners manual. Want to learn to Mute with one button push? Do a search, get an answer in a few seconds.

2. To learn about systemic problems with the Genesis. They exist, and the claims by some users of this forum that the problems reported here are fabricated by representatives of competing manufacturers is laughably childish.

3. To learn about the ownership experience - how do the dealerships perform customer service, how does Hyundai America handle problem vehicles, how responsive is HMA once it is clear that a problem exists in more than an expected number of vehicles.

This forum is valuable for other purposes - but it's value for these purposes is limited to entertainment. It is fun to hang out (virtually and literally) with like minded folks. it's cool to drop in here and read about the virtues of the Genesis. It isn't nearly as valuable to either the owner or the prospective owner as getting the unvarnished truth, however.

All the cheerleading is simply background noise. If you are satisfied with your Genesis, good. Seriously. It's a significant investment, and I hope it works out well for everyone. The odds are overwhelmingly in favor of any single vehicle performing as expected. Unfortunately, it isn't a universal experience. Some of us got a lemon. We are doing this community a service by relating our experiences here.

READ THE BANNER- Hyundai doesn't care to replace LEMONS.
No manufacture cares to, but when the consumer takes appropriate steps, validate and documents the LEGITIMATE issues at hand, follows the legal guidelines of Lemon Laws- car manufacturers must replace/refund.
Again- many (not all ) posts of problems and issues don't compute.
You are right sarge- post are for informative discussions (and playful banter) on pros and cons of the vehicle. But when whining, bitching and complaining takes over then enough is enough. I have seen non- Genesis owners posting on such- then seeing those post under different automotive blogs as anti-Genesis and believe some of the post were directed to do just that.

Ok, I'm just gonna ignore "STREETS", cuz I'm starting to think he's just a child and it's actually his mommy who owns a Genesis. Can anyone show me where I posted about "updating" my suspension? They need a scratching your head emoticon for here. Car manufacturers not happily replacing lemons are different than those unwilling to without the force of law in their face. Car manufacturers dealing with an issue and advising a customer as to their options is different from another who refuses to address a customers complaints, hoping they will go away. I opened a BBB case just now, haven't gotten a case number yet, not sure they make them public record or not, but will post if I get a link or something to the record. Also sending a letter of final repair notice, so hopefully that will get them to actually address the seriousness of this problem. I will post as to Hyundai's responses to these actions, and will link to their response of BBB complaint, for those following and care about Hyundai's response. For those blindly following Hyundai and don't care.... I imagine most of you have better things to do than read this thread.... most of you, for some I guess, this forum is their life and have nothing better to do than try to shield Hyundai from complaints.

I purchased my first 2009 Genesis in October 2008.

I had the intermittent nav problems that have had many threads on this website. I really was one of the first and it was in several times to be fixed but they couldn't seem to repair it. At all times, I was given a loaner.

My husband threatened to invoke the lemon law or get an attorney. By late November 2008 I had an identical replacement 2009 Genesis. It was all accomplished in a little over a month-I was even reimbursed for some minor tag fee.

I am now driving a 2011 Genesis.

Well, hopefully the BBB will get the ball rolling in that direction.

Oh, and for those who think I'm just making up all these problems. Call Gregory Hyundai of Brunswick P: (866) 493-5674, and ask them about the Genesis that has had far too many problems. They won't need a name to know which car it is. And this is only one of the three dealers it has been to, but it has been here the most. If you don't care to call and check the facts, please don't get on here bitching about others badmouthing Hyundai and making it up. I have no reason to make any of this up. Some of the latest problems I have not taken it in for repair, but Carl Gregory Hyundai's service manager knows about them. I am waiting for Hyundai's response before attempting any more repairs.

I was hoping someone else would share their BBB experience so I wouldn’t have to be embarrassed by sharing mine. The meeting process is you have 20 minutes, Hyundai gets 20 minutes, then the arbitrator goes for a ride in the car, followed by each having 10 minutes. Hyundai is always second and you cannot interrupt. The arbitrator then provides a decision in about two weeks. Knowing this I decided that a verbal 20 minutes would not win, so I spent about $1,000 on an attorney and expenses to put together a 20 minutes video showing the voice command problems. It included things like the voice command repeating my request and not doing the request. I should note here that Hyundai has to pre-have all the information you are going to provide. I presented the video and Hyundai blamed me for all the problems. The navigation didn’t get to the destination correctly or return to the original site correctly. The arbitrator saw this and I pointed out that there were only two turn pings. I verbally reviewed and again it was my fault. I lost. Per the arbitrator, “Those problems on the DVD were satisfactorily explained by the manufacturer.”

Finally got a response from Hyundai after a month of trying. They responded to my BBB complaint and have verbally agreed to replace the car minus the usage fee, which they lowered to very reasonable amount, considering they are putting me into a 2010 from a 2009. It helped that I had video of all the problems with the car. I'm just happy I'm getting rid of this lemon and hopefully getting into a non-lemon.

Glad to hear that you finally took care of this headache.
Mine has been trouble-free for the most part except for this stupid DIS issue.
Intermittent sound issue resulted in replacing the amplifier, and that's when I couldn't get XM to work with the new amp.

Filing a complaint through BBB is the way to go IMO. Hyundai responded back within hours after the official case was open.
I brought the car in last Monday to have the engineers work the issue out, and I think we're close to fixing it.
Service manager said they got the XM radio to work, but still working on 'updating' the map(?) so that the NavTraffic works too.
A week to fix this seems a little too long, but hopefully I can get this headache out of my way.

Hope you have better luck with your '10 Genesis! :)

Dan

Hi Sarge,

I'm having significant issues with my Genesis (engine work at 8k, and now major issues with DIS). I'm approaching the required days for lemon law, and wanted to reach out to the folks you mentioned at Hyundai Corporate. Can you please email their contact info to me at sean3410@yahoo.com. I believe the folks you mentioned were Frank Ferrara and the HMA President.

Thanks,

Sean

OMG reading this post AFTER purchasing an 09 4.6 tech package with 8K miles really scares the heck out of me. The only issue I've noted in the 3 days ive owned are that the 12volt outlets do not work. Im now researching extended warranties and really feeling like an idiot for not doing more research. I also remember at the dealership when I test drove the car both TPMS sensors on the passenger side were on which I noted after the purchase they were gone which I havent seen in the 3 days of 750 miles Ive put on the car.

Could be something as simple as a blown fuse for the outlets. For the tires, could have just been low on air from sitting still for a while. All that would take is some air to fix. Even though you bought pre-owned, you should still have some type of warranty. Although I don't think it is the same as a new car warranty. Good luck!

Sean,
Sorry for the delay. I no longer own a Genesis, so i don't visit here as often. I've sent an email to the address you provided.
